Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord; And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.  Malachi 4:5-6

As we close out our study of the Old Testament, we come to the writings of the prophet Malachi, the last prophet that we have record of in the Old Testament.  Like the other “minor” prophets, the book of Malachi is short, containing only four chapters.  But within those four chapters are some of the best known scriptures of the Old Testament.

旧約聖書の学習が終わろうとしています。ここでは、旧約聖書に記録されている最後の預言者マラキの書簡を学びます。他の「マイナーな」預言者と同様に、マラキ書は短く4つの章しかありません。しかし、これらの4つの章には、旧約聖書の最も有名な聖句が含まれています。

When we think about the principle of tithing, we immediately think of the verses in chapter 3, which ask the question, “Will a man rob God?”.  Malachi bears a strong testimony of the importance and power of the law of tithing.  Obedience to this law brings great blessings.  

什分の一の原則について考えるとき、私たちはすぐに第3章の「人は神の物を盗むことをするだろうか」と問いかけている節を思い浮かべます。マラキは什分の一の律法の重要性と力について力強い証を述べています。この律法に従うと大きな祝福がもたらされます。

It is very sad that so many members of the Church allow Satan to deceive them. They allow Satan to cheat them out of the promised blessings that come from living the law of tithing.  Satan tricks them by making them think that they cannot pay their tithing. But you do not pay tithing with money. You pay tithing with faith. Great blessings come from paying tithing.

多くの教会員がサタンに欺かれるままにしているのは非常に悲しいことです。サタンは彼らをだまし、什分の一の律法を守ることで受けると約束された祝福を妨げています。サタンは什分の一が払えないと考えさせます。しかし、什分の一は金銭ではなく、信仰を納めるのです。什分の一を納めることによって大きな祝福がもたらされます。

Also in chapter 3, in the first few verses, Malachi prophecies of the restoration of the gospel in the last days.  He tells us the “the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple”.  This prophecy was fulfilled when the Lord appeared in the Kirtland temple on April 3, 1836 (see Doctrine & Covenants Section 110).

また、第3章の最初の数節で、末日に起こる福音の回復に関するマラキの預言があります。彼は、「またあなたがたが求める所の主は、たちまちその宮に来くる」と語っています。この預言は，主が1836年4月3日にカートランド神殿に現れたときに成就しました。（教義と聖約第110章を参照）

Finally, in the very last verses of the Old Testament, Malachi prophecies about the coming of Elijah.  The prophet Elijah was to restore the keys of the sealing power of the priesthood.  The restoration of the sealing keys opened the way for temple and family history work to begin (the visitation of Elijah is also recorded in Section 110 of the Doctrine & Covenants).

最後に、旧約聖書の終わりで、マラキはエリヤの訪れについて預言しています。預言者エリヤは，神権の結び固めの力の鍵を回復することになっていました。結び固めの鍵の回復により，神殿と家族歴史の業が始まる道が開かれました。（エリヤの訪れは教義と聖約第110章にも記録されています）

It is interesting that these 2 verses are so important that they are contained in all four of the Standard Works.  They are recorded in the Bible, here in Malachi.  They are recorded in the Book of Mormon, in 3rd Nephi, when the Savior teaches the people about important scriptures that they did not have.  They are also recorded in the very first revelation in the Doctrine & Covenants (Section 2 is actually the first revelation, given in 1823.  Section 1 was not given until 1831).  It is recorded in the Pearl of Great Price, given by Moroni during his visits to the Prophet Joseph Smith.

President Nelson has taught us that the greatest work happening today is the gathering of Israel.  This great work of gathering is made possible by the restoration of the sealing keys by the prophet Elijah.  

ネルソン大管長は、今日起きている最大の業はイスラエルの集合であると教えています。この集合の偉大な業は、預言者エリヤによる結び固めの鍵の回復によって可能になりました。

With the restoration of those keys, temple work could begin.  Now it was possible for families to be sealed together as eternal families.  Now it was possible for those who have died without a knowledge of the gospel to receive all the blessings of the Holy Temple.  Now it was possible for us to stand as proxy for our ancestors, helping them to receive the ordinances of salvation.

それらの鍵が回復し、神殿の業を進みはじめました。家族が永遠の家族として結び固められるようになりました。福音を知らずに亡くなった人々が、聖なる神殿のすべての祝福を受けることができるようになりました。今や私たちは先祖の身代わりとして、先祖が救いの儀式を受けるのを助けることができるようになりました。

Great are the words of Malachi.

マラキの言葉は偉大です。

As we go through this next week, let’s ponder the principles and doctrines we have learned this year, as we have studied the Old Testament.  Let’s remember the gospel is not something new, but has been on the earth since the days of Adam.  Let’s remember the teachings of the prophet Malachi about the importance of living the law of tithing.  Let’s obey that law and be worthy to receive all the promised blessings associated with that principle.  Let’s also remember the restoration of the sealing keys by the prophet Elijah.  Let’s do our best to attend the Temple as often as our circumstances permit.
