また、それらの指針の上には新しい言葉が記されて、それは読みやすく、主の道についてわたしたちに理解を与えてくれるものであった。そしてその言葉は、わたしたちが寄せる信仰と熱意に応じて、時々書き替えられた。このようにして、主は小さな手段によって大いなることを成し遂げることが分かるのである。ニーファイ第１書１６：２９
And there was also written upon them a new writing, which was plain to be read, which did give us understanding concerning the ways of the Lord; and it was written and changed from time to time, according to the faith and diligence which we gave unto it. And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things. 1 Nephi 16:29
In this short scripture, Nephi tells us how the Liahona worked. He says that there were things written on the Liahona. The things that were written taught Nephi and his family about the ways of the Lord. From time to time, new things were written.
この短い聖句でニーファイはリアホナがどのように働いたのか私たちに教えています。彼はリアホナには何かが書かれていたと述べています。その書かれた言葉は主の方法をニーファイや彼の家族に教えました。時々、そこには新しい言葉が書き替えられました。
Perhaps the most important part of Nephi’s comment is the fact that the writings on the Liahona were changed “according to the faith and diligence which we gave unto it”.
おそらくニーファイのコメント中、最も重要なことは「わたしたちが寄せる信仰と熱意に応じて」リアホナ上の言葉が書き替えられたということです。
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have our own personal Liahona? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have “a new writing, which was plain to be read”? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have instructions that were “changed from time to time”?
私たちも自分用のリアホナがあればよいと思いませんか？そしてその上には「読みやすい新しい言葉が記されて」いればよいと思いませんか？またその指示が「時々書き替えられる」ものであればよいと思いませんか？
If you were given your own Liahona, what would you do? Would you carefully study the new writings? Would you strictly follow the instructions it gave you? Would you be diligent?
もし自分用のリアホナが手に入れば何をしますか？新しく書かれる言葉を注意深く研究しますか？与えられる指示に厳格に従いますか？そして全力を尽くしますか？
In reality, we not only have our own personal “Liahona”, we have a much more powerful “Liahona” than Nephi did.
私たちには個人的な「リアホナ」だけでなく、ニーファイが持っていたものよりもっと力のある「リアホナ」があります。
Just as the Liahona was able to guide Nephi and his family through the wilderness and help them find the safest route, our own personal “Liahona” can safely guide us through our own “wilderness” of today’s wicked world.
リアホナがニーファイと家族を荒れ野で導き、安全な道を教えてくれたように私たちの持っている「リアホナ」は邪悪なこの世の「荒れ野」を安全に導いてくれるのです。
Our own personal “Liahona” can come in many different forms. Many of us have some type of smartphone or mobile device. What would Nephi have thought about something so wonderful as a smartphone?
私たち個人の「リアホナ」は色々な形でやってきます。私たちの多くはスマートフォンやモービル機器といったものを持っています。ニーファイだったらスマートフォンのような素晴らしいものについて何を思ったことでしょう？
With our smart phone, we can instantly access General Conference writings which are “plain to be read” and which will give us “understanding concerning the ways of the Lord”. We can read those words in our home, at work, at school, while traveling, or any other time. Is this not a miracle as great as Nephi’s Liahona?
スマートフォンがあれば総大会の「分かりやすく」「主の道についてわたしたちに理解を与えてくれる」お話しの記事に瞬時にアクセスすることが出来ます。家や仕事、学校、旅行中でもそれらの記事を読むことが出来ます。それはニーファイのリアホナのような大いなる奇跡ではないでしょうか？
Many of us have access to the Internet. Properly used, the Internet can also be our own personal Liahona. It can provide us with those words which are “plain to be read” and which can teach us about the ways of the Lord.
私たちの殆どはインターネットにアクセスできるでしょう。適切に利用すればインターネットは私たちの個人的なリアホナとなりえます。「読みやすく」主の道を教えてくれる言葉を私たちに提供してくれます。
We have the Church magazines, which also teach us the ways of the Lord and which bring us new words from time to time.
私たちに主の道や、時々新しい言葉を教えてくれる教会の機関誌もあります。
However, even with all these miraculous things, we still face the same challenge as Nephi and his family did with the Liahona. Having access to a Liahona is useless unless we follow the instructions we are given.
しかしそれらの奇跡的なことを持っていても、ニーファイや家族がリアホナで経験したように私たちも同じチャレンジに直面します。リアホナを持っていても与えられた指示を心にとめなければ意味がありません。
Just as Nephi and his family were sometimes lost or delayed in their journey because they failed to heed the instructions given by the Liahona, so we in our own lives will be lost or delayed in our spiritual journey if we do not use faith and diligence in heeding the instructions given by our own personal “Liahona”.
ニーファイと家族がリアホナの指示に従うことを怠ったので時々道に迷ったりその旅が遅れたりしたように
もし私たちも個人的な「リアホナ」により与えられる指示に心をとめるよう信仰や勤勉さを使わなければ、私たちも人生で道を見失ったり霊的な成長が遅れたりすることがあります。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember the example of Nephi and his family. Let’s remember to seek out writings which will give us “understanding concerning the ways of the Lord”. Let’s be diligent in following the counsel of prophets and apostles. Let’s use the “small means” the Lord has given us to help us stay of the safe path back to our heavenly home.
ニーファイや家族の模範を覚えて今週を過ごしましょう。「主の道についてわたしたちに理解を与えてくれる」言葉を探し求めることを忘れないようにしましょう。預言者や使徒の勧告に心から努力して従いましょう。天の住まいに戻るための安全な道にとどまれるれるよう主が用意してくだる「小さな手段」を使うようにしましょう。
