Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord; And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. 3 Nephi 25:5-6

In the last part of 3 Nephi, the Savior gives some important scriptures to the Nephites. These scriptures are ones that were given to Israel after Lehi and his family had already left Jerusalem. Many of these important scriptures are recorded in the Old Testament, in the Book of Malachi.

One of these scriptures is unique. The scripture about the coming of the prophet Elijah is the only scripture that appears in all four of the Standard Works. It is in the Bible, in Malachi. It is in the Book of Mormon, in 3 Nephi. It is in the Doctrine & Covenants, in Section 2. And it is in the Pearl of Great Price, in Joseph Smith 1:38. This must be a very important scripture.

It is very important. It teaches us about the great importance of Family History and Temple work. The whole reason for the creation of this earth was to make a place where the sons and daughters of Heavenly Father could come, be tested, and prove themselves worthy of greater blessings.
どの神権時代においても、主は民を集めて神殿の儀式について教えようとされました。以前の神権時代に神殿の儀式が人々にどのように与えられたかについては、あまり知られていません。ただ、この偉大な時満ちる神権時代に、世界中の何百万もの義にかなった人々が神殿の祝福を受けられるようになっていることは知られています。
In every dispensation, the Lord has tried to gather his people together to teach them about Temple work. We do not know much about how the ordinances of the Temple were given to people in prior dispensations. We do know that in this, the great Dispensation of the Fulness of Time, temple blessings are being made available to millions of righteous people all across the world.
死者を贖うこの偉大な業は、1836年4月3日（日）にカートランド神殿で始まりました。その日、救い主御自身が神殿で預言者ジョセフ・スミスとオリバー・カウドリの前に姿を現されました。その訪問に続いて、他の復活した何人かが訪れ、それぞれが重要な神権の鍵を回復しました。
This great work of redeeming the dead began in the Kirtland Temple on Sunday, April 3, 1836. On that day, the Savior himself appeared in the Temple to the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. That visitation was followed by several other resurrected beings, each of whom restored important priesthood keys.
鍵を回復した人の一人は預言者エリヤでした。彼は結び固めの権能の鍵、つまり永遠の家族として結び固められることを可能にする神権の鍵を回復しました。その小さな始まりから、死者を贖う業は地球全体にまで広がりました。
One of those who restored keys was the Prophet Elijah. He restored the keys of the sealing power, the priesthood key which allows us to become sealed together as eternal families. From that small beginning, the work of redeeming the dead has grown to fill the whole earth.

There is nothing more important in this life than to gather scattered Israel on both sides of the veil, President Russell M. Nelson has taught. The great importance of this work is evident from the warning in this scripture. If we are not diligent in the work of gathering and redeeming Israel, the whole earth will be smitten with a curse.
教義と聖約第128章15節で、預言者ジョセフ・スミスは「これらのことは軽々しく見過ごすことはできない」と非常に明確に告げています。この御業を前進させるためにできる限りのことをしなければ、私たち自身の救いが危険にさらされることになります。
In Section 128 of the Doctrine & Covenants, verse 15, the Prophet Joseph Smith tells us very clearly that “these things cannot be lightly passed over”. We put our own salvation at risk if we do not do all that we can to move this work forward.
新しい週が始まります。主が私たちに課せられた大きな責任、すなわち先祖を探し出し、贖う責任を忘れないようにしましょう。私たちの先祖を探し出し、先祖が永遠の命の祝福をすべて受けるために、また私たちに必要な救いの儀式を確実に受けられるように、できる限りのことをしましょう。神殿に参入することを優先し、状況が許す限り頻繁に参入しましょう。幕の両側に散らされたイスラエルを集めるのを助けるために最善を尽くしましょう。
As we go through this week, let’s remember the great responsibility the Lord has laid on us, the responsibility to search out and redeem our ancestors. Let’s do all that we can to find our own ancestors and ensure that they receive the ordinances of salvation that are necessary for them, and for us, to receive all the blessings of eternal life. Let’s make attending the Temple a priority and attend as often as our own circumstances allow. Let’s do our best to help gather scattered Israel on both sides of the veil.
