しかし主を待ち望む者は新たなる力を得、わしのように翼をはって、のぼることができる。走っても疲れることなく、歩いても弱ることはない。イザヤ４０：３１

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary and walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31

The book of Isaiah is full of prophecies about the Savior and about the Restoration of the gospel in the latter-days.  As we read Isaiah, much of it sounds very familiar to us.  We find the same phrases and teachings in Isaiah as we find in our day.  

イザヤ書には、救い主と末日の福音の回復に関する預言がたくさんあります。イザヤ書には、私たちにとても馴染みのある教えが多くあります。今日私たちの時代でもイザヤ書にある教えが多く見られます。

This is a great testimony to us that the gospel is not just something for our day.  The gospel is eternal and has been on the earth since the days of Adam.  Sadly, because of the wickedness of the people in various times in the past, the gospel had to be taken from the earth.  In our day, as foretold by Isaiah, the gospel was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith.  It will never be taken from the earth again.

これは、福音が私たちの時代だけのものではないことを証しています。福音は永遠であり、アダムの時代から地上にありました。悲しいことに、過去のさまざまな時代の人々の邪悪さのために、福音は地上から取り去られました。イザヤが預言したように、預言者ジョセフ・スミスを通して現代に福音が回復されました。二度と地上から取り去られることはありません。

This particular verse from Isaiah is interesting.  We can literally see the fulfillment of this prophecy in our own time.

Perhaps the greatest example of this scripture is President Russell M. Nelson.  Although in his late 90’s, he still has the physical strength and the mental ability to serve as the prophet of God.  How many other men at his age are capable of such strenuous activity?  How many other men at his age are capable of teaching the word of God to millions of people?  How many other men at his age are able to travel all around the world, bringing the light of the gospel to people in many lands?

おそらくこの聖句の最もすばらしい実例はラッセル・M・ネルソン大管長です。90 代後半とはいえ、まだ神の預言者として仕えるだけの体力と精神力を備えています。彼の年齢で、このような精力的な活動ができる男性が他に何人いるでしょうか? 彼の年齢で、何百万人もの人々に神の言葉を教えることができる人が他に何人いるでしょうか? 彼の年齢で、世界中を旅して多くの国の人々に福音の光をもたらすことができる人が他に何人いるでしょうか?

It is not just President Nelson alone.  All of the members of the First Presidency and of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles are in their late 70’s or 80’s.  They all have very demanding schedules, traveling throughout the world, overseeing the work of the Lord, preaching and testifying of our Savior Jesus Christ.

ネルソン大管長だけではありません。大管長会と十二使徒定員会の会員は全員、70 代後半か 80 代です。彼らは皆、世界中を旅し、主の業を管理し、説教し、救い主イエス・キリストについて証しするなど、非常に忙しいスケジュールを持っています。

This same miracle can be seen in the lives of many members of the Church, both brothers and sisters.  At an age when the world views them as “old and useless”, these faithful brothers and sisters valiantly continue to serve the Lord.

これと同じ奇跡が、多くの教会員の兄弟姉妹の中に見られます。世が彼らを「老いて役立たず」とみなす時代にあっても、これら忠実な兄弟姉妹は勇敢に主に仕え続けています。

How can men and women of any age, whether young, middle-aged, or old, do all this?

老若男女を問わず、どのようしてそうした行いができるでしょうか?

As the prophet Isaiah taught us many centuries ago, the Lord will renew their strength.  Those who are faithful receive blessings from the Lord that make all this possible.  

預言者イザヤが何世紀も前に私たちに教えたように、主は彼らの力を新たにされます。忠実な人は、主から祝福を受け、これらすべてを可能にします。

Many of these same blessings and promises are contained in the revelation we refer to as “The Word of Wisdom”.  In that revelation, another prophet of the Lord uses the same phrases as did the prophet Isaiah.  We are promised in the Word of Wisdom that, if we are faithful and obedient, we too “shall run and not be weary and walk and not faint”.

この祝福と約束の多くは、私たちが「知恵の言葉」と呼ぶ啓示に含まれています。その啓示の中で、他の預言者が預言者イザヤと同じ言葉を使っています。私たちは知恵の言葉の中で，忠実で従順であるなら，「走っても疲れることがなく，歩いても弱ることはない」と約束されています。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember the promises made by prophets of the Lord that we can be strengthened and our bodies renewed.  Let’s remember that the Lord will bless all those who serve in his kingdom.  Let’s remember that the gospel, its principles, and blessings are eternal.  Let’s remember that it is though our own obedience that we obtain these great blessings.

新しい週が始まります。私たちは強められ、体が新たになるという主の預言者たちの約束を忘れないで過ごしましょう。主はご自分の王国で仕えるすべての人を祝福してくださいます。福音とその原則，祝福は永遠であることを忘れないでください。これらの大いなる祝福を受けるのは、私たち自身の従順さによるものであることを覚えていてください。
