さて、わたしはあなた、すなわちわたしの僕ジョセフに命じる。悔い改めてわたしの前をさらにまっすぐに歩み、これからはもう人々の説き伏せに乗ることのないようにしなさい。また、わたしがあなたに命じた戒めを確固として守りなさい。あなたがそうするならば、見よ、たとえあなたが殺されようと、わたしはあなたに永遠の命を授ける。教義と聖約５：２１−２２
And now I command you, my servant Joseph, to repent and walk more uprightly before me, and to yield to the persuasions of men no more; and that you be firm in keeping the commandments wherewith I have commanded you; and if you do this, behold I grant unto you eternal life, even if you should be slain. D&C 5:21-22
In March of 1829, the Lord gave this scripture to the Prophet Joseph Smith. It contains an important message for us as well.
1829年3月、主が預言者ジョセフ・スミスにこの聖句を与えられました。そこには私たちにとって大切なメッセージがあります。
In this revelation from the Lord, the Lord commands Joseph to “repent and walk more uprightly before me”.
この啓示で、主はジョセフに「悔い改めてわたしの前をさらにまっすぐに歩む」よう戒められました。
Joseph was the prophet of the Lord. He was the prophet of the Restoration. He was the prophet who had seen God the Father and the Son, Jesus Christ. Yet, the Lord commanded him to repent and to do better.
ジョセフは主の預言者でした。彼は回復の預言者であり、父なる神と御子イエス・キリストに相見えました。しかしそれでも主は彼に悔い改め、さらによいことを行うよう戒められました。
If even the Prophet Joseph Smith needed to repent and to do better, each one of us certainly needs to repent and do better!
預言者ジョセフ・スミスですら悔い改め、さらに善いことを行う必要があるならば、私たちはなおさら悔い改め、さらに善いことを行う必要があります。
Like the Prophet Joseph Smith, we are all mortals. We are all what king Benjamin calls the “natural man”. We all make many mistakes. We all need to “repent and walk more uprightly”.
預言者ジョセフ・スミスのように私たちも死すべき存在です。誰もがベニヤミン王が述べている「生まれながらの人」なのです。皆、間違いを犯し、「悔い改めてさらにまっすぐに歩む」必要があります。
Joseph was told to “yield to the persuasions of men no more”. What about us? Do we “yield to the persuasions of men”? What does that mean?
ジョセフは「これからはもう人々の説き伏せに乗ることのないようにしなさい」と言われました。私たちはどうでしょう？「人々の説き伏せに乗る」ことはありませんか？それはどういった事でしょう？
When people mock us for keeping the commandments, do we yield to their persuasions? When people criticize us for standing up for the right, do we yield to their persuasions? When people laugh at us because we want to be good followers of Jesus Christ, do we yield to their persuasions?
戒めを守っているので人が私たちをあざ笑う時、人々の説き伏せに乗りますか？正しいことのために立ち上がる時、人々の説き伏せに乗りますか？イエス・キリストの良い従者になりたいと望むので人が私たちを笑う時、人々の説き伏せに乗りますか？
It is not easy to stand for the right when it is not popular. It is not easy to keep the commandments when we are criticized. It is not easy to be a follower of Jesus Christ when we are mocked. It is not easy to not “yield to the persuasions of men”. But that is the commandment that we have received from the Lord.
一般的に受け入れられていない正しいことのために立ち上がるのは簡単ではありません。批判される中で戒めを守るのは簡単ではありません。あざ笑られる中でイエス・キリストの従者になることは簡単ではありません。「人々の説き伏せに乗らないこと」は簡単ではありません。けれどもそれは私たちが主から受けている戒めなのです。
Joseph was told that he should be “firm in keeping the commandments”. Does this apply to us as well?
ジョセフは「戒めを確固として守りなさい」と言われました。それは私たちにも当てはまりますか？
Being “firm in keeping the commandments” is the opposite of yielding to the persuasions of men. Being “firm in keeping the commandments” is the goal of every true follower of Jesus Christ. Being “firm in keeping the commandments” means always staying on the covenant path.
「戒めを確固として守る」ということは、人々の説き伏せに乗ることの反対の意味です。イエス・キリストの真の従者としての目標は「戒めを確固として守る」ことなのです。「戒めを確固として守る」ことは常に誓約の道に留まっているということです。
If we “yield to the persuasions of men no more” and are “firm in keeping the commandments”, we will qualify for the same great reward that was promised to the Prophet Joseph Smith. We will qualify for the greatest blessing of all, eternal life.
「人々の説き伏せに乗ら」ず「戒めを確固として守る」ならば預言者ジョセフ・スミスに約束されたと同じ大いなる報いを受ける資格があるのです。永遠の命と言う最高の祝福を受ける資格を得るのです。
As we go through this next week, let’s be determined to “yield to the persuasions of men no more”. Let’s be “firm in keeping the commandments”. Let’s qualify ourselves for the greatest of all blessings through our faithfulness.
「人々の説き伏せに乗らない」と決意して来週を過ごしましょう。「戒めを確固として守り」ましょう。忠実なものに約束された最高の祝福のための資格を得られるようにしましょう。
