Brethren, shall we not go forward in so great a cause?  Go forward and not backward.  Courage, brethren; and on, on to victory!  Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad.  Let the earth break forth into singing. Doctrine and Covenants 128:22

As we come to the end of a very memorable year, this may be a good time to stop and reflect on the events of this past year.

とても忘れられない一年が終わりました。私たちはこの一年の出来事を振り返る良い機会かもしれません。

It has certainly been a memorable year.  It did not happen as we had expected, moving along as things always have.  Instead, it was a year of turmoil, upheaval, and strange new restrictions.  

確かに忘れられない年でした。それは私たちが期待していたものとは違っていましたが、いつものように過ぎていきました。代わりに、混乱や激動、そして今まで経験したことのない制限のある年でした。

Millions of people have suffered with the terrible sickness that has infected people all around the globe.  Many have died from the effects of the disease and many more have suffered greatly as they or their family members have fallen victim to the disease.

世界中で何百万もの人々が感染し、ひどい病気に苦しんでいます。多くの人がこの病気の影響で亡くなり、彼らやその家族がこの病気の犠牲になったことで、さらに多くの人が大きな苦しみを味わっています。

Travel bans have been set up by many countries.  Lock-down orders have been decreed by many states and cities.  Thousands of businesses have closed down.  Everyone has been told to wear face masks.

多くの国で旅行規制が発令されています。多くの州や都市で封鎖命令が布告されています。何千もの企業が閉鎖されました。誰もがフェイスマスクを着用するように言われています。

Who could have imagined that something would happen that would cause all the missionaries to be called home, that would prevent us from gathering each week for our Church meetings, that would even cause the Temples to be closed?

すべての宣教師が家に帰され、教会の集会に毎週集まることができなくなり、神殿が閉鎖されるようなことが起こると誰が想像できたでしょうか。

In spite of all the terrible events and the uncertainty that surrounds us, we have no need to fear.  Great blessings have come from these trials and difficulties.  

私たちを取り巻く恐ろしい出来事と不安定な状況であっても、恐れる必要はありません。これらの試練と困難から大きな祝福がもたらされました。

We have been told by prophets and apostles that these hardships are only temporary.  They have reminded us that the Lord is in charge.  They have explained that the effects of this terrible virus were not a surprise to the Lord.  He is still in control and his work will move forward.

預言者や使徒たちから、これらの困難は一時的なものに過ぎないと言われています。 彼らは私たちに主が責任を負っていることを思い出させました。 彼らはこの恐ろしいウイルスの影響は、主にとって驚きではなかったと説明しました。今もなお主はすべてをご存じであり、主の業は前進するでしょう。

In our own lifetime, it has been rare for us to undergo such difficult trials as this.  We have come to expect life to be simple, easy, and stable.  We have forgotten that trials and difficulties come to all in this mortal life.  As President Russell M. Nelson taught in his recent broadcast, it is the trials and difficulties we experience that help us to learn things we could not learn otherwise.

私たちの生涯において、このような困難な試練を経験することはまずありませんでした。私たちは、シンプルで、安定した人生を期待するようになっていました。私たちは、この死すべき世において、このような試練や困難があることを忘れていました。 ラッセル・M・ネルソン大管長が最近のメッセージで教えられたように、他の方法では学べないことを私たちが経験する試練や困難から学ぶことができます。

Although we may feel we are being severely tried, our pioneer ancestors will probably laugh at us.  Our Church leaders are not being murdered.  We are not being driven from our homes.  Our houses and barns are not being burned.  We are not being sent out into the wilderness, not knowing where we will go.  

私たちは厳しく試されていると感じるかもしれませんが、開拓者はおそらく私たちを笑うでしょう。私たちの教会の指導者たちは殺害されていません。私たちは家から追い出されていません。私たちの家や納屋は燃やされていません。私たちはどこに行くのかわからないまま荒野に送り出されたりしません。

We have great reason to rejoice.  The gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth.  The Heavens are open again.  God has called prophets and apostles to lead and guide us.  We have the Book of Mormon to study.  We have the “Come, Follow Me” lessons to study as families.  We have the technology to meet together remotely, even when it is not possible to meet together physically.  We have an ever-growing number of temples all around the world.

私たちには喜ぶ大きな理由があります。イエス・キリストの福音が地上に回復されました。天国は再び開かれています。神は私たちを導くために預言者と使徒を召されました。学ぶためのモルモン書があります。家族で勉強する「わたしに従ってきなさい」のレッスンがあります。物理的に会うことができない時でも、ネットワークを介して会う技術があります。世界中に増え続ける神殿があります。

We are very blessed.  

私たちはとても恵まれています。

As President Nelson encouraged us, we need to express our gratitude for our many blessings each day.  We need to share with others our gratitude, that their lives may be blessed as well.  

ネルソン大管長が私たちを励ましてくれたように、私たちは毎日多くの祝福に感謝の意を表す必要があります。私たちは他の人たちに感謝の気持ちを分かち合う必要があります。そうすることで彼らの人生も祝福されるかもしれません。

As the Prophet Joseph Smith, who endured suffering and trials beyond anything we will ever experience, taught us, “Courage, brethren; and on, on to victory!  Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad.”

私たちが経験したことのない苦しみと試練に耐えた預言者ジョセフ・スミスは、次のように教えました。「兄弟たちよ、勇気を出してください。勝利に向かって進み、進んでください。心を喜び楽しませ、大いに喜んでください。」

So let’s look forward to a new and exciting new year.  Let’s remember to express gratitude for our many blessings.  Let’s remember that the Lord is in control and that his work will move forward.  Let’s “let our hearts rejoice”!
