わたしはあなたがたが、すなわちあなたがたの多くが将来のことを知るとして、大いに探し求めてきたことを知っている。その結果わたしに分かるのは、わたしたちの肉体は必ず衰えて死ぬけれども、将来わたしたちが肉体にあって神にまみえることを、あなたがたが知っているということである。ニーファイ第二書９：４
For I know that ye have searched much, many of you, to know of things to come; wherefore I know that ye know that our flesh must waste away and die; nevertheless, in our bodies we shall see God. 2 Nephi 9:4
This scripture is from Jacob’s teachings to the Nephites, as recorded in 2 Nephi. Jacob teaches the people of Nephi about the Atonement of the Savior. He also teaches them about what happens to us after we die.
この聖句は第２ニーファイに記録させていますが、ニーファイの民に宛てたヤコブの教えが記されています。ヤコブはニーファイ人に救い主の贖いについて、また私たちが死んだ後のことについて教えています。
Jacob tells the people that if there was no Atonement, we would be cut off from God forever. Since we have all committed sin, we could not return to our Heavenly Father. We would be under the control of Satan forever.
ヤコブはもし贖いが無ければ私たちは神のみ前から永遠に切り離されると述べています。私たちは誰でも罪を犯すので天父の元に戻ることは出来なく、サタンの支配下に永遠にいなければならなくなってしまいます。
“Oh, how great the goodness of our God, who prepareth a way for our escape from this awful monster”, says Jacob in verse 10. Because of the great Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can have hope.
ヤコブは「おお、神の慈しみの何と深いことか。わたしたちがこの恐ろしい怪物に捕らないように、神は逃れる道を備えてくださっている」と10節で述べています。イエス・キリストの偉大な贖いのおかげで私たちは希望が持てるのです。
It is a simple fact that everyone who is born into this world will someday die. No one is exempt. No one can escape. No one can skip that step.
この世に生まれてくる誰もがいつかは死ぬという事実は分かり切ったことです。誰も例外ではなく、誰もその事実から逃れられません。誰もそれを避けて通れません。
This is a very important point. In today’s world, people do not like to talk about death. They want to pretend that they will live forever.
それはとても重要なポイントです。今日、人々は死についてあまり話したがりません。彼らはあたかも永遠に生き続けれるかのように思っています。
Because of this, they ignore the commandments of the Lord. They think that nothing will ever happen to them. They do not prepare for the one great certainty of life.
そのため彼らは主の戒めをないがしろにしています。彼らは自分の身には何事も起こらないだろうと考えています。人生の重大なこの課題があっても備えようとしません。
We know that this life is only a small part of our eternal existence. We know that this life is a time for us to grow and to learn. We know that this life is a time for us to prepare to meet God.
人生は私たちの永遠の観点から見るとほんの一部なのです。人生は私たちが学び成長する時なのです。人生は私たちが神に会う用意をする時なのです。私たちはそのことを知っています。
We also know that, because of the great Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can repent of our sins. We can make changes in our lives. We can go forward with faith in our Savior.
私たちは偉大なイエス・キリストの贖いのおかげで罪が赦されることも知っています。生活を変えることが出来ますし、主に信仰を持って歩み続けることが出来ます。
Just as death is an absolute certainty, so is the fact that we will all be resurrected. Everyone who was born will someday die. Everyone who was born and who has died will someday be resurrected.
死が避けられない事実であるように復活も確かな事実です。この世に生を受ける者は誰でもいつかは死にます。この世に生を受ける者は誰でもいつかは復活します。
When we are resurrected, our own spirit and our own body will be re-united. We will have a body that will never die again. We will never have any more sickness or pain.
私たちが復活するとき霊と肉体が再び一体となります。その時は二度と死なない肉体を受けます。病気や痛みにも無縁の体になるのです。
As a resurrected being, we will stand before God to be judged of our actions here on earth. We will receive a judgement according to our deeds here in the flesh.
復活体で私たちは神のみ前に立ち、地上でも行いの裁きを受けます。肉体を持つこの世での行いによって裁きを受けます。
Because this life is a time for us to prepare for our eternal life, we need to do all that we can do to follow the Savior. We need to repent of our sins. We need to work hard to keep his commandments. We need to do all the things that he has asked us to do.
この人生は永遠の命の備えをする時なので私たちは救い主に従うよう最善を尽くす必要があります。罪を悔い改める必要があります。戒めを守るよう努力をしなければなりません。主が教えられた事をすべて行わねばなりません。
Let’s remember that death will come someday to each of us. Let’s remember that this life is short. Let’s remember that this is the time given to us to prepare for our eternal life.
死というものが私たちの誰にもやって来ることを忘れないようにしましょう。人生は短いです。私たちに与えられてるこの時間は永遠の命を受ける備えをする時であることを忘れないようにしましょう。
