だから、自分の罪をぬぐい去っていただくために、悔い改めて本心に立ちかえりなさい。それは、主のみ前から慰めの時がきて、あなたがたのためにあらかじめ定めてあったキリストとなるイエスを、神がつかわしてくださるためである。このイエスは、神が聖なる預言者たちの口をとおして、昔から預言しておられた万物更新の時まで、天にとどめておかれねばならなかった。使徒行伝３：１９−２１

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ, which was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.  Acts 3:19-21

使徒行伝の最初のいくつかの章は、新約聖書の中で最も興味深いものです。この章では、ペテロと他の使徒たちが、力と権威をもって教会を率いている様子が書かれています。

The first few chapters of the book of Acts are some of the most interesting in all of the New Testament.  These chapters show Peter and the other Apostles leading the Church with power and authority.  

ペテロは、今日で言うところの十二使徒定員会の会長として、成長し始めた教会を導きました。ペテロは、救い主を十字架につけたユダヤ人たちに、力強く説教しています。もはや、ペテロは躊躇したり、恐れたりすることはありませんでした。彼は今や、力強い神権指導者となったのです。

Peter, as what we would call today the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, leads the Church as it begins to grow.  We see him preaching with great power to the same groups of Jewish people who had recently crucified the Savior.  No longer is Peter hesitant or afraid.  He is now a powerful priesthood leader.

教会に終止符を打ったと思っていたユダヤ教の指導者たちの迫害に対して、彼は力強く立ち向かいました。彼らは、主の御業がまだ前進していることに腹を立てていました。ペテロや他の使徒たちを迫害して、その働きを止めようとしたのです。しかし、迫害と試練の中でも、使徒たちは「自分たちが御名のために恥を加えられるも足る者とされた」ことを喜びました。

He stands firm and steadfast against the persecutions of the Jewish leaders who thought that they had put an end to the Church.  Those leaders were angry that the work of the Lord was still moving forward.  They tried to stop the work by persecuting Peter and the other Apostles.  But even in the midst of persecution and trials, the Apostles rejoiced “that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name”.

ペテロとヨハネが神殿に行ったときの記述にはこうあります。そこで彼らは足の不自由な人を見つけました。その人は毎日門のそばに座ってお金を乞うていました。ペテロはその人を見て、この人に渡すお金はないが、自分の持っているものをあげようと言いました。そして、手を伸ばしてその人の手を取り、イエス・キリストの名によって、その人に立ち上がるように命じました。すると、その人はすぐに癒されました。

One account tells of a time that Peter and John go to the Temple.  There they find a man who was lame.  That man sat by the gate every day and begged for money.  When Peter saw the man, he said that he did not have any money to give to him, but that he would give what he did have.  He reached out, took the man by the hand, and commanded him in the name of Jesus Christ to stand up.  The man was immediately healed.

これを見た人々は驚きました。ペテロはなぜ驚いたのか人々に尋ねました。彼は、ペテロひとりの力によって癒されたのではなく、イエス・キリストの御名によって癒されたのだと言いました。ペテロは、救い主が自分たちの間を歩いておられたのに、自分たちが救い主を拒み、十字架につけてしまったことを人々に思い出させました。

The people who saw this were amazed.  Peter asked the people why they were amazed.  He said that the man was not healed by any power of Peter alone, but by the name of Jesus Christ.  He reminded the people that the Savior had walked among them, but that they had rejected him and had crucified him.

ペテロのユダヤ人へのメッセージは、歴史上、主の預言者たちが伝えてきたメッセージと同じでした。そのメッセージとは、悔い改めて、イエス・キリストを信じなさいというものです。悔い改め、戒めを守り、罪の赦しを待ち望むというメッセージです。

The message of Peter to the Jews was the same message that the Lord’s prophets have given throughout history.  The message is to repent and to believe in Jesus Christ.  The message is that we must repent, keep the commandments, and look forward to a remission of our sins.

ペテロはまた、主の時が来ると、救い主が再びこの地上に戻って来られることを教えました。彼は、古代の預言者たちの言葉を人々に教え、救い主が再び来られるとき、すべての預言者たちによって語られてきたすべてのことが回復されると言いました。

Peter also taught that the Savior will return to the earth again, in the due time of the Lord.  He taught the people the words of the ancient prophets, and said that when the Savior comes again, all things that have been spoken by all the prophets will be restored.  

私たちは、万物が回復される時代に生きています。主の偉大な預言者であるジョセフ・スミスによる主の教会の回復によって、「万物の回復」の業が始まりました。ネルソン大管長は、この回復が現在も続いていること、さらに多くの重要な永遠の真理が地上に回復されることを繰り返し教えてきました。

We are living in the time when all things are being restored.  With the restoration of the Lord’s Church, through his great prophet, Joseph Smith, the work of the “restitution of all things” began.  President Nelson has repeatedly taught us that the restoration is on-going and that many more important and eternal truths will be restored to the earth.

新しい週が始まります。福音はどの時代でも同じであることを覚えていてください。アダムの時代も、ノアの時代も、アブラハムの時代も、イザヤの時代も、ニーファイの時代も、ペテロの時代も、そして私たちの時代もそうです。それらの古代の預言者たちが、私たちの時代と、回復からもたらされる祝福を待ち望んでいたことを思い起こしてください。悔い改めてイエス・キリストを信じなさいという福音の明瞭なメッセージを忘れないようにしましょう。イエス・キリストのすべての戒めを守るために最善を尽くしましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that the gospel is the same in all ages.  It was true in the days of Adam, in the days of Noah, in the days of Abraham, in the days of Isaiah, in the days of Nephi, in the days of Peter, and in our own day.  Let’s remember that those ancient prophets have looked forward to our day and to the blessings that would come during the restoration.  Let’s remember the simple message of the gospel, repent and believe in Jesus Christ.  Let’s do our best to keep all his commandments.
