この聖句は主が啓示によって預言者ジョセフスミスに与えられたものであり、通常は宣教師の働きについて話すときに引用されます。しかしこの聖句は、教会で奉仕するすべての人に当てはまります。
This verse, which was given to the Prophet Joseph Smith by the Lord in a revelation, is usually used when we talk about missionary work. However, it applies to all of us as we serve in the Church.
この聖句は非常に短く、かつ明瞭です。私たちの義務と責任、受ける報いについて教えています。
This scripture is very short and very clear. It teaches us about our duties. It teaches us about our responsibilities. It teaches us about our rewards.
では、この啓示の中でもっとも大切な言葉は何でしょうか？
What is the most important word in this revelation?
「力を尽くす」「生涯」「悔い改めを叫ぶ」「（たとえ）一人でも」「喜び」。これらはすべて大切な言葉です。
Many important words could be chosen. “Labor”, “all your days”, “crying repentance”, “one soul”, “joy”. These are all important words.
しかし、最も意義深い言葉は「ともに」かもしれません。
Perhaps the most significant word, though, is “with”.
他の言葉は、私たちがすべきことや受ける報いについて語っています。
All the other words relate to things that we need to do or that we will receive.
しかし、「ともに」という言葉は、なぜ私たちが大きな喜びを得られるのかを教えてくれます。
The word “with” is significant because it teaches us why we will have such great joy.
私たちは自分だけで喜びを感じるのではありません。また一人だけでは喜びを得ることはできません。私たちは仕えた人々と、ともに喜びを得るのです。
We will not have joy just by ourselves. We will not have joy all alone. We will have joy with all those whom we have served.
これまで私たちは、教会でさまざまな召しや責任を受けてきました。その中で多くの人と一緒に働いてきました。宣教師として人々に福音を教えたかもしれません。あるいはワードでクラスを教えたり、会員の家を訪問したりしたかもしれません。
We have all had callings and assignments in the Church. We have worked with many people in those callings and assignments. Some of those callings may have been as a missionary, teaching others about the gospel. Some of those callings may have been in a ward assignment, teaching a class or visiting members in their homes.
どのような召しであれ、最も大きな喜びを感じたのは、誰かがイエス・キリストとその福音の証を得る手助けができたときではないでしょうか。
In all these assignments, the greatest happiness we have had has been when we have been able to help someone else gain a testimony of Jesus Christ and his gospel.
時が経てば、宣教師の召しから解任されたり、ワードやステークが分割されたりして、かつて奉仕した人々と同じように関わる機会がなくなることもあります。
Over time, as we are released as a missionary, or as wards and stakes are divided, we sometimes no longer have an opportunity to serve those same people.
しかし、この聖句には偉大な約束があります。それは、「彼と共に喜ぶ」ということです。再び彼らと共に奉仕する機会が与えられ、再びその大いなる愛を感じることができるのです。
In this scripture, the great promise is that we will be able to have “joy with him”. We will be able to serve together with them again. We will be able to feel that great love again.
これこそが福音の偉大な約束です。私たちは、この人生だけでなく、永遠に大きな喜びを得る機会が与えられています。そして、それは一時的なものではなく、永遠に「ともに」喜びを分かち合うことができるのです。
This is the great promise of the gospel. We have the opportunity to have great joy, not just in this life, but for eternity. We have the opportunity to have great joy with others, not just for a short time in this life, but with them for eternity.
私は、これらのことが真実だと知っています。私たちは、この人生だけでなく、来るべき人生においても大いに祝福を受けることでしょう。この人生には困難や試練がありますが、約束された報いは計り知れないほど素晴らしいものです。
I know that these things are true. I know that we will be greatly blessed as we serve, not just in this life but in the life to come. I know that we have struggles and difficulties in this life, but the rewards that are promised to us are wonderful.
どのような召しや責任であろうとも、最善を尽くして人々に奉仕できますように。イエス・キリストを信じて前に進むことができますように。そして、「生涯を通して」忠実に奉仕するならば、大いなる祝福がもたらされることを忘れずに歩んでいけますように。
May we do our best to serve others, in whatever calling or assignment we have. May we go forward with faith in Jesus Christ. May we go forward remembering the great blessings that will come if we faithfully serve “all our days”.
