主の山に登るべき者はだれか。その聖所に立つべき者はだれか。手が清く、心にいさぎよい者、その魂がむなしい事に望みをかけない者、偽って誓わない者こそ、その人である。詩篇２４：３−４
Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
Psalms 24:3-4
As we begin our study of the book of Psalms, it might be helpful to understand a little about the history of the book. A psalm is a poem. Many of the psalms appear to have been set to music, just like our modern-day hymns.
詩篇の書を研究し始めると、この書の歴史を少し理解することができるかもしれません。詩篇は詩です。詩篇の多くは現代の賛美歌のように、音楽に合わせて歌われていたようです。
It is interesting that Christianity places a much higher importance on the book of Psalms than does the Jewish religion. In the New Testament, there are 283 direct quotations of scriptures from the Old Testament. Of these, 116 are from the book of Psalms.
キリスト教がユダヤ教よりも詩篇の書をはるかに重視しているのは興味深いことです。新約聖書には、旧約聖書から直接引用された箇所が283あります。これらのうち 116 は詩篇の書からのものです。
While there are 150 psalms in our Old Testament, it is not clear who wrote all of them. It is believed that king David wrote at least 73 of the psalms, but there is no agreement as to who wrote some of the others.
私たちの旧約聖書の詩篇には150篇がありますが、誰がそれらを書いたかは明らかではありません。ダビデ王は少なくとも73の詩篇を書いたと信じられていますが、他の詩篇を誰が書いたのかは明けらかではありません。
Some of the psalms sound very similar to the psalm of Nephi, recorded in the 4th chapter of 2 Nephi. Both David and Nephi express great sorrow for their many failings and sins. Many of the psalms have a similar theme. David also offers praises to the Lord in many of his psalms.

Some of the psalms have messages that sound very familiar to us. The first verses of the very first psalm remind us that we need to stay on the covenant path. In verses 4 and 5 of Psalm 8, we are reminded how insignificant mankind is. This is the same message Abraham gives us.
詩篇の中に、私たちにとても馴染みのあるメッセージが含まれています。詩篇の最初にある節で、私たちが聖約の道にとどまる必要があることを思い起こさせています。詩篇8篇の4節と5節では、人がいかに取るに足らないかを思い起こさせてくれます。アブラハムも同じメッセージを私たちに与えています。
In Psalm 24, we are taught about personal worthiness. This brings to mind our duty to keep the commandments. It reminds us of our duty to be clean and pure. It reminds us of our duty to attend the Temple.
詩篇24篇では、私たちに個人的な価値について教えています。これは、戒めを守るという私たちの義務を思い起こさせてくれます。それは手が清く、心にいさぎよい者であるという私たちの義務を思い起こさせています。また私たちに神殿に参入する義務を思い起こさせています。
Throughout the scriptures, the Temple is often referred to as being on the top of a mountain. The image of the Temple being on a high place symbolizes our need to improve, to struggle, to move up above the natural man. Isaiah tells us that the mountain of the Lord house will be established in the top of the mountains and all nations will come to it (Isaiah 2:2).
聖典全体を通して、神殿はしばしば山のかしらにあると言われています。神殿が高い場所にあるというイメージは、私たちが進歩改善し、苦労しながらも前進し、生まれながらの人を克服する必要があることを象徴しています。イザヤは、主の家の山は山のかしらに建てられ、すべての国民がそこにやって来ると述べています（イザヤ2：2）。
The psalmist asks the question, who will be worthy to go to the Temple?
詩篇の作者は、誰が神殿に行く価値があるのかと問いかけています。
The answer is the person who has clean hands and a pure heart. The answer is the person who keeps the commandments of the Lord. The answer is the person who tells the truth and is honest.
答えは、手が清く、心にいさぎよい者です。主の戒めを守り、真実を語り、正直である人です。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember the messages that are presented as poetry in the book of Psalms. Let’s remember that the principles of the gospel are eternal. Those same doctrines that are taught in the book of Psalms are still being taught today by prophets and apostles. Let’s remember to have clean hands and a pure heart. Let’s do our best to be worthy to “ascend the hill of the Lord”.
