Today we come to the start of a new year, a time of new beginnings. It is appropriate to stop and reflect back on the greatest “new beginning of all”, the creation of this earth. There are a number of accounts in the scriptures about the creation of this earth. Abraham and Moses both left us written accounts of the creation. Another account of the creation was in the Jaredite record, but Moroni says he did not include it in his abridgement.
新たな始まりである新年を迎えました。今一度、「すべての始まり」である大いなる地球の創造について振り返ってみるのもよいことでしょう。地球の創造について聖書には多くの記述があります。アブラハムとモーセは共に創造について解き明かし、その記録を私たちに残してくれました。創造についてもう一つの説明がヤレド人の記録にも残っていましたが、モロナイはそれを短くまとめた版には含めなかったと述べています。
Why was this earth created? Why are we here?
なぜこの地球が創造されたのでしょうか？なぜ私達はここにいるのでしょうか？
As the Lord told Moses, the work of the Lord is to “bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man”. In order for us to gain immortality and eternal life, we have to be tested and tried. We have to show Heavenly Father that we will obey his commandments by our own free will and choice.
主がモーセに言われたように、主の業は「人の不死不滅と永遠の命をもたらすこと」です。私たちが不死不滅と永遠の命を得るためには、私たちは試されなければなりません。私たちは自由意志と選択によって主の戒めに従うことを天父に示さなければなりません。
In order for us to be tested, there had to be a place created where we could undergo those tests and trials. Because of his great love for us, Heavenly Father created this earth. The purpose of this earth is to be a place where the spirit sons and daughters of Heavenly Father can come and be tested.
私たちが試しを受けるには、試練を経験できる場所が必要でした。天父は私たちに大きな愛を持っておられ、この地球を創造されました。この地球の目的は、天父の霊の息子、娘が試される場所とすることです。
In Abraham, in Moses, and in Genesis, we are taught about the creation. The scriptures do not tell us exactly how the creation happened. We know that our Savior Jesus Christ was given the assignment to create this earth. It is possible that many of the righteous spirits assisted with that work. It may have been that even you and I helped with parts of the creation.
アブラハム書、モーセ書、そして創世記で、私たちは創造について教えられています。聖典は、創造がどのように起こったかを明確には教えていません。救い主イエス・キリストがこの地球を創造する使命を与えられたことを私たちは知っています。多くの義しい霊がその業を助けたのかもしれません。あなたも創造の一部を手伝ったのかもしれません。
Whatever our role may have been, we should be very grateful that Heavenly Father loved us enough to create this world for us. Without this earth, we cannot progress and become like our heavenly parents. We cannot be tested. We cannot experience the trials of this life that help us increase our faith in Jesus Christ.
天父がこの世界を創造されたのは私たちをそれほど愛しておられたからです。そのことに私たちは感謝する必要があります。この地球がなければ、私たちは進歩できず、天の両親のようになることはできません。試しを受けることもできません。イエス・キリストへの信仰を深める助けとなるこの人生での試練を経験することはできません。
Think about the majesty of the creation. Think about the organization of the sun, the moon, the stars, and the planets. Think about the preparation of this earth to support human life.
創造の業の偉大なことを考えてください。太陽、月、星、惑星の構成を考えてみてください。人間の生命を維持するために地球が準備されたことを考えてください。
What a wonderful “new beginning”! What a great blessing for each of us!
なんと素晴らしい「新たな始まり」でしょう！ 私たち一人一人にとってなんとすばらしい祝福でしょう。
We should be very grateful to a loving Heavenly Father for the blessings of the creation. He sent us here to be happy. He wants us to all be happy forever. He knows that the only way we can be happy forever is to obey his commandments.
創造と言う祝福を愛する天父に感謝しなければなりません。天父は私たちが幸せになるためにここに送られました。天父は私たちが皆、永遠に幸せになることを望んでおられます。私たちが永遠に幸せになる唯一の方法は、天父の戒めに従うことであることを天父はご存知です。
In a very kind and loving way, he shows the way to happiness. The commandments are not given as punishment or to prevent us from being happy. The commandments are the sign posts that point to the covenant path, that point us to eternal happiness.
親切で愛のこもった方法で、天父は幸福への道を示しておられます。戒めは罰としてや幸せになるのを妨げるために与えられてはいません。戒めは私たちに永遠の幸福を示す聖約の道への標識です。
As we begin this new year, let’s remember the great miracle of the creation. Let’s remember why this earth was created. Let’s remember why we are here on earth. Let’s resolve to do our very best this year to keep the commandments, to stay on the covenant path, to earn our own eternal happiness.
新年を迎えました。創造の大いなる奇跡に心を向けてみましょう。この地球が創造された理由や、私たちが地球上にいる理由を深く考えてみましょう。今年は、戒めを守り、聖約の道を歩み続け、私たち自身の永遠の幸福を得るために最善を尽くすことを決意しましょう。
