Yea the hearts of thousands and tens of thousands shall greatly rejoice in consequence of the blessings which shall be poured out, and the endowment with which my servants have been endowed in this house. And the fame of this house shall spread to foreign lands; and this is the beginning of the blessings which shall be poured out upon the heads of my people. Doctrine & Covenants 110:9-10
教義と聖約110章には、大いなる回復の啓示が含まれています。救い主イエス・キリストは、救い主イエス・キリストが旧約聖書に登場する3人の預言者とともに現れ、預言者ジョセフ・スミスに重要な神権の鍵を回復されました。
Section 110 of the Doctrine and Covenants contains one of the great revelations of the Restoration. The Savior Jesus Christ, along with three Old Testament prophets, appeared and restored important priesthood keys to the Prophet Joseph Smith.
1836年3月27日、世界の歴史の中でも最も素晴らしい出来事の一つが起こりました。その日、この神権の時代における最初の神殿であるカートランド神殿が奉献されました。
On March 27, 1836, one of the greatest events in the history of this world took place. On that day, the Kirtland Temple was dedicated. It was the first temple of this dispensation.
1836年4月3日、奉献の7日後の日曜日、預言者ジョセフ・スミスとオリバー・カウドリは神殿で聖餐を受けた後、神殿の幕を下ろして祈りを捧げていました。そのとき、輝かしい示現が開かれ、救い主イエス・キリストを目にしました。
Seven days later, on Sunday, April 3, 1836, the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery were in the temple. After partaking of the sacrament, they lowered the veils of the temple and prayed. As they prayed, a glorious vision opened and they saw the Savior Jesus Christ.
救い主はカートランド神殿を受け入れ、それが聖なる場所であると告げられました。そこは救い主が主の僕たちと語ることのできる場所でした。教会員が戒めを守り、神殿を汚さないなら、大きな祝福が与えられると主は言われました。
The Savior told them that he accepted the Kirtland Temple and that it was a holy place. It was a place that the Savior could speak to his servants. He said that, if the members of the Church keep the commandments and do not pollute the temple, great blessings will come to them.
また、主は、戒めを守る教会員がエンダウメントを受け、神殿の祝福によって「幾千幾万」の人々の心が喜びに満たされると告げられました。
The Lord also said that the members of the Church who keep the commandments will receive an endowment and that the hearts of “thousands and tens of thousands” will rejoice because of the blessings that will be found in the temple.
この示現が閉じると、モーセが現れ、イスラエルの集めの鍵を回復しました。これらの鍵は偉大な伝道活動のために必要なものでした。宣教師たちは全世界に派遣され、あらゆる地、あらゆる国々でイエス・キリストの福音を宣べ伝えることになりました。
When this vision closed, Moses appeared and restored the keys of the gathering of Israel. These keys were necessary for the great missionary program. Missionaries would be sent out to the whole world, teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in every land and in every nation.
次に、エライアスが現れ、アブラハムの福音の鍵を回復しました。これらの鍵は聖徒を完全に備えるために必要なものでした。アブラハムには、その子孫によって地のすべての人が祝福されると約束されていました。
Next, Elias appeared and restored the keys of the gospel of Abraham. These keys were necessary for the perfecting of the saints. Abraham was promised that in his seed all the earth would be blessed.
最後に、預言者マラキが約束したとおり、エリヤが現れ、神権の結び固めの力の鍵を回復しました。これらの鍵は、死者の贖いの業を始めるために必要なものでした。
Finally, Elijah appeared, as promised by the prophet Malachi, and restored the keys of the sealing power of the priesthood. These keys were necessary to allow the work of the redemption of the dead to begin.
これらの鍵が、教会の三つの使命の土台となっているのは興味深いことです。教会の三つの使命とは、イスラエルを集め、聖徒を完全に備え、死者を贖うことです。（現在では、貧しい人々や助けを必要としている人々を顧みるという第四の使命が加えられています。）
It is interesting that these keys are the basis for the three-fold mission of the Church. The three-fold mission of the Church is to gather Israel, to perfect the saints, and to redeem the dead. (Today, a fourth mission, to care for the poor and the needy has been added)
カートランドにおけるこの小さな始まりから、主の業は世界のあらゆる地域に広がりました。今ではひとつの神殿にとどまらず、250以上の神殿が利用可能となり、神の聖徒たちはどこに住んでいても、永遠の祝福を受けることができるようになりました。
From this small beginning in Kirtland, the work of the Lord has expanded in all parts of the world. Not just one temple, but more than 250 temples are now available to bring the blessings of eternity to the saint of God, where ever they may live.
私たちには、できるかぎり頻繁に神殿に参入する機会と義務があります。神殿での忠実な奉仕は、私たち一人ひとりを祝福し、私たちの先祖を祝福し、そして子どもたちとその子孫をも祝福します。
We have the opportunity and the duty to attend the temple as often as we are able to. Our faithful service in the temple will bless each one of us. It will bless our ancestors. It will bless our children and our posterity.
新しい週を迎えるにあたり、カートランドに神殿を建てるために初期の聖徒たちが払った大きな犠牲を心に留めましょう。神殿での奉仕によって私たちが受ける偉大で永遠の祝福を思い起こしましょう。状況が許すかぎり、神殿に参入するためにできる限りの努力をしましょう。神殿がまさしく神の家であることを忘れないようにしましょう。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember the great sacrifices that were made by the early saint to build the temple in Kirtland. Let’s remember the great eternal blessings that we receive by our service in the temple. Let’s do all that we can to attend the temple as often as our circumstances allow. Let’s remember that the temple is truly the House of God.
