Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word?  Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another?  Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another.  And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.  2 Nephi 29:8

ニーファイは現代にモルモン書が現れることを正確に預言しました。彼は多くの人々がモルモン書を神の言葉であることを拒むと予見していました。信じない者がモルモン書に反対する論拠の一つは、聖書がすでに存在するからということです。聖書以外に神聖な書物は存在しないと主張するのです。

Nephi accurately prophesied about the coming forth of the Book of Mormon in our day.  He foresaw that many people would refuse to consider the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.  One argument non-believers use against the Book of Mormon is that there already is a Bible.  They claim that there cannot be more sacred writings.  

29 章 3 節でニーファイはこの誤った考えを次のように予告しています。「聖書か、聖書か。我々はすでに聖書を持っている。これ以外に聖書があるはずがない。」 この議論はサタンの策略です。古代イスラエル人は、自分たちが持っていた聖典が完全で完成されたものだとは考えていませんでした。世代が代わるごとに、すでに持っていた聖典にさらに多くの情報、歴史、預言が追加されていきました。

In verse 3 of Chapter 29, Nephi foretells this mistaken idea, “A Bible!  A Bible!  We have got a Bible and there cannot be any more Bible”.  This argument is a trick of Satan.  The ancient Israelites never considered that the scriptures they had were complete and finished.  In each generation, more information, more history, and more prophecies were added to the scriptures that they already had.

新約聖書時代の著者は、聖書が完成したとは考えていませんでした。聖書は使徒たちの死後、数百年経つまで存在すらしませんでした。使徒たちは人々に教え、その教えの多くが書き留められました。それらの文書は、私たちの時代の総大会の話によく似ていました。

The New Testament-era writers certainly did not consider the Bible to be finished. The Bible did not even exist until hundreds of years after the death of the Apostles.  Each of the Apostles taught the people, and many of the teachings were written down.  Those writings were much like the General Conference talks of our time.

今日私たちが知っている聖書が初めてまとめられたのは、西暦 320 年になってからでした。実際、「聖書」という言葉は（英語では）単に「著作集」を意味します。その年、カトリック教会となる組織の指導者たちが集まり、入手可能な多くの文書のうちどれを「公式」と見なすべきかを決定しました。

It was not until 320 AD that the Bible, as we know it today, was first assembled.  In fact, the word “Bible” simply means “a library” or “a collection of writings”.  In that year, the men who were leaders of the organization that became the Catholic Church, met to decide which of all the many writings that were still available should be considered “official”.  

イエス・キリストの青年時代と教導の業について、誤った愚かな著書がたくさんありました。それらの手紙は却下されました。使徒たちから教会員に宛てられた本物の手紙の中にも、彼らが理解できない事柄が多く含まれていました。残念なことに、それらの手紙も却下されました。ニーファイは約千年前に、「分かりやすくて尊い部分」が聖典から取り除かれることを啓示で見ていました。

There were many spurious and silly writings about the youth and ministry of Jesus Christ.  Those letters were rejected.  There were also a number of authentic letters from the Apostles to the members of the Church that contained things those men did not understand.  Sadly, those letters too were rejected.  Nephi had seen in vision nearly 1,000 years before that “many plain and precious things” would be taken out of the scriptures.

モルモン書は、何世紀にもわたって伝統的なキリスト教によって教えられてきた信念と教義を見直すよう人々を促しています。モルモン書を神のみ言葉として受け入れるなら、多くの伝統的な考えを脇に置く必要があります。

The Book of Mormon forces people to re-examine beliefs and doctrines that have been taught by traditional Christianity for centuries.  If someone accepts the Book of Mormon as the word of God, many traditional ideas have to be set aside.  

モルモン書が真実であれば、神は実際にユダヤ人以外の国々に語られたことになります。モルモン書が真実であれば、イエス・キリストが私たちの救い主であり贖い主であるという知識は古くから知られていたことになります。モルモン書が真実であれば、キリスト教は救い主のこの世での教導の業から始まったわけではないことになります。モルモン書が真実であれば、天は再び開かれていることになります。モルモン書が真実であれば、ジョセフ・スミスは神の預言者ということになります。

If the Book of Mormon is true, then God really did speak to other nations besides the Jews.  If the Book of Mormon is true, then the knowledge that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer was known anciently.  If the Book of Mormon is true, then Christianity did not begin with the mortal ministry of the Savior.  If the Book of Mormon is true, then the Heavens are open again.  If the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith is a prophet of God.

私はモルモン書が真実であり、神のみ言葉であることを証します。ジョセフ・スミスは神の預言者であり、イエス・キリストの福音を末日に地上に回復するために選ばれた者だと証します。

I testify that the Book of Mormon is true and is the word of God.  I testify that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God and was chosen to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth for the final time.

今年、モルモン書を学ぶにあたり、モルモン書が私たちにもたらす更なる知識と解き明かしについて考えてみましょう。モルモン書と聖書は、イエスがキリストであることを共に証するものであることを覚えていましょう。天父はすべての子供たちを平等に愛し、耳を傾けるすべての人に語りかけられることを忘れないようにしましょう。回復は現在も進行中であり、さらに多くの重要で素晴らしいことが起こることを覚えていましょう。イエス・キリストの福音の回復においてモルモン書が果たす重要な役割を忘れないようにしましょう。

As we study the Book of Mormon this year, let’s consider the additional knowledge and clarification that the Book of Mormon brings to us.  Let’s remember that the Book of Mormon and the Bible stand together, side by side, as witnesses that Jesus is the Christ.  Let’s remember that Heavenly Father loves all his children equally and speaks to all that will listen.  Let’s remember that the Restoration is an on-going process and that many more important and wonderful things will happen.  Let’s remember the central role that the Book of Mormon has in the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
