キリスト教では復活祭を、またユダヤ教では過越の祭りを迎える時、私たちの思いは、主であり救い主であるイエス・キリストの偉大な贖いの犠牲に向けられます。この偉大な出来事は、アダムの時代から神の預言者たちによって預言されてきました。実際、世界が創造される前に、天上の大会議で、イエス・キリストは全人類の救い主、贖い主となるために油をそそがれました。

As the Christian world prepares to celebrate Easter and the Jewish world prepares to celebrate Passover, our thoughts turn to the great Atoning Sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  This great event had been foretold by prophets of God since the days of Adam.  In fact, long before the creation of the world, in that Grand Council in Heaven, Jesus Christ was anointed to become the Savior and Redeemer of all mankind.

Elder Bruce R. McConkie taught that there are three key events that have the greatest importance to us.  

最初の偉大な出来事は、この世界の創造です。天の御父と救い主イエス・キリストは、私たちのためにこの地球を創造されました。それは、私たちが来て、現世の試練と困難を経験し、戻って永遠の栄光の中で生きる価値があることを証明できる場所です。この地球が創造されるまで、私たちは誰一人として進歩することができませんでした。

The first great event is the creation of this world.  Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ created this earth for us.  It is a place where we can come, experience the trials and difficulties of mortal life, and prove ourselves worthy to return and live in eternal glory.  None of us could progress until this earth was created.

2つ目の偉大な出来事は「堕落」です。アダムとエバは、地上で最初の男と女になる使命を与えられました。 彼らは重要な義務を負うこととなりました。短期的には世界に苦しみと痛みをもたらし、長期的には私たちがここに来て、自由意志を行使し、善悪の選択をすることを可能にしました。彼らは私たちの進歩を可能にしたのです。

The second great event was the Fall.  Adam and Eve were given the assignment to be the first man and the first woman on this earth.  They had an important duty to make choices that, in the short term would bring suffering and pain into the world, but in the long term would make it possible for us to come here, exercise our free agency, and make choices between right and wrong.  They made it possible for us progress.

最後の偉大な出来事は、救い主イエス・キリストの贖罪でした。アダムからイエス・キリストに至るまでの神の預言者たちは、人々に贖いの必要性を教え、人々が福音のメッセージを受け入れるように備えさせました。旧約聖書もモルモン書も、イエス・キリストの贖罪に関する預言でいっぱいです。

The third and final great event was the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ.  Prophets of God from Adam down to Jesus Christ taught the people about the need for the Atonement and tried to prepare the people to receive the message of the gospel.  Both the Old Testament and the Book of Mormon are full of prophecies about the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

この偉大な贖罪の犠牲があるからこそ、私たちは悔い改めることができるのです。私たちは皆、罪を犯しています。それらの罪から洗い清められ、約束された祝福を受けるにふさわしくなれる唯一の方法は、真の悔い改めとイエス・キリストへの信仰によるものです。

It is this great Atoning Sacrifice that makes it possible for us to repent.  We have all committed sin.  The only way we can be washed clean from those sins and be worthy to receive the promised blessing is by true repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.  

救い主の復活により、全人類が復活する道が開かれました。この地上に生まれたすべての人は復活します。そのために私たちは努力する必要はありません。それは救い主からの無償の贈り物です。

The Resurrection of the Savior opened the way for all mankind to be resurrected.  Every person born on this earth will be resurrected.  It requires no effort on our part.  It is a free gift from our Savior.

贖罪によって悔い改める道が開かれました。復活とは異なり、贖罪の祝福を受けるために行動しなければなりません。私たちは、イエス・キリストを信じる必要があります。 自分の罪を悔い改める必要があり、戒めを守る必要があります。これらを行うことによって、約束されたすべての祝福を受けることができるのです。

The Atonement opened the way for us to repent.  Unlike resurrection, we must each take action to receive the blessings of the Atonement.  We need to have faith in Jesus Christ.  We need to repent of our sins.  We need to keep the commandments.  By doing these things, can receive all the promised blessings.

この最後の偉大な出来事は、今までで最も重要なものです。そして将来もこれ以上の偉大な出来事は起こらないでしょう。

This third and final great event should be something that we remember every day, not just once a year.  It is the most important event that has ever or will ever happen in this world.  

今年の復活祭を祝うにあたり、それが何を表しているのかを思い出しましょう。私たちの罪のために、救い主が苦しみを受けたことを覚えていましょう。イエス・キリストの贖罪によってのみ、悔い改めて清められることを忘れないようにしましょう。救い主がわたしたちに抱いておられる大きな愛を忘れないようにしましょう。悔い改め、イエス・キリストの良い弟子となるために最善を尽くしましょう。

As we celebrate Easter this year, let’s remember what it represents.  Let’s remember the suffering of our Savior because of our sins.  Let’s remember that it is only through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that we can repent and be washed clean.  Let’s remember the great love the Savior has for us.  Let’s do our best to repent and to be good disciples of Jesus Christ.
