ところが、道を急いでダマスコの近くにきたとき、突然、天から光がさして、彼をめぐり照らした。彼は地に倒れたが、その時「サウロ、サウロ、なぜわたしを迫害するのか」と呼びかける声を聞いた。そこで彼は「主よ、あなたは、どなたですか」と尋ねた。すると答えがあった、「わたしはあなたが迫害しているイエスである。さあ立って、町にはいって行きなさい。そうすれば、そこであなたのなすべき事が告げられるであろう」。使徒行伝９：３−６
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: and he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who are thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou presecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. Acts 9:3-6
聖書には、奇跡的な改宗についての記述がふたつあります。
In the scriptures, we have two accounts of miraculous conversions.
どちらの場合も、その人物は教会を迫害し、大きな問題を引き起こしていました。どちらの場合も、偉大な宣教師になる可能性が最も低いと思われる人物を主が召されました。どちらの場合も、主が召された人物は教会で最も偉大な宣教師となりました。
In both cases, the individual was persecuting the Church and was causing big problems. In both cases, the Lord called an individual who seemed the least likely to become a great missionary. In both cases, the man the Lord called became one of the greatest missionaries of the Church.
そのうちの一人がアルマの息子アルマでした。もう一人はサウロで、改宗後にパウロと改名しました。
One of these men was Alma, the son of Alma. The other man was Saul, whose name was changed to Paul after his conversion.
教会で育ちながら堕落したアルマとは異なり、パウロはユダヤ教で育ち、自分が真理だと思うものを積極的に守っていました。彼はユダヤ教の指導者たちから、イエス・キリストの信者と疑われる者を逮捕する権限を受けていました。彼は国中を回り、イエス・キリストを信じるすべての人を排除しようとしたのです。
Unlike Alma, who had been raised in the Church but who fell away, Paul was raised in the Jewish faith and was actively protecting what he thought was the truth. He had authority from the Jewish leaders to arrest anyone suspected of being a follower of Jesus Christ. He traveled around the country, trying to eliminate everyone who believed in Jesus Christ.
彼は見つけれるかぎりのクリスチャンを逮捕するためにダマスコを旅しているとき、示現を見ました。それは天から柱の光が降りてきて、彼を照らし、教会を迫害するのをやめるようにという声を聞いたのです。サウロは恐れおののき、誰が自分に話しかけているのかと尋ねました。主はサウロに、イエス・キリストが彼に語りかけているのだと言われました。
As he was traveling to Damascus to arrest any Christians that he could find, he had a great vision. He said that a pillar light came down from heaven and shined on him. He heard a voice telling him to stop persecuting the Church. Saul was terrified and astonished and asked who was speaking to him. The Lord told Saul that it was Jesus Christ who was speaking to him.
その瞬間、サウロに変化が訪れました。彼は「主よ、私に何をしてほしいとお思いですか？」と尋ねました。主はサウロに都に行くように言われました。アルマと同じように、サウロは3日間、見ることも聞くこともできませんでした。
In that instant, Saul had a change come over him. He asked, “Lord, what wilt thou have me do?” The Lord told Saul to go into the city and he would be told what to do. Just as with Alma, Saul was not able to see or hear for three days.
そこで主は、ダマスコの神権指導者アナニヤを遣わし、サウロに福音を教え、バプテスマを授けられました。サウロ、すなわちパウロは、新約聖書の偉大な宣教師となったのです。
The Lord then sent Ananias, a priesthood leader in Damascus, to teach Saul the gospel and to baptize him. Saul, or Paul as he was now known, became the great missionary of the New Testament.
パウロが問いかけた質問は、私たちも同じように問いかけるべきです。「主よ、私に何をしてほしいとお思いですか？」
The question the Paul asked is the same question that each of us need to ask. “Lord, what wilt thou have me do”.
「主よ、私に何をしてほしいとお思いですか？」
“Lord, what wilt thou have me do.”
今日、主があなたに望んでおられることは何でしょうか。今日、主はその御手として、あなたに何を成し遂げてもらう必要があるのでしょうか？今日、主はあなたに誰に仕えることを必要とされているのでしょうか？主は今日、あなたにどこで奉仕することを必要とされているのでしょうか？
What is it that the Lord wants you to do today. What does the Lord need you, as his hands, to accomplish today? Who does the Lord need you to serve today? Where does the Lord need you to serve today?
「主よ、私に何をしてほしいとお思いですか？」
“Lord, what wilt thou have me do.”
新しい週が始まります。毎日「主よ、私に何をしてほしいとお思いですか？」と尋ねてみてはいかがでしょう。どうすれば主に最もよく仕えることができるのか、主の導きを求めてみましょう。救い主イエス・キリストのようになるために、何をすべきか、導きを求めてみましょう。聖霊の促しに耳を傾けましょう。そして最も重要なことは、その促しに従って行動することです。主が望んでおられることを実行するために、最善を尽くしましょう。
As we go through this next week, let’s ask this question each day. Let’s ask for direction from the Lord as to how we can best serve him. Let’s ask for guidance about what we need to do to become more like our Savior, Jesus Christ. Let’s listen for the promptings of the Holy Ghost and then, most importantly, let’s act on those promptings. Let’s do our best to do what the Lord wants us to do.
