また主は、「仕事に取りかかり、あなたがたが前に造った船に倣って船を造りなさい」と言われた。そこで、ヤレドの兄弟と彼らの同行者たちは仕事に取りかかり、主の指示のとおりに、彼らがかつて造った方法で数隻の船を造った。エテル書２：１６
And the Lord said: Go to work and build, after the manner of barges which ye have hitherto built. And it came to pass that the brother of Jared did go to work, and also his brethren, and built barges after the manner which they had built, according to the instructions of the Lord.

This scripture from the Jaredite record tells about an event that has an interesting parallel in the Nephite record. Roughly 1,500 years before Nephi was instructed to build a ship to carry his family across the ocean, the brother of Jared was given a similar assignment.
ヤレドの記録にあるこの聖句はニーファイの記録に相似した興味深い出来事について記しています。ニーファイが家族を載せて海を渡る船を造るよう指示を受ける約1500年前にヤレドの兄弟が似たアサイメントを受けたのです。
It is interesting to compare the two events.
この二つの出来事を比べてみるのは面白いでしょう。
In both cases, a group of righteous people was told to leave their homes and to go out into the wilderness.
どちらの場合も正しい人々は家を離れ荒れ野に出立するよう言われました。
In both cases, they wandered for many years in the wilderness.
どちらの場合も人々は荒れ野で何年も過ごすことになりました。
In both cases, they eventually came to the ocean.
どちらの場合も彼らは最終的に海にやってきました。
In both cases, they had no way to cross the ocean with their own skill and resources.
どちらの場合も彼らは自分の技量や持っているもので海を渡るすべがありませんでした。
In both cases, they were commanded by the Lord to build a ship to transport the people across the ocean.
どちらの場合も彼らは海を渡る船を造るよう主から戒めを受けました。
In both cases, they obeyed the commandment of the Lord without knowing all the details about what would happen to them.
どちらの場合も何が起こるか確かな知識がないまま彼らは主の戒めに従いました。
Nephi was instructed to build a ship. He did not know how to build a ship, but had faith that the Lord would instruct him. He did not question the commandment. He simply asked the Lord where he should go to get ore so he could make tools.
ニーファイは船を造るよう指示を受けました。彼は建造法など知りませんでした。けれど主が教えて下さるという信仰はありました。彼はその戒めに疑いを持ちませんでした。ただ工具を作るための鉱石をどこに行けば入手できるのか主に尋ねました。
The brother of Jared was instructed to build barges, similar to those that they had already built. The people were apparently familiar with the process and proceeded to build the barges.
ヤレドの兄弟は以前に作ったと同じような船を造るよう指示を受けました。人々はおそらくその行程には精通しておりすぐに船の建造へと移ったのでしょう。
The most important point in these examples is that both Nephi and the brother of Jared accepted the commandment of the Lord without arguing or complaining. Even though it must have seemed like a very difficult task, they went forward with faith, trusting in the Lord.
この二つ例で最も大切な点はニーファイとヤレドの兄弟は主の戒めに抗議もせず文句も言わず受け入れたことです。それが非常に難しそうに思える作業であっても彼らは主に信仰と信頼を持って前進したのです。
In both cases, the Lord could have miraculously created the ship or the barges for the people without them doing any work.
どちらの場合も彼らが何もすることなく主が奇跡を持って彼らのために船を作ってしまうこともできたでしょう。
But instead, the Lord said, “Go to work”. Both Nephi and the brother of Jared had to work hard to accomplish what the Lord had required of them.
しかし主はそうする代わりに「仕事に取りかかり」なさいと言われました。ニーファイとヤレドの兄弟は主が要求されたことを達成するために熱心に働かねばなりませんでした。
In both cases, they went to work “according to the instructions of the Lord”.
どちらの場合も彼らは「主の指示のとおりに」行って働いたのです。
As we go through this next week, may we remember the examples of Nephi and of the brother of Jared. Let’s go forward with faith when we are given new and sometimes difficult tasks by the Lord. Let’s be willing to do whatever we are assigned, “according to the instructions of the Lord”.
ニーファイとヤレドの兄弟の模範を忘れず今週を過ごしましょう。主から新しかったり難しそうに思える課題が与えられる時、信仰を持って前進しましょう。アサイメントが何であれ「主の指示に従い」喜んで行いましょう。
