そしてさらにあなたがたは、神の戒めを守る者の祝福された幸福な状態についても考えてほしい。見よ、これらの者は物質的にも霊的にも、すべてのことについて祝福を受ける。そして、もし最後まで忠実であり続けるならば、彼らは天に迎えられ、決して終わりのない幸福な状態で神とともに住めるのである。おお、これらのことが真実であることを記憶にとどめ、覚えておきなさい。主なる神がこれを言われたからである。モーサヤ書２：４１
And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it. Mosiah 2:41
Do you want to be happy?
あなたは幸せでいたいですか？
Of course you do. Everyone wants to be happy. Hundreds, maybe even thousands, of self-help books have been written, claiming to know the secret of being happy. Some people seem to spend their entire life constantly searching for the happiness that always eludes them. They may try different religions, drugs, alcohol, partying, shopping, money, and many more ideas, trying desperately to find happiness.
もちろんそうでしょう。誰もが幸せでいたいはずです。何百何千という幸せになれる秘密を約束するような自己啓発本が世にはあります。生涯をかけて手に入れることの出来ない幸福を探し続けている人もいます。彼らはいろいろな宗教や薬物、お酒、パーティー、買い物、お金、他にも沢山のアイデアなど幸福を見つけるのに必死になっています。
The strange thing is, finding happiness is very easy.
不思議なことですが幸福を見つけるのは簡単なのです。
Happiness is available to everyone. It is available without any cost. No one is excluded.
幸福は誰でも手に入れることが出来ます。しかもそれは無償で、誰も除外されることはありません。
The Book of Mormon might be thought of as the ultimate “self-help” book. Contained in its inspired teachings is the simple and easy way to find happiness.
モルモン書は究極の「自己啓発」書と言ってもよいでしょう。そこに含まれる霊感に満ちた教えは幸福を見つけるための簡単で易しい方法なのです。
King Benjamin explains how to be happy in one short, simple sentence. He asks us to “consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God”. He goes on to explain that those who keep the commandments of God are “blessed in all things”.
ベニヤミン王はどうしたら幸せになれるのか短く簡潔な言葉で説明しています。彼は「神の戒めを守る者の祝福された幸福な状態についても考えてほしい」と私たちに問いかけています。彼は更に続けて、神の戒めを守る者は「すべてのことについて祝福を受ける」と説明しています。
And he is not speaking of just the temporary, short-term happiness that comes to each of us occasionally. Rather, he says that those who keep the commandments of God and endure to the end will be “in a state of never-ending happiness”.
彼は私たちも時折経験する仮の一時的な幸せのことを話しているのではありません。そうではなく、神の戒めを守り最後まで耐え忍ぶ者は「決して終わりのない幸福な状態」になると教えています。
“Never-ending happiness”! Can there be any greater blessing than that?
「決して終わりのない幸福な状態」ですよ！それ以上の幸福があるでしょうか？
And yet, it all seems too simple to most of the people in the world. They do not want to keep the commandments of God. They think that is a very strange idea. They think they can be happy by following the ways of the world.
とは言うものの、この世の殆どの人にはそれは単純すぎて信じられないと考えます。彼らは神の戒めを守るつもりもなく、おかしな考えだと思っています。彼らは世が教える方法で幸福になりたいと思っています。
But, as Alma taught his son, Corianton, “wickedness never was happiness”. Samuel, the Lamanite, taught the wicked Nephites the same principle. Samuel chastised the Nephites, saying that they had sought for that which they could not obtain. They wanted to be happy by doing iniquity.
しかしアルマは息子コリアントンに「悪事は決して幸福を生じたことがない」と教えています。レーマン人サムエルは邪悪なニーファイ人に同じ原則を教えました。サムエルはニーファイ人を叱責し、彼らは手に入らないものを探し求めていると述べています。彼らは罪悪を行うことで幸福になろうとしていたのです。
Being happy is very simple. Step 1: keep the commandments of God. Step 2: endure to the end.
幸せであることは簡単です。第一に神の戒めを守ること。第二に最後まで耐え忍ぶことです。
As we go through this next week, let’s be happy! Let’s keep the commandments of God. Let’s hold on to the iron rod. Let’s be worthy of the great blessing of happiness that is promised to those who keep the commandments.
来週も幸福で過ごしましょう。神の戒めを守りましょう。鉄の棒にしっかりつかまっていましょう。戒めを守る者に約束された幸福という素晴らしい祝福を受けるにふさわしくいましょう。
