But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage. Mosiah 7:33

Our reading assignments now take us to the account of Zeniff, his son Noah, and his grandson Limhi. Zeniff was a righteous man and walked in the ways of the Lord. Sadly, his son Noah was not a righteous man. Noah was very wicked. The Lord sent the prophet Abinadi to warn Noah of his wickedness and to tell him to repent.

Noah did not repent and condemned Abinadi to death. Because of this great wickedness, the Lord punished Noah and his people. They were taken captive by the Lamanites and were made to pay a terrible price for their wickedness.

Zeniff’s grandson, Limhi, was also righteous man. He tried to teach his people good things. They tried to escape from the Lamanites, but were defeated in battle several times. The people realized that there was no way that they could defeat the Lamanites.

At this point in the story, Ammon and a group of Nephites come and meet Limhi. Limhi is glad to see them and hopes that they will be able to help his people escape from the Lamanites. Limhi teaches his people many important truths and urges them to repent and have faith in God.

In this verse, Limhi teaches his people several lessons and urges them to repent. He teaches them that they must “turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart”. This means that they need to sincerely focus on the Lord, not just with words, but with actions. The people are to put their trust in the Lord. They have tried to escape from the Lamanites many times and know that it is impossible to do by themselves. They need to trust in the Lord and in his help.
最後に、リムハイは彼らに「心を尽くして」主に仕えなければならないと教えています。繰り返しますが、これは行動を起こすよう求める呼びかけです。主に仕えたいと言うだけでは十分ではありません。主に仕えるために何かをしなければなりません。それには行動、努力、勤勉さが必要なのです。
Finally, Limhi teaches them that they must serve the Lord “with all diligence of mind”. Again, this is a call to take action. Merely saying that they want to serve the Lord is not enough. They must do something to serve the Lord. It requires action, effort, and hard work.

Limhi promises them that if they do all those things, the Lord will deliver them out of bondage when the time is right. Luckily, the people did repent. They did turn to the Lord. They did put their trust in him. They did serve the Lord diligently.

Thus, when the time was right, the Lord did deliver them out of bondage. They were able to escape from the Lamanites and return to the Nephites.

Are we in spiritual bondage? Do we need to Lord’s help to escape from sin, transgression, or evil things? We may not be in bondage to the Lamanites, the way the people of Limhi were, but are we in bondage to sin?
リムハイの人々と同じように、私たちも束縛、試練、痛みから解放されます。私たちが逃れるのに必要な手順は、リムハイの人々が逃れるのに必要だった手順と同じです。私たちは主に立ち返り、主に信頼し、熱心に仕える必要があります。
Just like the people of Limhi, we too can be delivered from bondage, from trials, and from pain. The steps needed for us to escape are the same as the steps needed for the people of Limhi to escape. We need to turn to the Lord, put our trust in him, and serve him diligently.
リムハイの人々と同じように、これらの小さく簡単なことを実行すれば、私たちも罪と痛みから解放されるでしょう。この解放はすぐには実現しないかもしれません。私たちは解放されると約束されているだけです。それは「主の意のまま、思いのままに」起こるでしょう。私たちは忍耐を持ち、熱心に奉仕し、その時が来たら救い出してくださる主を信頼する必要があります。
If we do these small and simple things, just like the people of Limhi, we too will be delivered from sin and pain. This deliverance may not come quickly. We are only promised that we will be delivered. It will happen “according to his own will and pleasure”. We need to have patience, serve diligently, and trust in the Lord to deliver us when the time is right.
その約束は確かです。あきらめないでください。聖約の道にしっかりとどまり進み続けてください。救い（解放）は必ず来ます。
The promise is sure. Do not give up. Keep going, with your feet firmly on the covenant path. Deliverance will come.
新しい週が始まります。私たちが何に束縛されているのかを考えてみましょう。私たちが必要な祝福を受けることを妨げているものは何でしょうか? リムハイが人々に教えたことを思い出してみましょう。これらの真実は彼らにとって役に立ちましたし、私たちにとっても役立つでしょう。主に立ち返り、主に信頼し、熱心に仕えましょう。これらのことを行うなら、約束されているすべての祝福を受けることができます。
As we go through this next week, let’s think about what things we are in bondage to. What things are keeping us from receiving the blessings that we need? Let’s remember what Limhi taught his people. Those truths worked for them and they will work for us. Let’s turn to the Lord, put our trust in him, and serve with diligence. If we do these things, we will receive all the blessings that have been promised.
