さて、信仰とは、望んでいる事がらを確信し、まだ見ていない事実を確認することである。ヘブル人への手紙１１：１

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the assurance of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1

ヘブル人への手紙の後半で、パウロは力強い教えをいくつか説いています。

In the second half of Hebrews, Paul teaches a several powerful doctrines.  

例えば、7章、8章、9章で、パウロはいと高きメルキゼデク神権の権能について教えています。イエス・キリストは大いなる大祭司であり、その神権を永遠に保持しておられると説明しています。メルキゼデク神権は「生涯の初めもなく、生命の終わりもない」言い換えれば、メルキゼデク神権の力と権能は永遠と言うことです。

In chapters 7, 8, and 9, for example, Paul teaches us about the authority of the higher Melchizedek Priesthood.  He explains that Jesus Christ is the Great High Priest and the he holds that priesthood forever.  The Melchizedek Priesthood is “without beginning of days or end of years”.  In other words, the power and authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood is eternal.

パウロがこの教義を説いた理由のひとつは、ユダヤ人改宗者の多くがまだモーセの律法の儀式に従っていたからです。パウロは彼らに、モーセの律法はイエス・キリストの贖いによって成就したと教えています。もはやモーセの律法の儀式を続けることは必要ではなく、適切でもないのです。

Part of Paul’s reason for teaching this doctrine was that many of the Jewish converts were still following the rituals of the Law of Moses.  Paul teaches them that the Law of Moses was fulfilled by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  It was no longer necessary, or even appropriate, to continue the rituals of the Law of Moses.

パウロは教義と聖約にあるような言葉で神権の誓詞と聖約について教えています。パウロは、大いなる大祭司である救い主がユダの血統であったことを指摘しています。アロン神権に焦点を当てたモーセの律法には、ユダ族が神権を持つことについては何も書かれていませんでした。

In words much like we find in the Doctrine & Covenants, Paul teaches us about the oath and covenant of the Priesthood.  Paul points out that our Savior, the Great High Priest, was of the linage of Judah.  The Law of Moses, with its focus on the Aaronic Priesthood, did not say anything about the tribe of Judah having the priesthood.  

手紙の後半で、パウロは信仰について素晴らしい教えを説いています。彼の信仰に関するメッセージは、アルマ、モルモン、モロナイと同様、信仰の意味と力を私たちに説明しています。

In the latter part of his letter, Paul teaches a great sermon about faith.  His message about faith, similar to that of Alma, Mormon, and Moroni, explain to us the meaning of and the power of faith.  

パウロは聖書から信仰の模範をいくつか紹介しています。パウロは、神の言葉によって世界が創造されたのは信仰によるのだと語っています。パウロは、アベル、エノク、ノア、アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブなど、信仰によって偉大なことを成し遂げることができた多くの人々の模範を挙げています。

Paul presents a number of examples of faith from the scriptures.  He tells us that it was through faith that the worlds were created by the word of God.  He cites examples of Abel, of Enoch, of Noah, of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and many others who through faith were able to accomplish mighty things.

アルマと同じように、パウロも信仰とは確かな知識を持つことではないと説明しています。そうではなく信仰とは、教えられてはいても、まだ完全には理解していない真理に基づいたことなのです。アルマが教えているように、私たちが信仰を持つためには、それは真理に基づいていなければなりません。

Like Alma, Paul explains that faith is not to have a sure knowledge of something.  Rather, faith is based on truths that we are taught but do not yet fully understand.  For us to have faith, as Alma teaches, it must be based on truth.

パウロもまた、「信仰がなくては、神に喜ばれることはできない」と警告しています。信仰は福音の第一原則です。

Paul also cautions us that “without faith it is impossible to please him”.  Faith is the first principle of the gospel.  

私たちは、天父とその御子イエス・キリストを信じることによって信仰を育みます。私たちは、預言者や使徒の言葉に耳を傾けることによって信仰を育みます。私たちは、祈りによって信仰を育みます。そして、戒めを守り、求められることをすべて行うことによって、信仰を育むのです。

We develop faith be believing in Heavenly Father and in his Son, Jesus Christ.  We develop faith be listening to the words of prophets and apostles.  We develop faith by prayer.  And, we develop faith by keeping the commandments and doing all that we are asked to do.

信仰には山を動かす力もあります。信仰はまた、日々の小さな試練において私たちを助ける力も持っています。信仰には、主の業に必要なすべてのことを成し遂げる力があります。

Faith has the power to move mountains.  Faith also has the power to help us in our own small daily trials.  Faith has the power to accomplish all that the work of the Lord needs.

ニーファイは偉大な信仰のよく知られた模範です。彼は非常に困難な責任を与えられました。彼と兄弟たちは最善を尽くしたにもかかわらず、失敗しました。ニーファイはあきらめることなく、自分が何をすべきか分かりませんでしたが、信仰をもって前進しました。主への信仰を行使することによって、ニーファイは与えられた責任を成し遂げることができたのです。

One great and well-known example of faith is Nephi.  He was given a very difficult assignment.  He and his brothers had done their best but had failed.  Rather than giving up, Nephi went forward with faith, “not knowing beforehand” what he was going to do.  By exercising his faith in the Lord, Nephi was able to accomplish the task that he had been given.

ですから、私たちも日々の務めにおいて、信仰を持って前進すれば、必要なことはすべて成し遂げることができます。どのように問題を解決したらよいか分からないのは、とても怖いことかもしれない。しかし、他の人たちの経験から信仰の力の模範を思い出すとき、私たちもまた、すべてのことができると確信することができます。

So we too, in our daily assignments, can accomplish all that is needed if we go forward with faith.  It can be very scary to “not know beforehand” how we are going to solve a problem.  However, as we remember the examples of the power of faith from the experiences of others, we can be confident that we too can do all things.

今週、信仰について学ぶ時間を取ってみましょう。聖書，モルモン書，教義と聖約の中にある信仰について教えている聖句を読む時間を持ち、救い主に対する信仰を強めるために最善を尽くしましょう。信仰によって、困難なことや難しいと思われることを成し遂げることができることを覚えておきましょう。

As we go through this week, let’s take some time to study about faith.  Let’s spend some time reading the scriptures in the Bible, in the Book Mormon, and in the Doctrine & Covenants that teach us about faith.  Let’s do our best to strengthen our faith in our Savior.  Let’s remember that through faith, we can accomplish difficult and seemingly difficult tasks.
