おお、賢くありなさい。わたしはこのうえ、何を言えようか。ヤコブ6章12節
O be wise; what can I say more? Jacob 6:12
This is a very short, but very interesting scripture. It was given to us by Jacob, the younger brother of Nephi.
これはとても短く、非常に興味深い聖句です。ニーファイの弟であるヤコブに与えられたものです。
In chapter 6, Jacob admonishes the Nephites to repent and to believe in God. He tells them to believe in Jesus Christ and to not harden their hearts. He reminds them of the many wicked things that they have been doing.
この第6章でヤコブはニーファイ人に悔い改め、神を信じるよう警告しています。イエス・キリストを信じ、心をかたくなにしないよう教えています。彼らが行ってきた多くの邪悪な行いを叱責しています。
Finally, as the closing words to his plea to the Nephites to repent and to accept the words of Christ, Jacob says with great feeling, “O be wise. What can I say more?”
最後にヤコブは悔い改め、キリストの言葉を受け入れるようにというニーファイ人への最後の嘆願の言葉として「おお、賢くありなさい。わたしはこのうえ、何を言えようか」と心の願いを残しています。
You can almost feel the great love Jacob has for his people in this statement. You can also sense his frustration at their lack of willingness to repent and receive the blessings of the gospel.
この言葉の中にはヤコブの彼らへの大きな愛がよく読み取れます。また彼らが進んで悔い改めや福音の祝福を受けたいと思わないことへの彼の失望した気持ちを感じ取ることも出来るでしょう。
Are we any different than the Nephites of Jacob’s time?
私たちはヤコブの時代のニーファイ人とどれ程違うでしょう？
Like the Nephites, we have been given the gospel plan. We have been taught about our Savior Jesus Christ. We have been given prophets and apostles to lead and guide us. We have been given the scriptures in many languages, Church magazines, Church videos, and many more things to help us strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ.
ニーファイ人のように私たちも福音の計画を教わっています。救い主イエス・キリストについて教わっています。私たちを導き指導してくれる預言者や使徒が与えられています。多くの言語に訳された聖典や教会の刊行誌、ビデオ、他にもイエス・キリストへの信仰を強めるために用意された数多くのものが与えられています。

A prophet of God has given us instructions on how to use our time on the Sabbath Day to study, ponder, and learn about the gospel. He has reminded us that we are responsible for our own learning. We have been given study guides and study plans to help us.
神の預言者は私たちが安息日に福音について勉強し、深く考え、学ぶためにどのように時間を使ったらよいか指導してくださいました。

Twice each year, we have the opportunity to hear directly from prophets, apostles, and other leaders of the Lord’s Church. We can read and study those messages in the Ensign, in the Liahona, and on-line on the Church’s web site. We are instructed to treat those messages as modern day scripture.
年に２回私たちは主の教会の預言者や使徒、その他の指導者から直接お話しを聞く機会があります。私たちはそのメッセージを、Ensign やリアホナ、教会のウェブサイトで読み、学習することが出来ます。私たちはそれらのメッセージも現代の聖典として取り扱うよう指導を受けています。

We have been given the opportunity to minister to those around us. The ministering program gives us great flexibility in how we minister to those in need. We have been reminded that it is our duty to serve others as the Savior did.
私たちには周りの人にミニスタリングする機会があります。ミニスタリングのプログラムは助けの必要な人にミニスタリングをどのようにするか柔軟的な機会を与えてくれます。主がされたように私たちは誰かに奉仕する義務があることを教えています。

We have been counseled to read The Book of Mormon every day. We have been counseled to attend all of our Church meetings. We have been counseled to be worthy to have a temple recommend and to attend the temple as often as possible. We have been counseled to “stay on the covenant path”.
私たちは毎日モルモン書を読むよう勧められています。全ての教会の集会に出席するよう勧めを受けています。私たちは神殿推薦状を持つのにふさわしくいるよう、また頻繁に神殿に参入するよう勧告を受けています。私たちは「誓約の道にとどまっているよう」勧告を受けています。

私たちは「賢くありますか」？
As we go through this next week, let’s do our best to “be wise”. Let’s repent of our sins and go forward with greater faith. Let’s remember the great blessings that are promised.
「賢くあるよう」最善を尽くして今週を過ごしましょう。自分の罪を悔い改め、大きな信仰を持って前に進みましょう。約束された偉大な祝福を忘れないようにしましょう。
