Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me; for his words ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.  Doctrine & Covenants 21:4-5

On the 6th day of April, 1830, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was organized for the first time in this dispensation.  As required by the laws of the United States, 6 men agreed to the formation of a new church.  

1830年4月6日、末日聖徒イエス・キリスト教会がこの神権時代に初めて組織されました。アメリカ合衆国の法律で定められているように、6人が新しい教会の設立に同意しました。

After centuries of darkness, the true Church of Jesus Christ was once again upon the earth.  

何世紀にもわたる暗黒時代の後、真のイエス・キリスト教会が再び地上に誕生しました。

At that meeting, the six new members of the Church voted to accept and sustain Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery as the presiding officers of the Church.  

その集会で、6人の新しい教会員は、ジョセフ・スミスとオリバー・カウドリを教会の管理役員として受け入れ、支持することに投票しました。

It is interesting to note that, even today, we follow the same pattern in our own wards.  When there is a new calling in a ward, the name of the individual is presented to the congregation.  The ward members are asked to vote, either to accept or to reject, that person for that assignment.  

今日、私たちのワードでも同じパターンに従っていることは興味深いことです。ワードで新たな召しがあると、その会員の名前が会衆に提示されます。ワードの会員は、その人をその召しに賛成するか拒否するかに投票するよう求められます。

In the Church, we typically use the word “sustain” rather than “vote”, but the principle is still the same.

Since this was the very first day that the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints met, they had no experience and no pattern to follow.  They did not know what the Lord wanted them to do.

In this revelation, the Lord begins to teach the early Saints how the Church functions.  These same principles apply to us in our own day.

The first and most important principle given by the Lord is that the prophet is the leader of the Church.  No one is more important than the prophet and only the prophet has the authority to receive revelation for the Church as a whole.

主によって与えられた最初で、最も重要な原則は、預言者が教会の指導者であるということです。預言者ほど重要な人は他に誰もいませんし、教会全体の啓示を受ける権能を持っているのは預言者だけです。

The six new members of the Church were taught very clearly that the words of the prophet are the words of the Lord.  We in our day know that this is a true principle.  

教会の6人の新しい会員は、預言者の言葉が主の御言葉であることを非常に明確に教えられました。私たちは今日、これが真の原則であることを知っています。

We are told that “his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth”.

「あたかもわたし自身の口から出ているかのように、彼の言葉を受け入れなければならない」と言われています。

In a world filled with uncertainty, doubt, hardships, and trials, we know that we can always trust the prophet.  We know that we can follow his counsel and teachings.  We know that he speaks for the Lord.  We know that he will guide us in truth and righteousness.

不安や、疑い、困難、試練に満ちたこの世の中で、私たちは常に預言者を信頼できることを知っています。彼の勧告と教えに従うことができることを知っています。彼が主に代わり話していることを知っています。彼が私たちを真理と義に導くことを私たちは知っています。

Today, we are blessed to be able to hear the words of the prophet and apostles twice each year in General Conference.  

今日、私たちは年に2回、総大会で預言者と使徒たちの言葉を聞くことができるのは祝福です。

Do we believe that those words are the words of the Lord?  Do we believe that the prophet and apostles speak the truth?  Do we believe that following the words of the prophet and apostles will make us happy?

それらの言葉が主の御言葉であると信じますか？預言者と使徒たちが真理を語っていると信じますか？預言者と使徒たちの言葉に従うことが私たちを幸せにすると信じますか？

If we believe these things, do we study their words?  Do we read the General Conference talks?  Do we pray about the things that we are taught?  If we do so, the Lord has promised that “the Lord God will disperse the powers of darkness” from before us.

それらのことを信じるのなら、彼らの言葉を研究したいと思いませんか？総大会のお話しを読みたいと思いませんか？教えられたことについて祈りたいと思いませんか？そうすれば、主は私たちの前から「闇の力を追い払う」と約束されました。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember our responsibility to study the words of the prophet and the apostles.  Let’s remember that those are the words of the Lord, as if from his own mouth.  Let’s remember that it is by following the words of the prophet and the apostles that we can be happy.

新しい週が始まります。預言者と使徒たちの言葉を研究するという責任があることを忘れずに過ごしましょう。彼らの言葉は、あたかも主ご自身の口から出ているような主の御言葉がであることを忘れないでください。預言者と使徒たちの言葉に従うことによって、私たちが幸せになれることを覚えていましょう。
