さて兄弟たちよ。わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの来臨と、わたしたちがみもとに集められることとについて、あなたがたにお願いすることがある。霊により、あるいは言葉により、あるいはわたしたちから出たという手紙によって、主の日はすでにきたとふれまわる者があっても、すぐさま心を動かされたり、あわてたりしてはいけない。だれがどんな事をしても、それにだまされてはならない。まず背教のことが起こり、不法の者、すなわち、滅びの子が現れるにちがいない。

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and by our gathering together unto him that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, except ye receive it from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.  Let no man deceive you by any means, for that day shall not come except there shall come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.  2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 (JST)

この節で、使徒パウロは将来起こる背教について明確に教えています。これは彼にとってとても悲しいことだったに違いありません。彼は人々に福音を教えるために熱心に働いていました。しかし彼は、やがて神権の鍵が失われ、福音が地上から奪われることを知っていたのです。

In these verses, the Apostle Paul teaches very clearly about the coming apostasy.  This must have been a very sad thing for him to teach.  He labored diligently to teach people the gospel.  But he knew that before long the priesthood keys would be lost and the gospel would be taken from the earth.

彼は、来るべき試練に備えて教会員を準備させようとしました。この節では、パウロは人々を慰めようとしています。主はすべてのことを知っておられ、来るべき背教は計画の一部であることを理解してほしいとパウロは願っていました。将来の出来事にショックを受けたり、驚いたりすることがないように、そうなる前にこのことを伝えたのです。

He tried to prepare the members of the Church for the trials that were coming.  In these verses, he tries to comfort the people.  Paul wants them to understand that the Lord knows all things and that the coming apostasy is part of the plan.  He tells them about this before it happens so they will not be shocked or surprised by future events.

この節から私たちは重要な教えをいくつか学べます。

There are several important lessons for us to learn from these verses.  

一つの教えは、主が全てを管理しておられるということです。主が望まれないことは起こりません。計画されていないことは起こりません。主の御業の前進を止めるようなことは何も起こりません。

One lesson is that the Lord is in charge.  Nothing is going to happen that the Lord does not want to happen.  Nothing is going to happen that is not planned for.  Nothing is going to happen to stop the work of the Lord from going forward.

もう一つの教えは、天父はすべての子供たちを愛しておられ、私たちが真理を知ることを望んでおられるということです。そのために、預言者や使徒を召して教えてくださるのです。預言者と使徒は天父から啓示を受けます。そして、私たちが何をすべきか、何を知るべきかを教えてくれます。

Another lesson is that Heavenly Father loves all his children and wants us to know the truth.  He does this by giving us prophets and apostles to teach us.  Prophets and apostles receive revelation from Heavenly Father.  They then teach us what we should do and what we should know.

さらにもう一つの教えは、回復が起こるということです。背教がある以上、回復も必要です。ユダヤ人やニーファイ人の古代の預言者たちは、終わりの日にすべてのものが回復することを予言していました。

Still another lesson is that there was going to be a restoration.  Since there was to be an apostasy, there would also need to be a restoration.  Ancient prophets among the Jews and among the Nephites foretold the restoration of all things in the last days.

短期的には、パウロは福音が失われ、多くの人々が真理から離れていくことを悲しんだに違いありません。しかし長期的には、回復があることを知っていたので、パウロは喜んだに違いありません。

In the short term, Paul must have been sad that the gospel would be lost and that so many people would fall away from the truth.  In the long term, though, Paul must have rejoiced because he knew that there would be restoration.

今日私たちは、その実際の回復を目にするという特権を受けています。多くの古代の預言者たちが示現で見たその時代に、私たちは生きているのです。私たちは、万物が回復されるその時代に生きています。

In our day, we have the privilege of seeing that actual Restoration unfolding.  We live in that time that many ancient prophets had seen in vision.  We live in that time when all things are being restored.

再び、地上に生ける預言者と使徒がいます。再び、神権の鍵は義人に授けられています。再び、救いの儀式はすべてのふさわしい会員が受けることができます。

Once again, there are living prophets and apostles on the earth.  Once again, the keys of the priesthood have been conferred upon righteous men.  Once again, the ordinances of salvation are available to all worthy members.

私たちに与えられた業、この神権時代の業は、イスラエルを集めることです。私たちには、地上のすべての人に福音を宣べ伝える責任があります。また、暗闇の時代に生きた天父の息子や娘たちが、救いの儀式を受けれるようにする責任もあります。

The work that we have been given, the work of our Dispensation, is the gathering of Israel.  We have the responsibility to preach the gospel to everyone on the earth.  We also have the responsibility to ensure that those sons and daughters of Heavenly Father who lived during the times of darkness receive all the ordinances of salvation for themselves.  

新しい週が始まります。預言者と使徒が私たちに真の教義を教えてくれることを感謝して過ごしましょう。天父が召した預言者たちを通して、愛する子供たちに語っておられることを覚えていましょう。主が管理責任者であり、主の御業が前進するのを妨げるものは何もないことを忘れないでください。主の預言者と使徒たちの勧告と教えに常に従うよう最善を尽くしましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that prophets and apostles teach us true doctrine.  Let’s remember that Heavenly Father speaks to his children through his appointed prophets.  Let’s remember that the Lord is in charge and that nothing will stop the work of the Lord from moving forward. Let’s do our best to always follow the counsel and teachings of the Lord’s prophets and apostles.
