And after many days, an angel of the Lord appeared unto Adam, saying: Why doest thou offer sacrifices unto the Lord? And Adam said unto him: I know not, save the Lord commanded me. And the angel spake, saying: This thing is a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of grace and truth. Wherefore, thou shalt do all that thou doest in the name of the Son, and thou shalt call upon God in the name of the Son forevermore. Moses 5:6-8
The gospel is not new. It did not begin in 1830 or in 1820. The gospel has been on the earth since the days of Adam. Adam and Eve received their first instructions while they were still in the Garden of Eden.
福音は新しいものではありません。1830年にも1820年にも始まったものではありません。福音はアダムの時代から地上にありました。アダムとイブは、まだエデンの園にいる間に最初の教えを受けました。
After the Fall, Adam and Eve could no longer talk directly with God. Heavenly Father wanted Adam and Eve and all their children to be happy. He knew that for us to be happy, we must obey the commandments.
堕落後、アダムとイブは神と直接話すことができなくなりました。天父はアダムとイブとそのすべての子供たちが幸せになることを望んでおられ、私たちが幸せになるためには戒めに従わなければならないことをご存知でした。
Before we could obey the commandments, we must know what the commandments are. So Heavenly Father sent his angels to Adam and Eve, to teach them about the great Plan of Salvation, or Plan of Happiness.
戒めに従うためには戒めが何であるかを知る必要があります。そこで天父はアダムとイブに天使を遣わし、彼らに偉大な救いの計画、または幸福の計画について教えました。
In this scripture, we learn even Adam did not understand everything about the gospel. He had been commanded to offer sacrifices. He did not understand why he needed to offer sacrifices, but because he had faith in Jesus Christ, he obeyed that commandment.
この聖句から、アダムでさえ福音についてすべてを理解していなかったことが分かります。彼は犠牲を捧げるように命じられていました。なぜ犠牲をささげる必要があるのか理解していませんでしたが、イエス・キリストを信じていたので、その戒めに従いました。
We don’t know how long it was before an angel came to teach him, but it was “after many days”. Whether it was a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years is not important. What is important is that Adam obeyed the commandment even without knowing all the reasons why it was important.
天使が教えに来るまでにどれくらいの時間がかかったかはわかりませんが、それは「多くの日の後」でした。それが数週間、数ヶ月、あるいは数年であったかどうかは重要ではありません。大切なのは、アダムがそれが重要である理由をすべて知らなくても、戒めに従ったということです。
In our own day, we have prophets and apostles who teach us about the commandments. President Russell M. Nelson has taught us that the Restoration is process, not an event. The Lord continues to give instructions to the Prophet and the Apostles and they teach us.
私たちの時代には、戒めについて教えてくれる預言者や使徒がいます。ラッセル・M・ネルソン大管長は、回復は出来事ではなくプロセスであると教えてくれました。主は預言者と使徒たちに指示を与え続け、彼らは私たちに教えてくれます。
We do not always understand why we are asked to do something. We do not always understand why a commandment is important. We do not always understand why the Lord has given us a commandment.
私たちは何かをするように求められる理由をいつも理解しているわけではありません。私たちは戒めが重要である理由を常に理解しているわけではありません。主が戒めを与えてくださった理由を私たちはいつも理解しているわけではありません。
Just like Adam, we need to have faith. We need to have faith that President Nelson speaks for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We need to have faith that we will be happier if we keep the commandments.
アダムのように、私たちは信仰を持つ必要があります。ネルソン大管長が天父とイエス・キリストに代わって語っていることを信じる必要があります。戒めを守れば幸せになるという信仰が必要です。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember the example of Adam. Let’s remember that it is very important for us to keep all the commandments, even if we do not understand why it is important. Let’s remember that It is only through our Savior Jesus Christ that we can be happy. Let’s remember to pray always for guidance and instruction.
