見よ、わたしは力強い祝福をもって、わたしのぶどう園で働くすべての人を祝福しよう。彼らは、わたしを通じて慰め主によって彼に与えられる言葉を信じるであろう。慰め主は、イエスが世の罪のために、すなわち、悔いる心に罪の赦しをもたらすために、罪人たちによって十字架につけられたことを明らかにする。教義と聖約　２１：９

For, behold, I will bless all those who labor in my vineyard with a mighty blessing, and they shall believe on his words, which are given him through me by the Comforter, which manifesteth that Jesus was crucified by wicked men for the sins of the world, for the remission of sins unto the contrite heart.  Doctrine & Covenants 21:9

この啓示は、1830年4月6日、教会が正式に組織された集会で、預言者ジョセフ・スミスに与えられました。この短い聖句には、三つの重要な教えが含まれています。

This revelation was given to the Prophet Joseph Smith on April 6, 1830, at the meeting where the Church was first officially organized.  There are three important doctrines taught in this short scripture.

まず第一に、主は「わたしのぶどう園で働くすべての人を祝福しよう」と言われました。ここで注目すべきなのは、指導者や宣教師、大きな犠牲を払うものだけを祝福するとは言われていないことです。主の御業を成し遂げる者すべてを祝福すると言われています。

First, the Lord tells us that he will bless “all those who labor in my vineyard”.  It does not say that the Lord will bless only those who have leadership assignments, or only those who are missionaries, or only those who make great sacrifices.  It says the Lord will bless everyone who helps accomplish the work of the Lord. 

ある召しが他の召しより重要だということもありません。すべての召しは必要なものです。すべての召しが大切であり、主のぶどう園で働く機会なのです。

No calling is more important than any other calling.  Every calling is needed. Every calling is important. Every calling is an opportunity to serve in the Lord’s vineyard.

大切なのは、どの召しを受けるかではなく、その召しをどれだけ忠実に果たすかです。どんな召しであっても最善を尽くせば、他の召しと同じ祝福を受けることができます。

What matters is not what our assignment is, but how well we serve in that assignment.  If we do our best, in whatever assignment we have been given, we will receive all the same blessings as any other assignment.

次に、主は「彼に与えられる言葉を信じる」よう戒められました。この場合、彼とは預言者ジョセフ・スミスのことを意味しています。しかし、その同じ戒めは現代の私たちにも当てはまります。私たちは主が選ばれた使徒や預言者の言葉を信じる必要があります。使徒や預言者に与えられる言葉は聖霊を通して啓示として与えられます。

Next, the Lord commands us to “believe on his words”.  In this case, that means the words of the Prophet Joseph Smith.  But the same commandment applies to us today. We are to believe on the words of the Lord’s chosen apostles and prophets.  The words that are given to the apostles and prophets come through revelation from the Holy Ghost. 

今日、私たちは使徒や預言者の言葉を聞く多くの機会があります。特に総大会では、聖霊を通して与えられた主の言葉を聞くことができます。これほど簡単に、現代の使徒や預言者を通して語られる主の言葉に触れることができる時代は、歴史上かつてありませんでした。

Today, we have many opportunities to hear the words of the apostles and prophets, words which were given to them through the power of the Holy Ghost.  Most importantly, we have the words that are given to us in General Conferences. We have the opportunity to listen to them, to read them, and to study them.  Never before in the history of the world has it been as easy to have access to the word of the Lord, as delivered by the Holy Ghost to modern day apostles and prophets.

最後に、そして最も大切なことは、これらの言葉が、イエス・キリストの福音の最も基本的な教えを伝えているということです。福音の最も根本的な教えは、イエス・キリストが十字架で亡くなられ、その偉大な贖いによって、私たちは罪の赦しを受けることができるということです。その他のすべての教義や教えは、この最も重要な真理の上に成り立っています。

Finally, and most importantly, those words teach us the most fundamental doctrine of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  The most fundamental doctrine of the gospel is that Jesus Christ died on the cross and that through his great Atonement, we can receive a remission of our sins.  Every other doctrine and teaching of the gospel is based upon this most important of all facts. 

イエス・キリストは私たちの救い主です。主は私たちの罪のために亡くなられ、三日目に復活されました。そして、主の偉大な贖いを通してのみ、私たちは希望を持つことができるのです。罪の赦しという大きな祝福は、すべての人に開かれています。そこに制限はなく、除外される人もいません。

Jesus Christ is our Savior.  He died for our sins. He rose again on the third day.  It is only through his great Atonement that we are able to have hope.  The great blessing of a remission of our sins is available to all. There are no limits.  There are no exclusions. 

唯一、贖いの力が私たちに十分に働くことを妨げるのは、私たち自身の不従順です。もし私たちが戒めを守り、心から悔い改め、へりくだる心を持つなら、この大いなる祝福を受けることができるのです。

The only thing that limits the power of the Atonement in our own lives is our own disobedience.  If we keep the commandments, if we sincerely repent, if we have a contrite heart, we will qualify for these great blessings.

新しい週が始まりますが、次のことを心に留めながら過ごしましょう。主のぶどう園で仕えることができるのは、大きな祝福です。私たちは、最も重要な働き手である必要はありません。ただ、自分の置かれた状況の中で、最善を尽くせばよいのです。また、主が選ばれた指導者を通して与えられる主の言葉を信じましょう。そして何よりも、神の御子が私たちのために払われた偉大な贖いの犠牲を忘れないようにしましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that it is a great blessing to serve in the Lord’s vineyard.  We do not have to be the most important laborer. We just need to do the best that we can in our own circumstances.  Let’s remember to believe the word of the Lord, as given to us by his chosen leaders. Most importantly, let’s remember the great Atoning sacrifice made by the Son of God on our behalf.
