そしてバビロンの王はエホヤキンの父の兄弟マッタニヤを王としてエホヤキンに代え、名をゼデキヤと改めた。列王記下２４：１７

And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his father’s brother king in his stead and changed his name to Zedekiah.  2 Kings 24:17

The book of 2 Kings tells the sad story of a wicked and rebellious Israel.  Time after time, the children of Israel are taken captive by other nations because of their rejection of the gospel and their great wickedness.  

列王記下は、邪悪で反抗的なイスラエルの哀しい物語について書かれています。イスラエルの子供たちは、福音を拒み、邪悪なことをしたために他の国々に捕らえられることが何度もありました。

There were a few righteous kings during this time, but the majority of the kings led the people to do wicked things.  It sounds very much like the record of the Jaredites, after they arrived in the promised land.

この間、義しい王は幾人かいましたが、殆どの王は人々を邪悪なことをするように導きました。彼らが約束の地に到着した後の事柄は、ヤレド人の記録にとてもよく似ています。

Finally, about 600 BC, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, came to battle with Jerusalem.  He attacked Jerusalem and captured the city.  He took all of the treasure from the land, including all of the golden items that had been made for the temple in the days of Solomon.  He also captured all of the princes, the craftsmen, the warriors, and other leaders and took all of them back to Babylon.

紀元前600年頃、バビロンの王ネブカデネザルがエルサレムと戦うために来ました。彼はエルサレムを攻撃し、街を占領しました。ソロモンの時代に神殿のために作られたすべての黄金の品物など、土地からすべての宝を奪って行きました。また、すべての王子、職人、戦士、および他の指導者を捕らえ、彼らすべてをバビロンに連れていきました。

After he had captured Jerusalem, he appointed Mattaniah to be the new king of Jerusalem.  Nebuchadnezzar changed the name of Mattaniah to Zedekiah.  

エルサレムを占領した後、彼はマタニアをエルサレムの新しい王に任命しました。ネブカデネザルはマタニアの名前をゼデキヤに変えました。

Wait, that name sounds familiar.  Where have we heard that name before?

For it came to pass in the commencement of the first year of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah, (my father Lehi having dwelt at Jerusalem in all his days) 1 Nephi 1:4

第1ニーファイ1:4には「なぜなら、ユダの王ゼデキヤの治世の最初の年の初めに、（父リーハイはずっとエルサレムに住んでいた)」と書かれています。

This Zedekiah, who was appointed king by Nebuchadnezzar, was king when the Book of Mormon story begins.  Lehi and his family lived in Jerusalem during the reign of Zedekiah.  It was a time of great political trouble.  Lehi is told to take his family and leave Jerusalem because it was going to be destroyed.  Lehi was obedient to the commandments of the Lord and left the city with his family.

ネブカデネザルによって王に任命されたこのゼデキヤは、モルモン書の物語が始まるときに王でした。リーハイと彼の家族は、ゼデキヤの治世にエルサレムに住んでいました。それは大きな政治的問題がある時代でした。リーハイは家族を連れてエルサレムを去るように言われました。エルサレムが破壊されようとしていたからです。リーハイは主の戒めに従順であり、家族と共に町を去りました。

After reaching the promised land, Lehi is shown in vision the destruction of Jerusalem.  

約束の地に到着した後、リーハイはエルサレムの破壊を示現で見ました。

This event is also recorded in chapter 25 of 2 Kings. Because the people in Jerusalem rebelled against Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar sends his army back and totally destroys Jerusalem.  All of the people are taken captive and the temple was burned with fire.  

この出来事は列王記下の第25章にも記録されています。エルサレムの民がバビロンに反抗したので、ネブカデネザルは軍隊を送りエルサレムを完全に破壊しました。全員が捕らえられ、神殿は火で焼かれました。

The sons of Zedekiah are all killed (except for Mulek, who was a baby) and Zedekiah himself is taken as a captive back to Babylon.

ゼデキヤの息子は皆殺され（赤ん坊だったミュレクを除いて）、ゼデキヤは捕らえられてバビロンに連れていかれました。

All this happened just as the Lord had told Lehi it would.  

これはすべて、主がリーハイに言われたとおりに起こりました。

As we read the events is 2 Kings, we can see very clearly the results of disobeying the commandments.  Israel was given many opportunities to repent and to return to the Lord.  But, almost from the time they were led out of Egypt, they refused to keep the commandments.  The great blessings that had been promised to them, based on their obedience, were lost.  Instead of blessings, they receive punishments for their sins.  

列王記下の出来事を読むと、戒めに従わなかった結果をはっきりと知ることができます。イスラエルには悔い改めて主に立ち返る多くの機会が与えられました。しかし、彼らがエジプトから導き出されて以来、ほとんど戒めを守ることを拒みました。従順さに基づいて彼らに約束された大きな祝福は失われたのでした。祝福の代わりに、彼らは自分の罪に対する罰を受けました。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember the things that we have studied about the children of Israel during the period of history recorded in 2 Kings.  Let’s remember the great blessings that Israel lost by their disobedience.  Let’s also remember that, in every case, the Lord sent prophets to them, to warn them of their sins and to call them to repentance.  Let’s learn from their mistakes.  Let’s be wiser than they were.  Let’s do our best to keep the commandments of the Lord and to be worthy of the promised blessings.

新しい週が始まります。列王記下に記録された時代にイスラエルの民に起こった出来事を思い起こしてみましょう。イスラエルが不従順によって失った大きな祝福を忘れないようにしましょう。また、どのような場合でも、主は彼らに預言者を送り、彼らの罪について警告し、悔い改めを呼びかけたことを覚えていましょう。彼らの過ちから学びましょう。彼らよりも賢くなりましょう。主の戒めを守り、約束された祝福を受けるにふさわしくあるよう最善を尽くしましょう。
