And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of water.  Revelation 14:6-7

In the Book of Revelation, the Apostle John writes about things that will happen at the end of the world.  Many of the things that he wrote are very difficult for us to understand.  Just as Nephi prophesied, many “plain and precious things” were lost from the writings of John by translators and others who did not understand the gospel and who took out or changed things they did not like.

ニーファイもこれと同じものを見せられ、使徒ヨハネがそのすべてを書き記す使命を受けたと告げられました。ニーファイも同じ示現を見ましたが、自分の記録には書くべきではないと告げられました（1ニーファイ14章）。

Nephi was shown these same things, but was told that the Apostle John had the assignment to write them all.  Nephi was told that he would be shown the same vision, but that he should not write it in his record (1 Nephi 14). 

今日まで残っている古代の使徒たちが書き残した手紙の多くは、パウロをはじめとする使徒たちが、来るべき背教について教会員に警告しています。使徒たちの書簡から明らかなように、彼らは教会がその時代に長く存続することはないと理解していました。

In many of the letters of the ancient apostles that have survived and come down to us today, Paul and the other apostles warn the members of the Church about the coming apostasy.  It is clear from the writings of these apostles that they understood that the Church would not survive very long in their day.

ヨハネは、もっと霊を鼓舞させるメッセージをその中に残しました。彼は、末日の福音の回復を示現で見たことについて書き残しています。

John includes in his writing a more uplifting message.  He writes about the things which he saw in vision about the restoration of the gospel in the last days.

この聖句でモロナイの使命に言及し、ヨハネが現代における福音の回復を予告していることが述べられています。

In this scripture, we are told refers to the mission of Moroni, John foretells the restoration of the gospel in our day.  

ヨハネの預言通り、モロナイに与えられた使命は、幼いジョセフ・スミスを訪ねることでした。モロナイはジョセフに、モロナイの父モルモンが書いた記録について教えることになっていました。モロナイはまた，モルモン書が世に出るときに果たすべき重要な役割についてもジョセフに教えることになっていました。

As John prophesied, Moroni’s assignment was to visit the young boy Joseph Smith.   He was to teach Joseph about the record Mormon, Moroni’s father, had written.  He was also to teach Joseph about the important role he was to play in the coming forth of the Book of Mormon.  

数年にわたり、モロナイは何度もジョセフを訪ね、ジョセフが販を受け取る備えをし、主が彼に望んでおられることを理解できるように努めました。

Over the course of several years, Moroni visited Joseph many times and worked to help Joseph prepare to receive the plates and to understand what the Lord wanted him to do.  

モルモン書には神の言葉が含まれています。純粋な教義が含まれています。それは、宣教師が「あらゆる国民、あらゆる部族、あらゆる国語、あらゆる国民に」福音のメッセージを伝えることを可能にしています。

The Book of Mormon contains the word of God.  It contains pure doctrine.  It allows missionaries to take the message of the gospel “to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people”.

私たちの義務とは何でしょうか。私たちの義務は、モルモン書を祈りながら読み、そこに書かれている真理について熟考することです。

What is our duty?  Our duty is to prayerfully read the Book of Mormon and to ponder over the truths that are contained in it.

When did you last read the Book of Mormon completely?  President Russell M. Nelson and other members of the First Presidency and members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles have often encouraged us to read from the Book of Mormon every day.

毎日どれだけ読むかは問題ではありません。重要なのは、預言者の勧告に従うことによって得られる霊的な導きを受けることです。モルモン書を学び続けることによって、聖霊はわたしたちの人生の旅路を教え導いてくださるようになります。

It doesn’t matter how much we read each day.  What matters is that we receive the spiritual guidance that comes from following the counsel of the prophet.  As we continue to study the Book of Mormon, the Holy Ghost is better able to teach us and guide us in our journey through life.

新しい週が始まります。モルモン書の研究にもっと努めましょう。ニーファイ人の預言者たちのメッセージから学ぶようもっと努力しましょう。モルモン書を私たちの福音研究の「礎石」にしましょう。ヨハネの預言、モロナイの使命、預言者ジョセフ・スミスがこの最後の神権時代にモルモン書をもたらしたことを心に留めて今週も過ごしましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s be more diligent in our study of the Book of Mormon.  Let’s do better to learn from the messages of the Nephite prophets.  Let’s make the Book of Mormon the “cornerstone” of our gospel study.  Let’s remember the prophesies of John, the mission of Moroni, and the work of the Prophet Joseph Smith in bringing the Book of Mormon to us in this the final dispensation.
