おお、わたしの愛する同胞よ、悔い改めなさい。そして、狭い門から入り、永遠の命を得るまで細い道を歩み続けなさい。ヤコブ書６：１１
O then, my beloved brethren, repent ye, and enter in at the strait gate, and continue in the way which is narrow, until ye shall obtain eternal life. Jacob 6:11
この聖句でヤコブは、私たちが永遠の幸福を享受するために必要なことを、短い言葉で教えています。
In this scripture, Jacob teaches us in just a few simple words, what we need to do to enjoy eternal happiness.
イエス・キリストの福音は、難解ではありません。幸福の大いなる計画は、すべてが理解しやすいものです。小学生の子どもにも理解できるほど簡単です。
Nothing about the gospel of Jesus Christ is complicated. Everything about the great Plan of Happiness is easy to understand. It is simple enough for young children in Primary to understand.
永遠の幸福のために必要なステップは、誰にとっても同じです。誰も永遠の命を得ることを禁じられてはいません。誰一人として、余分なタスクをこなす必要はありません。特別なスキルやお金、名声を持っている必要もありません。
The steps required for eternal happiness are the same for everyone. No one is prohibited from obtaining eternal life. No one has any extra tasks they need to complete. No one has to have any special skills, or money, or fame.
まず最初のステップは、私たちの救い主イエス・キリストを信じることです。信仰がなければ、私たちは進歩しようという気持ちになりません。信仰があれば、私たちはより良くなりたいと思うでしょう。信仰があれば、私たちはイエス・キリストに従いたいと思うでしょう。信仰があれば、私たちは主のようになりたいと思うでしょう。
The very first step is to have faith in our Savior Jesus Christ. Without faith, we would not even try to progress. If we have faith, we will want to become better. If we have faith, we will want to follow Jesus Christ. If we have faith, we will want to be like him.
信仰を持てば、自分の罪を悔い改めたくなります。私たちは誰でも罪を犯したことがあります。しかし、イエス・キリストを信じる信仰があれば、そしてイエス・キリストの偉大な贖罪のおかげで、私たちは悔い改めて再び清くなることができるのです。
Once we have faith, we will want to repent of our sins. We have all committed sins. But with faith in Jesus Christ, and because of his great Atonement, we can repent and become clean again.
悔い改めると、私たちは「狭き門から入る」にふさわしい者となります。私たちは神権を持つ者からバプテスマを受けることによってこれを行います。まっすぐで狭い道を歩む旅の始まりです。
Having repented, we become worthy to “enter in at the straight gate”. We do this by being baptized by someone holding the priesthood. This is the beginning of our journey on the straight and narrow path.
次に、ヤコブが教えているように、私たちは聖約の道を歩み続ける必要があります。これは、聖霊の賜物を受けることを意味します。聖霊は、私たちが聖約の道を歩み続けるのを助けてくださいます。
Next, as Jacob teaches us, we need to continue in the covenant path. This means that we receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost will then help us stay on the covenant path.
私たちは神殿の祝福と儀式を受けながら、聖約の道を歩み続けます。神殿の儀式は、私たちがこの世で受けることができる最高の祝福です。それらは、この世と来世で私たちを助ける祝福です。
We continue on the covenant path as we move forward and receive the blessings and ordinances of the temple. The ordinances of the temple are the crowning blessings that we can receive in this life. They are blessings that will help us in this life and in the life to come.
私たちは天父と交わした聖約に忠実であれば、忠実な者に約束されているすべての祝福を受けることができます。すぐに訪れる祝福もあれば、後で訪れる祝福もあれば、この世が終わるまで訪れない祝福もあるでしょう。しかし、それらは皆、主のしかるべき時に来るでしょう。
As we are true and faithful to the covenants that we have made with Heavenly Father, we will receive all the blessings that have been promised to the faithful. Some blessings may come soon, some may come later, and some may not come until after this life. But they will all come in the due time of the Lord.
私たちが交わす聖約は、私たちが聖約の道をしっかりと歩む助けとなります。私たちが聖約を守り、戒めを守るとき、聖霊はわたしたちを導き、まっすぐで狭い道を歩むことができるように助けてくださいます。
The covenants we make will help us stay firmly on the covenant path. As we honor our covenants and keep the commandments, the Holy Ghost will be able to guide us and help us to stay on the straight and narrow path.
ヤコブが説明しているように、その道は私たちを永遠の命に導くものです。聖約の道は、私たちを天の家、天の両親のもとに導き、両親や自分の家族とともに永遠に喜びをもたらす場所へと導きます。
That path, as Jacob explains, will lead us to eternal life. The covenant path leads us directly back to our heavenly home, back to our Heavenly Parents, back to joy with them and with our own families forever.
新しい週が始まります。ヤコブが私たちに教えてくれたことについて深く考えてみましょう。福音の小さくて簡単なことが、私たちを天の家へと導いてくれることを忘れないようにしましょう。聖約を受けて守る人たちに大きな祝福が待っていることを心に留め、永遠の幸福につながる聖約の道をしっかりと歩み続けましょう。
As we go through this next week, let’s ponder on the things that Jacob has taught us. Let’s remember that it is the small and simple things of the gospel that will lead us back to our heavenly home. Let’s remember the great blessings that are in store for those who receive and keep covenants. Let’s stay firmly on the covenant path that leads to eternal happiness.
