And it came to pass that there was no darkness in all that night, but was as light as though it were mid-day. And it came to pass that the sun did rise in the morning again, according to its proper order; and they knew that it was the day that the Lord should be born, because of the sign which had been given. 3 Nephi 1:19
As we come into the Christmas season, our thoughts turn to the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With the rest of the Christian world, we review the testimonies and prophecies of the Old Testament prophets about Jesus Christ. We study and read aloud to our families the New Testament accounts of the birth of the Savior in Bethlehem.
クリスマスの季節になると、私たちは救い主であるイエス・キリストの誕生に想いを馳せます。キリスト教の世界では、旧約聖書の預言者が残したイエス・キリストについての証と預言を学びます。新約聖書にあるベツレヘムでの救い主の誕生について学んだり、家族に読んで聞かせます。
In addition to all these testimonies, we also have the testimonies of many Book of Mormon prophets. Beginning with Lehi, the Book of Mormon prophets all taught the Nephite and Lamanite people about the promised coming of the Savior.
これらすべての証に加えて、モルモン書には多くの預言者の証もあります。リーハイから始まり、モルモン書の預言者たちは皆、ニーファイ人とレーマン人に、約束された救い主の降臨について教えました。
In particular, Samuel, a Lamanite, told the Nephite people that the Savior would be born five years in the future. Samuel prophesied that there would be a day and a night and a day with no darkness. That miracle would be a sign to the Nephite and Lamanite people that the Savior had been born.
特に、レーマン人サムエルはニーファイ人に、救い主は５年後にお生まれになると伝えました。サムエルは、二昼一夜がまるで一日のようであって夜がないだろうと預言しました。その奇跡は、救い主の誕生についてニーファイ人とレーマン人へのしるしとなったのです。
Unfortunately, by the time 5 years had passed, most of the Nephites had become wicked. Some of them began to say that the 5 years had already passed and there had not been any sign given. These wicked people decided that, if the sign was not given by a certain day, all the people who believed in Jesus Christ would be killed.
残念ながら、５年が経たないうちに、ほとんどのニーファイ人は邪悪になりました。何人かは、すでに５年が経過し、何の兆しもなかったと言い始めました。これらの邪悪な人々は、もしそのしるしが特定の日までになければイエス・キリストを信じたすべての人々を殺すと決めました。
Today, we all look forward to Christmas with great excitement and joy. But what if you were one of those Nephites who believed in the prophesies about Jesus Christ? What would you be feeling as that fateful date approached? Would you have enough faith in Jesus Christ to withstand this trial? Or would you give up, leave the Church, and go over to the wicked people?
今日、私たちは皆、大きな興奮と喜びをもってクリスマスを待ち望んでいます。しかし、もしあなたがイエス・キリストについての預言を信じたニーファイ人の一人だったらどうでしょうか？その運命の日が近づいたとき、あなたはどう感じるでしょうか？この試練に耐えるのに十分なイエス・キリストへの信仰がありますか？それとも、あきらめて教会を去り、邪悪な人々に加わりますか？
As we know, on the very day the wicked people had set to kill all those who believed in Jesus Christ, the miraculous sign was given. There was a day and a night and a day without any darkness. The prophesy of Samuel was fulfilled, exactly as he said it would be.
私たちが知っているように、邪悪な人々がイエス・キリストを信じるすべての人々を殺そうとした、まさにその日に、奇跡的なしるしが与えられました。夜も暗くならない日がありました。サムエルの預言は言ったとおりに成就しました。
As we think about the many miracles of the Christmas story, the miracle of a day and a night and a day without darkness should be included. It is another testimony that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and that his birth was foretold, not only to the people in the Old Testament, but also to the Nephites and the Lamanites.
多くのクリスマスの物語の奇跡について考えるとき、二昼一夜がまるで一日のようであって夜がないと言う奇跡も含まれるべきです。イエス・キリストが世界の救い主であり、主の誕生が旧約聖書の人々だけでなく、ニーファイ人とレーマン人にも預言されていたことは、もう一つの証です。
It is another testimony that Heavenly Father loves all of his children and wants them all to believe in and to follow Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. It stands as a second witness of our Savior.
天父はすべての子供たちを愛し、すべての子供たちにイエス・キリストを信じて従うことを望んでおられることのもう一つの証です。モルモン書はイエス・キリストのもう一つの証です。それは私たちの救い主の二つ目の証です。
During this Christmas season, let’s remember the wonderful testimonies of Jesus Christ from the Book of Mormon prophets. Let’s remember that Heavenly Father loves all of his children and wants all of them to know about Jesus Christ. Let’s remember that the Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ. Let’s remember that it is only through the great Atonement of Jesus Christ that we can be saved.
このクリスマスの季節、モルモン書の預言者が残したイエス・キリストのすばらしい証に心を向けてみましょう。天父はすべての子供を愛し、すべての子供にイエス・キリストについて知ってもらいたいと望んでおられることを忘れないようにしましょう。モルモン書がイエス・キリストについて証していることを覚えていましょう。私たちが救われるのは、イエス・キリストの大いなる贖いを通してのみだということを忘れないでください。
