そして言った、「わたしは裸で母の胎を出た。また裸でかしこに帰ろう。主が与え、主が取られたのだ。主のみ名はほむべきかな」。すべてこの事においてヨブは罪を犯さず、また神に向かって愚かなことを言わなかった。ヨブ記１:２１−２２

And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away.  In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.  Job 1:21-22

The book of Job tells us about the trials and sufferings of a righteous man named Job.  Job was a successful and wealthy man.  He had a large family, many flocks and herds, and was respected by his friends.  He had a good life and was righteous.

ヨブ記は、ヨブという義人の試練と苦しみについて語っています。ヨブは成功を納めた裕福な人でした。彼には大家族がいて、多くの家畜を持っており、友人からも尊敬されていました。彼は良い人生を送り、義にかなった人でした。

Satan told the Lord that the only reason Job was righteous was because he had received so many blessings.  Satan said that if Job lost all his property and wealth, he would become a sinner.  The Lord knew that Job was a righteous man and that he would not give in to Satan’s temptations.  He allowed Satan to tempt and to try Job.

サタンは、ヨブが義人だった唯一の理由は、非常に多くの祝福を受けたからだと主に言いました。サタンは、ヨブがすべての財産と富を失った場合、罪人になるだろうと言いました。主はヨブが義人であり、サタンの誘惑に屈しないことを知っていました。主はサタンがヨブを誘惑し、試みることを許されました。

In one day, Job lost all of his flocks and herds.  He lost all of this wealth.  He even lost all of his children.  Yet Job did not give in to temptation.

ある日、ヨブは家畜の群れをすべて失いました。富もすべて失いました。子供もすべて失いました。それでもヨブは誘惑に屈しませんでした。

Satan then caused Job to have a very painful disease and to suffer greatly.  Satan was sure that the suffering would make Job curse God.  Job suffered greatly with the disease, but he would not give in to temptation.

その後、サタンはヨブに苦痛を伴う病気を負わせ、ヨブは大変苦しみました。サタンはその苦しみによってヨブが神をのろうと確信していました。ヨブはこの病気で大いに苦しみましたが、誘惑に負けませんでした。

Satan then made all of Job’s friends turn against him.  His friends, who had been helping him through all of these trials, now told Job that all of these things were because Job was a sinful man.  They told him that God was cursing him.  They told him it was God who had sent all these terrible trials to him.  But even without anyone else to help him or to offer him a kind word, Job did not give in to temptation.

それからサタンはヨブの友達全員を彼に背かせました。それまでの試練を通して彼を助けてきた友人たちは、今やヨブに、これらすべてのことはヨブが罪深い人だったからだと言いました。彼らは、神が彼を呪っていると言いました。彼らは、これらすべての恐ろしい試練を送ったのは神であると言いました。しかし、彼を助けたり、親切な言葉を掛けてくれる者がいなくても、ヨブは誘惑に負けませんでした。

Through all of his great pains, suffering, and trials, Job stayed on the covenant path.  He knew that the Lord was in control of all things.  He knew that we grow when we struggle with trials.  He knew that the Lord would not abandon him.  Job did not give in to Satan’s temptations, even in the worst days of his trials.

ヨブは、大きな苦しみと試練を通して、聖約の道を歩み続けました。主がすべてのものを管理支配していることを知っていました。彼は私たちが試練に苦しむときに私たちは成長することを知っていました。主が彼を見捨てないことを知っていました。ヨブは、最悪の試練の日でさえ、サタンの誘惑に屈しませんでした。

The message of the book of Job is simply this. Like Job, will we continue to hold to the iron rod even in the midst of our own trials?

ヨブ記のメッセージはこれなのです。ヨブのように、私たちは自分たちの試練の中でも鉄の棒を握り続けますか？

We all have our own trials and sufferings.  While none of us have the same terrible trials as Job, our own trials can be just as difficult for us to withstand.  

私たちは皆、試練と苦しみを経験します。誰もヨブほどひどい試練は経験しませんが、私たち自身が受ける試練は同じくらい耐え難いものかもしれません。

Sometimes, Satan makes the things of this world seem very important.  Things like a big house, a fancy car, lots of new clothes, or plenty of money are all good things.  But, as Job reminds us, we brought nothing with us into this world and we cannot take anything with us when we leave this world.  

時々、サタンはこの世のものを非常に重要だと思わせます。大きな家、高級車、たくさんの新しい服、またはたくさんのお金などはすべて良いものです。しかし、ヨブが私たちに思い起こさせるように、私たちは何も持たずにこの世に生まれて、何も持たずにこの世を離れるのです。

The only thing that we will be able to take with us is our testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ.  

私たちが持っていくことができるのは、救い主イエス・キリストについての証だけです。

When we return to the Spirit world, and it is an absolute guarantee that every one of us will someday, it will not matter how big our house on earth was, or how much money we had in our bank account, or how many shoes we had in our closet.  The only thing that will matter is whether or not we kept the commandments of the Lord.  

私たちが霊界に戻るとき、家の大きさや銀行口座の残高、靴の数は無意味な事をいつか誰もが確かに知ることになります。最も大切なのは、私たちが主の戒めを守ったかどうかだけです。

As we go through this next week, let’s take time to re-evaluate our priorities.  Let’s see if we are allowing Satan to trick us by tempting us to put worldly things above heavenly things.  Let’s make adjustments in our lives, if we need to.  Let’s focus our time and our efforts on doing good to others, in helping those in need, in being good examples of a follower of Jesus Christ.  

新しい週が始まります。優先順位を見直す時間をとってみましょう。サタンは私たちに天の事柄以上にこの世の事柄を優先するように誘惑します。私たちはサタンの誘惑を許していないか考えてみましょう？私たちの生活を必要に応じて調整しましょう。私たちの時間と努力を、周りの人に善を行うこと、困っている人を助けること、イエス・キリストの従者の良い模範となることに尽力しましょう。
