わたしは天から下って来た生きたパンである。それを食べる者は、いつまでも生きるであろう。わたしが与えるパンは、世の命のために与えるわたしの肉である。 ヨハネ６：５１

I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. John 6:51

ヨハネによる福音書は、「共観福音書」として分類されることはありません。マタイ、マルコ、ルカによるこの三つの福音書は、それぞれ救い主の働きと教えを要約した、いわゆる「共観福音書」です。ヨハネは、特に教会の会員に向けて書いています。

The Gospel of John, unlike the other three gospels, is not classified as a “synoptic” gospel.  The other three gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, are each a summary, or “synopsis” of the Savior’s ministry and teachings.  John is writing specifically to members of the Church.  

ヨハネによる福音書は、どちらかというと総大会のお話のようなものです。ヨハネは、読者が福音の計画と救い主の基本的な教えを理解していると仮定しています。彼は、教会員が理解してるたとえや象徴を使っています。それらのたとえや象徴は、イエス・キリストの福音に精通していない人々にとって、理解しがたいことがあります。

The Book of John is more like a General Conference talk.  John assumes that his readers understand the gospel plan and the basic teachings of the Savior.  He uses examples and symbols that the members of the Church understood.  Those examples and symbols are sometimes difficult for those who are not familiar with the gospel of Jesus Christ to understand.

この節で、救い主は多くの教義的原則について私たちに教えておられます。救い主は、ご自分が神の子であることを教えておられます。救い主は、私たちに代わってなさる偉大な贖罪について教えておられます。また、聖餐式の重要性と意味についても教えておられます。

In this verse, the Savior teaches us about many doctrinal principles.  He teaches us that he is the Son of God.  He teaches us about the great Atonement that he will make on our behalf.  He also teaches us about the importance and meaning of the sacrament.

救い主はその頃、数千人の人々に食事を与えるという大きな奇跡を示されました。彼らは皆、パンを与えられました。そのパンは、彼らの肉体にとって重要なものでした。

The Savior had recently performed a great miracle in feeding several thousand people.  They had all been given bread to eat.  The bread that they ate was important to their physical bodies.

その経験を踏まえて、救い主は人々に、自分が「生きたパン」であることを説明されました。そして、彼らが理解できる言葉で教えようとされたのです。パンが肉体を助けるように、「生きたパン」は霊的な肉体を助けるのです。パンだけを食べている人は、また空腹になります。しかし、「生きたパン」を食べる者は永遠に生きるのです。

With that experience in mind, the Savior explained to the people that he was the “living bread”.  He was trying to teach them in words that they could understand.  Just as the physical bread helped their physical bodies, so the “living bread” will help their spiritual bodies.  Those who only eat the physical bread will be hungry again.  However, those who partake of the “living bread” will live forever.

救い主が私たちに与えてくださる「生きたパン」とは、救い主の偉大な贖罪です。その「生きたパン」を提供するために、救い主は天から降りてこられたと教えられておられます。

The ”living bread” that the Savior gives to us is his great Atonement.  We are taught that the Savior came down from heaven to provide that “living bread”.  

毎週、聖餐を取るとき、私たちは物理的なパンを食べますが、そのパンは、救い主の贖罪の「生きたパン」を表しています。私たちは象徴的に、パンで表される救い主の「肉」と、水で表される救い主の「血」にあずかることができるのです。

As we partake of the sacrament each week, we eat physical bread, but that physical bread represents the “living bread” of the Savior’s Atonement.  Thus, we are symbolically able to partake of his “flesh”, represented by the bread, and his “blood” represented by the water.

「生きたパン」を口にすれば、私たちはどのように永遠に生きることができるのでしょうか？

How will we live forever if we partake of the “living bread”?

イエス・キリストの戒めを守り、救いの儀式をすべて受け、最後まで耐えることによって、私たちは永遠に生きることができます。聖書には，これらのことを行えば，天父の持っておられるものを私たちはすべて受けると約束されています。私たちは天父と、救い主イエス・キリストと、そして自分の家族と共に、日の栄で永遠に生きることができるのです。

We will live forever by keeping the commandments of Jesus Christ, by receiving all the ordinances of salvation, and by enduring to the end.  We are promised in the scriptures that if we do these things, all that the Father has will be given to us.  We will be able to live forever in Celestial glory with our Heavenly Father, with our Savior Jesus Christ, and with our own families.  

それはすべて、「生きたパン」であるイエス・キリストの偉大な贖罪によって可能となるのです。贖罪は、私たちが自分の罪を悔い改めることを可能にします。贖罪は、私たちが救いの儀式を受けることを可能にしてくれます。贖罪は、私たちが日の栄に行き、共に生きることを可能にしてくれます。

It is all made possible by the “living bread”, the great Atonement of Jesus Christ.  The Atonement makes it possible for us to repent of our sins.  The Atonement makes it possible for us to receive the ordinances of salvation.  The Atonement makes it possible for us to return and live in Celestial glory.

毎週聖餐を取るとき、私たちは象徴的に「生きたパン」にあずかっていることを覚えていましょう。私たちの救い主イエス・キリストの偉大な贖罪の犠牲を思い起こしましょう。救い主によってのみ、私たちは永遠に続く真の幸福を手に入れることができるのです。私たちの救い主イエス・キリストのより良い従者となるために最善を尽くしましょう。

As we partake of the sacrament each week, let’s remember that we are symbolically partaking of the “living bread”.  Let’s remember the great Atoning Sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ.  Let’s remember that it is only through our Savior that we can have true happiness for eternity.  Let’s do our best to be better followers of our Savior Jesus Christ.
