And this is the gospel, the glad tidings, which the voice out of the heavens bore record unto us — That he came into the world, even Jesus, to be crucified for the world, and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse it from all unrighteousness;  Doctrine & Covenants 76:40-41

In January of 1832, as recorded in Section 73 of the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord instructed Joseph Smith to continue with the new translation of the Bible.  As he worked to fulfil this assignment, the Prophet began to clearly understand that many important doctrines had been lost from the Bible.

In particular, the Prophet understood that, if all men are rewarded according to their deeds while in the flesh, there must be more than one kingdom in Heaven.  As the Prophet and Sidney Rigdon pondered over these things, a great and marvelous vision was opened to them.

Section 76 is one of the most powerful sections of the Doctrine and Covenants.  It contains important truths that had been lost from the earth.   In this Section, the doctrine of the three degrees of glory are clearly taught.   

76章は、教義と聖約の中でも最も力強い章です。そこには地上から失われた重要な真理が含まれています。この章では、3つの栄光の教義が明確に教えられています。

Also included in this Section is one of the great testimonies given by the Prophet of our Savior Jesus Christ.  As this vision was given to them, the Prophet and Sidney Rigdon saw the heavens open and the Savior sitting on the right hand of the Father, surrounded by the holy angels.

この章には、救い主イエス・キリストの預言者によって与えられたすばらしい証も含まれています。この啓示が彼らに与えられたとき、預言者とシドニー・リグドンは天が開かれ、救い主が聖なる天使たちに囲まれて天父の右に座っておられるのを見ました。

Another important doctrine included in this Section is a definition of the gospel.  What is the “gospel”?  How do you explain it?  What does it mean?

The gospel is “glad tidings”.  It is the joyful news that we can be saved from sin.  It is the joyful news that we are not lost forever.  It is the joyful news that Jesus Christ came into the world to be crucified and to bear the sins of the world.

福音は「喜びのおとずれ」です。私たちが罪から救われることができるのは嬉しい知らせです。私たちが永遠に失われることがないのは嬉しい知らせです。イエス・キリストが十字架につけられ、世の罪を負わされるためにこの世に来られたのは嬉しい知らせです。

The Atonement of our Savior is the greatest event in this mortal history of this world.  It is the rock upon which we can build our own sure testimony.  It is the “glad tidings” of the gospel.

救い主の贖罪は、この死すべき世の歴史上最も素晴らしい出来事です。私たちが確かな証を築くことができる岩なのです。それは福音の「喜びのおとずれ」です。

It is the Atonement of Jesus Christ that allows us to have hope.  It is the Atonement of Jesus Christ that allows us to repent.  It is the Atonement of Jesus Christ that allows us to become clean and to return to our Heavenly parents.

イエス・キリストの贖罪は私たちに希望を与えてくれます。私たちに悔い改めを可能にしてくれます。イエス・キリストの贖罪により、私たちは聖くなり、天の両親のもとに戻れるのです。

Nothing else compares with the importance of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  Nothing else provides any hope.  Nothing else has the power to save us.

イエス・キリストの贖罪の重要性に匹敵するものは他にありません。希望を与えるものや、私たちを救う力を持っているものは他にはありません。

We need to use the Atonement in our lives each day.  We need to examine our own lives and repent of our sins each day.  We need to focus on the hope of a glorious resurrection.  We need to look to our Savior in all things.

私たちは贖罪を毎日の生活の中で使う必要があります。毎日自分の生活を吟味し、罪を悔い改める必要があります。私たちは栄光に満ちた復活への希望に焦点を合わせる必要があり、すべてのことにおいて救い主に目を向ける必要があります。

As we go through this next week, let’s focus on the Atonement of our Savior.  Let’s remember to show gratitude for his great sacrifice for us.  Let’s remember that it is only through the Atonement that we can have hope.  Let’s remember that daily repentance brings us closer to God.  Let’s do all that we can do to become a little better each day.
