But he that believeth these things which I have spoken, him will I visit with the manifestations of my Spirit, and he shall know and bear record.  For because of my Spirit he shall know that these things are true; for it persuadeth men to do good.  Ether 4:11

モルモン書の学習が、今、最も注目すべき珍しい歴史の一つであるヤレド人の記録に入りました。これはニーファイ人やレーマン人の記録とはまったく異なるものです。ヤレド人はリーハイとその家族より何世紀も前に生きていました。

In our study of the Book of Mormon, we now come to one of the most remarkable and unusual histories, the record of the Jaredites.  This is a completely different record than that of the Nephites and Lamanites.  The Jaredites lived many centuries before Lehi and his family.

この物語は、創世記に記されているように、主が人々の言語を乱されたバベルの塔から始まります。ヤレドの民は中央アジアの平原を通り、海を渡ってアメリカ大陸へと導かれました。

The story begins at the Tower of Babel, when the Lord confounded the language of the people, as recorded in Genesis.  The people of Jared were led across the plains of central Asia and across the ocean to the American continent.  

ジョセフ・スミスはアメリカ大陸の人々の古代史に関する記録を入手していたに違いなく、モルモン書を書くためにその記録を使ったと主張する人もいます。しかし、彼が中央アジアの古代の人々に関する記録を入手していたと主張する人はいません。

There are some people who claim that Joseph Smith must have had access to records about the ancient history of the people of the American continent and that he must have used those records to write the Book of Mormon.  However, no one makes any claim that he had access to any records of the ancient people of central Asia.

今日でも、その初期の文明についてはほとんど知られていません。しかし、科学者や研究者が中央アジアの文化を研究するにつれて、ヤレド人との類似点がどんどん発見されています。

Even today, little is known about that early civilization.  However, as scientists and researchers study the culture of central Asia, they discover more and more similarities to the Jaredite people.

エテル書は、ジョセフ・スミスが神の力と権威をもってモルモン書を翻訳したという力強い証です。預言者の時代には、ヤレド人の文化について知っている人は誰もいませんでした。彼らが残した記録から、私たちは多くの重要な教訓を学ぶことができます。

The book of Ether is a powerful witness that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon with the power and authority of God.  No one knew anything about the Jaredite culture in the days of the Prophet.  We can learn many important lessons from the records they left behind.

これらが真実であるとどうしてわかるのでしょうか。預言者ジョセフ・スミスと同様、中央アジアの古代文化について知っている人は誰もいません。アメリカ大陸に存在し、古代文明について知っている人は誰もいません。

How do we know that these things are true?  Like the Prophet Joseph Smith, none of us know about the ancient culture of central Asia.  None of us know about the ancient civilizations that existed on the American continent.

私たちが知っていることは、ジョセフ・スミスが今の時代に真理を回復するために神に召された預言者であるということです。ジョセフが神の力によってモルモン書を世に出したことも知っています。モルモン書が神の言葉であることも知っています。

What we do know is that Joseph Smith is the prophet called of God to restore truth in our day.  We know that he brought forth the Book of Mormon by the power of God.  We know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God.  

私たちはどのようにしてこれらのことを知るのでしょうか。聖霊が私たちの心にこれらのことが真実であると証してくださったからです。私たちがこれらのことが真実であると知っているのは、これらのことを研究し、深く考え，祈ったからです。これらのことを行うと、主の御霊が私たちの心に触れたのです。主の御霊は私たち一人一人にこれらのことが真実であることを明らかにしてくださいました。

How do we know those things?  We know them because the Holy Ghost has testified to our souls about the truthfulness of these things.  We know these things are true because we have studied them, pondered them, and prayed about them.  As we have done those things, the Spirit of the Lord has touched our hearts.  The Spirit of the Lord has manifested to each of us that these things are true.  

誠実に真理を求める人なら誰でも、同じ知識を得ることができます。モロナイの勧告に従うとき、私たちもモルモン書についての確固とした証を得ることができます。私たちもこれらのことが真実であることを知ることができます。私たちも主の御霊が私たちの心に触れることができるのです。

This same knowledge is available to any honest seeker of truth.  As we follow the counsel of Moroni, we too can receive a firm testimony of the Book of Mormon.  We too can know that these things are true.  We too can have the Spirit of the Lord touch our hearts.

新しい週が始まります。少し時間を取ってモルモン書の奇跡について考えてみましょう。モルモン書で教えられている教義と原則を学びましょう。この記録を現代の私たちのために書き残し、保存してくれた多くの神の預言者たちの努力と労苦を忘れないでください。ネルソン大管長の勧告に従い、毎日モルモン書を読みましょう。モルモン書は神の言葉であると聖霊から証を受けるにふさわしい者になりましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s take some time to ponder the miracle of the Book of Mormon.  Let’s study the doctrines and principles that are taught in the Book of Mormon.  Let’s remember the efforts and labors of many prophets of God, who wrote and preserved this record for us in our day.  Let’s follow the counsel of President Nelson and read from the Book of Mormon each day.  Let’s be worthy to have the Holy Ghost testify to each of us that the Book of Moron in the word of God.
