わが思いは、あなたがたの思いとは異なり、わが道は、あなたがたの道とは異なっていると主は言われる。天が地より高いように、わが道は、あなたがたの道より高く、わが思いは、あなたがたの思いよりも高い。

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways, saith the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.  Isaiah 55:8-9

As we continue our study of the book of Isaiah, we quickly find that it is full of powerful scriptures.  Many of these scriptures are familiar to us.  Many of the writers of the Book of Mormon quoted extensively from the writings of Isaiah.

Perhaps more than any other Old Testament prophet, the prophet Isaiah wrote about the Savior.  The book of Isaiah is filled with prophecies about Jesus Christ.  This may be the reason that Isaiah’s writings were so important to many people, including the Book of Mormon writers and the writers of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

おそらく他のどの旧約聖書の預言者よりも、イザヤは救い主について書いています。イザヤ書には、イエス・キリストに関する預言が多くあります。これがモルモン書や死海文書の著者を含む、多くの人々にとってイザヤの著作が非常に重要だった理由かもしれません。

In this particular verse, we are reminded that the Lord is in charge.  He knows the beginning from the ending.  His views are eternal in scope, unlike our limited mortal views.

この聖句は、主が責任を負っておられることを思い起こさせます。主は始めから終わりまでご存じです。私たち人間の限られた視点とは異なり、主の視点は永遠なのです。

This is an important principle to keep in mind when we pray for guidance.  Sometimes, we think we know what is best.  We think we have the right answer.  We fast and pray for guidance, assuming that our choice will be confirmed.

これは、導きを求めて祈るときに心に留めておくべき重要な原則です。私たちは何が最善かを知っていると思ったり、正しい答えを持っていると考えるときがあります。自分の選択が当然確認されると信じ、断食して導きを求めて祈ります。

However, there are times when the answer we receive is completely different than the answer we thought we would get.  This can be a trial of our faith.  Do we follow the counsel of the Lord, or do we go ahead with the choice we think is correct?

しかし、私たちが思っていた答えとはまったく違う答えが返ってくることがあります。これが私たちの信仰の試練となる場合があります。私たちは主の勧告に従いますか、それとも自分の思いで前進しますか？

Or, there may be times when we don’t receive an answer at all, at least not in our desired timeframe.  We always want an immediate solution to our problems and challenges.  There are times, though, when we need to learn something through a trial.  

また、自分が期待する時間内に、答えが来ない場合があります。私たちは常に、問題やチャレンジに対する解決策がすぐに来て欲しいと思っています。とはいえ，試練を通して何かを学ばなければならない時もあります。

The Lord gives us time to learn as we pass through a trial.  If the trial were taken from us as soon as we prayed about it, we would not have the opportunity we need to learn and to grow.

主は試練を乗り越えるために、私たちに学ぶ時間を与えてくださいます。もし試練について祈った途端に試練が私たちから奪われていたら、私たちは学びそして成長するために必要な機会を得られないでしょう。

We are sometimes like a little child, who thinks that there would be nothing better than to eat chocolate ice cream all day long, every day.  A wise parent knows that eating chocolate ice cream every day will not be best for the child.  Even though the child may be angry and cry, the loving parent knows what is best.

私たちは時々、チョコアイスを毎日、しかも一日中食べることが最高だと考える小さな子供のような時があります。賢明な親は、毎日チョコアイスを食べることが子供にとって最善ではないことを知っています。子供が怒ったり泣いたりしても、愛情深い親は何が最善かをよく熟知しています。

The Lord knows what is best for us.  His ways are higher than our ways, and his thoughts higher than our thoughts.  He can see into the future and knows what our capabilities and potentials are.  He knows how to help us learn the lessons we were sent here on earth to learn.

主は私たちにとって何が最善かをご存知です。主の道は私たちの道よりも高く、主の思いは私たちの思いよりも高いのです。主は未来を見通すことができ、私たちの能力と可能性をご存知です。私たちが学ぶためにこの地上に送られ、レッスンを学ぶために私たちを助ける方法を主はよくご存じです。

There are many lessons that we need to learn while we are here on the earth.  The Lord always gives us the opportunity to learn those lessons in the easiest way possible.  However, when we reject the easy way, the Lord has no choice but to let us learn that lesson in a more difficult and sometimes more painful way.  It is up to us, whether we want to learn the easy way or the hard way.

この地上にいる間に学ばなければならないレッスンはたくさんあります。主はいつも私たちにこれらのレッスンをできるだけ簡単な方法で学ぶ機会を与えてくださいます。しかし、私たちが簡単な方法を拒否するとき、主は私たちがそのレッスンをより難しく、時にはより痛みを伴う方法で学ばせるしかありません。簡単な方法で学ぶか難しい方法で学ぶかは、私たち次第です。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that it is much easier and much less painful if we follow the counsel of the Lord.  Let’s remember that his ways are higher than our ways, and his thoughts are higher than our thoughts.  Let’s counsel with the Lord in all things and seek to walk in his paths.

主の勧告に従えば、より容易になり痛みも軽減されることを覚えて新しい週を過ごしましょう。主の道は私たちの道よりも高く、主の思いは私たちの思いよりも高いことを忘れないでください。すべてのことについて主と相談し、主の道を歩むよう努めましょう。
