Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye are little children and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the Father hath in his own hands and prepared for you; And ye cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along.  The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours.  Doctrine & Covenants 78:17-18

In March of 1832, the Prophet Joseph Smith received Section 78 of the Doctrine and Covenants.  In this Section, the Lord commands the Prophet to establish a “storehouse for the poor”.  This was to be done so that the Saints would be equal in earthly things.  In verse 6, the Lord teaches us “for if ye are not equal in earthly things, ye cannot be equal in obtaining heavenly things”.

This was the beginning of the instructions given to the Church about being equal in all things.  Further revelations taught the Church about the law of consecration, about the United Order, about having all things in common.  

これは、すべてのことにおいて平等であるという教会に与えられた指示の始まりでした。さらに奉献の律法、共同制度について啓示が与えられ、すべてのものを共有することを教会に教えました。

As it happened, that the Saints were not able to live the law of consecration completely, the Lord gave us the law of tithing and of fast offerings instead.  These are the laws that we are to obey today.

その頃は、聖徒たちが奉献の律法を完全に従えなかったので、主は代わりに什分の一の律法と断食の律法を私たちに与えられました。これらは私たちが今日従っている律法です。

In this Section, the Lord also gives encouragement to the Saints by reminding them of the great blessings that will come to those who keep the commandments.  We are taught that great blessings have been prepared for us by the Father.  

この章では、主はまた、戒めを守る人々にもたらされる大いなる祝福を思い起こさせ聖徒たちを励ましておられます。私たちには天父によって用意された大いなる祝福があると教えられています。

However, the Lord also points out that we are still children and do not understand all things yet.  

しかし、私たちはまだ子供であり、まだすべてを理解しているわけではないと主は指摘しておられます。

Why does the Lord say that we are still children?

なぜ主は私たちがまだ子供であると言われるのでしょうか？

Just as a child has only a small understanding of the real world and all the things that happen in that world, we have only a small understanding of the blessings the Lord has prepared for those who keep his commandments.

子供が現実の世界とこの世界で起こるすべてについて少ししか理解していないように、私たちは主が戒めを守る人々のために用意された祝福について少ししか理解していません。

Many great and wonderful things will be revealed by the Lord in the future.  Our duty is to develop the faith necessary to receive those revelations and to be prepared for the things to come.  The Lord has promised to lead us along and to teach and guide us as we press forward with faith.

将来、多くの偉大で素晴らしいことが主によって明らかにされることでしょう。私たちの義務は、それらの啓示を受け、来ることに備えるために必要な信仰を育むことです。主は私たちを導き、信仰をもって前進するときに私たちを教え、導くことを約束されました。

If we are faithful, we will be given the “riches of eternity”.  We do not as yet understand what all those blessings will be, but we do know that the blessings will be wonderful beyond our ability to even imagine now.

忠実であるならば、私たちは「永遠の富」を与えられます。私たちにはそれらの祝福が何なのか分かりませんが、それは想像を超える素晴らしい祝福になることを知っています。

Let us, like good children, learn all that we can about the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Let us grow in faith and in testimony.  Let us mature into stalwart “adults” in the Kingdom of God.

良い子供のように、イエス・キリストの福音について私たちができることをすべて学びましょう。信仰と証を育みましょう。神の王国で堅固な「大人」に成長しましょう。
