まことに、あなたがたは、これからも自分は座に着いていることができ、神の深い慈しみのおかげで何もすることなく神によって救われると考えることができるでしょうか。まことに、そのように考えているのであれば、それはむなしいことです。アルマ書６０：１１

Behold, could ye suppose that ye could sit upon your thrones, and because of the exceeding goodness of God ye could do nothing and he would deliver you?  Behold, if ye have supposed this ye have supposed in vain.  Alma 60:11

大きな問題に対して、主がすべてを解決してくださると期待して、助けを求めて祈ったことはありませんか。私たちは皆、一度や二度はこのようなことをしたことがあるでしょう。問題がすぐに、そして私たちが望むように解決されないと、がっかりします。

Have you ever prayed for help with a big problem, expecting the Lord to fix everything for you?  We have all done this at one time or another.  We are disappointed when the problem is not solved quickly and in the way we want.

これは、司令官モロナイがパホーランを非難した行為です。彼は政府が軍の支援に十分な努力をしていないと感じていたからです。彼は、国の総督であるパホーランに、成功をただ願ったり祈ったりするだけでは十分ではないことを指摘しています。問題を解決したければ、私たちも行動を起こし、最善の努力をする必要があります。

This is the type of behavior that Captain Moroni accuses Pahoran of, when Captain Moroni feels that the government is not doing enough to support his army.  Captain Moroni reminds Pahoran, who is the Chief Judge, that simply hoping or praying for success is not enough.  We need to take action and do our best effort as well, if we want to solve a problem.

私たちの人生には、困難や試練が常に起こります。困難や試練を乗り越えることで学び、成長できると分かっていても、困難や試練はなくなりません。私たちは、困難や試練を早くなくしたいと願っています。

In our own lives, challenges and trials happen all the time.  While we know that it is by going through these challenges and trials that we learn and grow, they are still.  We would like to make them go away quickly.

人生に困難や試練が訪れるとき、主の祝福に頼る必要があると教えられています。その祝福は私たちを強め、耐える助けとなります。

We are taught that when challenges and trials come into our lives, we need to depend upon the blessings of the Lord.  Those blessings will strengthen us and help us endure.

しかし、私たちは時々、困難を乗り越える上での重要な事を見落としています。確かに、私たちは主に頼る必要がありますが、私たちも自分の役割を果たす必要があります。

However, we sometimes overlook an important part of overcoming challenges.  Yes, we need to depend upon the Lord, but we also need to do our part.  

新しい仕事に就くこと、新しい街に引っ越すこと、学校に通うことなど、重要な決断を下す必要があるかもしれません。正しい決断を下すには、断食して助けを求めて祈る必要があります。

Maybe we need to make an important decision about accepting a new job, or moving to a new city, or attending a school.  We certainly need to fast and to pray for help in making a correct decision.  

しかし、私たち自身で調べ、できる限り多くの情報を集める必要があります。新しい仕事、新しい都市、新しい学校の利点や欠点は何なのか。評判は良いのか、など。また、その会社で働いている人、その都市に住んでいる人、その学校に通っている人から話を聞いてみたことがあるでしょうか。

However, we also need to do our own research and gather as much information as we can.  What are the advantages or disadvantages of the new job, or the new city, or the new school?  Do they have a good reputation?  Have we talked with others who work for that company, or who live in that city, or who attend that school?

あなたは、助けを求めて祈っている医療上の問題を抱えていませんか? 適切な医療専門家に相談していますか? 彼らの勧めに従っていますか? それとも、インターネットで「秘密の」治療法を探しているだけでしょうか?

Do we have a medical challenge that we are praying for help with?  Are we consulting the appropriate medical professionals?  Are we following their recommendations?  Or are we just searching the Internet for “secret” cures?

あなたは、同級生や隣人、職場の人、あるいは家族内の人と、個人的な対立がありませんか。その関係を改善するために、私たちは何をしているでしょうか？対立や傷ついた感情を解決しようと誠実に努力しているでしょうか？

Do we have a personal conflict with a schoolmate, a neighbor, someone at our work, or even someone within our own family?  What are we doing to improve the relationship?  Are we making an honest effort to resolve the conflict or hurt feelings?  

このような疑問や課題に対する答えを求めて祈るとき、主は私たちを導き、指示してくださいますが、適切な行動を取る責任は依然として私たちにあります。私たちが何もせずにただ座って、主が問題を解決してくださるのを待つのは良い計画とは言えません。

As we pray for answers to questions and challenges like these, the Lord will guide and direct us, but the burden is still on us to take appropriate action.  Just sitting back and waiting for the Lord to solve the problem for us without our doing anything is not a good plan.  

新しい週が始まります。自分の生活を振り返って、もっと努力して解決する必要がある課題や試練、問題があるかどうか考えてみましょう。ただ願うだけでは問題は解決しないという司令官モロナイの勧告を忘れないようにしましょう。勇気を持って前進し、適切な行動を取り、直面するどんな問題でも解決するために最善を尽くしましょう。導きと助けを求めて信仰をもって祈り、促されたことを実行しましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s examine our own lives and see if there are challenges, trials, or problems that we need to put more effort into solving.  Let’s remember the counsel from Captain Moroni that doing nothing but wishing is not going to solve any problems.  Let’s have the courage to go forward, take appropriate action, and do our best to resolve whatever issue we are faced with.  Let’s pray with faith for guidance and help, then do the things that we are prompted to do.
