しかしイエスは言われた、「いや、めぐまれているのは、むしろ、神の言を聞いてそれを守る人たちである」。ルカ１１：２８

But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.  Luke 11:28

ある時、救い主が人々に福音を宣べ伝えていたとき、ある女が救い主の母親を称賛しました。彼女は確かに最高の称賛に値する人物でしたが、救い主はそのとき大切な原則を教えられました。

On one occasion, as the Savior preached the gospel to the people, a woman shouted out praises to his mother.  While his mother was certainly worthy of the highest praise, the Savior taught an important principle when this happened.

救い主は、最も称賛に値する者は、神の言葉を聞くだけでなく、神の言葉を守る者であると教えられました。

He taught us that the individual who was most deserving of praise was the individual who not only hears the word of God, but who then keeps the word of God.

今日でも、この原則が理解できず救い主の母親を賛美する人々がいます。一部の教会では、救い主ではなく救い主の母親に祈るよう教えられています。

In our day, there are those who still praise the Savior’s mother, without understanding this principle.  In some Churches, the people are taught to pray, not to the Savior, but to his mother.  

マリアが偉大な人物であり、主の選ばれた器であったことは事実です。イスラエルのすべての女性の中から、彼女は現世でイエス・キリストの母として選ばれました。彼女には、救い主をこの死すべき世界にもたらす輝かしい責任がありました。彼女は救い主を教え、訓練し、現世での務めに備えられるように助けることになっていました。彼女は献身と愛と義をもってこれらすべてのことを行いました。

It is true that Mary was a great individual, a chosen vessel of the Lord.  Out of all the women in Israel, she had been chosen to be the mother of Jesus Christ in mortality.  Hers was the glorious responsibility to bring the Savior into this mortal world.  She was to teach him and train him and help him prepare himself for his mortal ministry.  She did all these things with dedication, love, and righteousness.

私たちは彼女に最高の敬意を払いますが、彼女に祈ることはしません。私たちは救い主イエス・キリストを通して天の御父に祈るだけです。これにならい、私たちは救い主が御父に祈られたように、御父に祈るよう教えられたイエス・キリストの模範に従います。

However, while we offer her the greatest respect and honor, we do not pray to her.  We only pray to Heavenly Father, through our Savior, Jesus Christ.  In this, we follow the example of Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray to the Father, as our Savior prayed to the Father. 

この聖句で主は、神の言葉を聞くだけでは十分ではないと教えておられることに注目してください。これは背教したゾーラム人がモルモン書で行ったことです。 ゾーラム人は現代の多くの教会のように安息日に主の言葉を聞くために集まりました。しかし、アルマが私たちに教えているように、彼らは家に戻った後、主についても主の福音についても全く話をしませんでした。

Notice that in this scripture, the Lord teaches us that it is not enough just to hear the word of God.  This is what the apostate Zoramites did in the Book of Mormon.  Like many Churches in our day, the Zoramites gathered together each Sabbath day to hear the word of the Lord.  But, as Alma teaches us, they then went back to their homes, never speaking of the Lord or of his gospel during the rest of the week.

神の言葉は隣人を愛することを教えています。神の言葉は、たとえ自分とは異なっていても、すべての人に親切であるよう教えています。神の言葉は、人に仕えることを教えています。

The word of God teaches us to love our neighbor.  The word of God teaches us to be kind to everyone, even if they are different than we are.  The word of God teaches us to serve others.

神の言葉は、毎週聖餐会に出席するよう教えています。神の言葉は、与えられた召しが何であれ、奉仕することを教えています。神の言葉は、安息日を聖く保つよう教えています。

The word of God teaches us to attend our weekly Sacrament meetings.  The word of God teaches us to serve in whatever calling we may have been given.  The word of God teaches us to keep the Sabbath Day holy.

神の言葉は私たちに毎日祈ることを教えています。神の言葉は、毎日聖文を研究するよう教えています。神の言葉は、私たちが何をするにも正直であるよう教えています。

The word of God teaches us to pray each day.  The word of God teaches us to study the scriptures each day.  The word of God teaches us to be honest in all that we do.

神の言葉は、私たちを教えるために選ばれた預言者や使徒たちの言葉に耳を傾けるよう教えてくれます。神の言葉は、「わたしに従ってきなさい」のガイドを使って個人または家族で毎週学習するよう教えています。神の言葉は、正直に什分の一を納めることを教えています。

The word of God teaches us to listen to the words of the prophets and apostles who have been chosen to teach us.  The word of God teaches us to use the “Come, Follow Me” guide to study individually or as a family each week.  The word of God teaches us to pay a full and honest tithing.

神の言葉は、先祖を探し、先祖に代わって救いの儀式を受けるよう教えています。神の言葉は、できるだけ頻繁に神殿に参入するよう教えています。神の言葉は、すべての戒めを守るよう教えています。

The word of God teaches us to seek after our ancestors and receive the ordinances of salvation on their behalf.  The word of God teaches us to attend the Temple as often as we can.  The word of God teaches us to keep all of the commandments.

私たちは神の言葉を聞くだけですか、それとも神の言葉を守りますか?

Do we only hear the word of God, or do we keep the word of God?

新しい週が始まります。あなたが神の言葉を守っているか自分自身を吟味してみましょう。神の言葉を守るためにできることがあれば最善を尽くして改めましょう。神の言葉を聞くだけでなく、それ以上の者になることを決意しましょう。神の言葉を守る者となるために、一生懸命働きましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s examine ourselves and see if we are keeping the word of God.  Let’s do our best to improve in something that will help us to keep the word of God.  Let’s resolve to be more than just hearers of the word of God.  Let’s work hard to be keepers of the word of God.
