Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life. 3 Nephi 5:13
The first few chapters of 3 Nephi tell of a period of time when the Nephites had great trials, wars, and contentions. The prophecies of Samuel had come to pass, testifying to the people that the Savior had been born. But, we are told, that “there began to be lyings sent among the people by Satan, to harden their hearts”. The bands of robbers became so strong that both the Nephites and those of the Lamanites who were righteous had to band together for safety.

As Mormon writes about this, he adds in some comments of his own, in verses 8 through 26 of chapter 5. He explains something about the difficulty of abridging the vast history of the Nephites, saying that his abridgement cannot contain even “a hundredth” of all the things that happened. But, he also tells us that there are many other records the do contain more history of the people.

In verse 13, he makes a declaration that should apply to all of us as well. He testifies that he is a disciple of Jesus Christ and that as such, he has been called to share the gospel with others.
13節では、私たちにも当てはまる事柄を宣言をしています。彼はイエス・キリストの弟子であり、他の人に福音を分かち合うよう召されていると証しています。
Is this not our assignment and duty as well?
これも私たちの務めと義務ではありませんか？
Just like Mormon, we are all disciples of Jesus Christ. We have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer. We have followed the example of Jesus Christ and have been baptized under proper priesthood authority.
モルモンのように、私たちもみなイエス・キリストの弟子です。私たちはイエス・キリストを救い主および贖い主として受け入れました。私たちはイエス・キリストの模範に従い、正しい神権の権能の下でバプテスマを受けました。
So, as disciples of Jesus Christ, what should we do?
では、イエス・キリストの弟子として、私たちは何をすべきでしょうか？
Just like Mormon, we have also been called to “declare his word”, that all of Heavenly Father’s children can enjoy the blessings of everlasting life.
モルモンと同様に、私たちは「主の言葉を告げ知らせる」よう召されています。それは、天父のすべての子供たちが永遠の命の祝福を味わえるようにするためです。
How do we do that?
では、どうすればよいのでしょうか？
Sometimes, we are able to “declare his word” by being a full-time missionary. Sometimes, we are able to “declare his word” by serving as a ministering brother or sister. Sometimes, we are able to “declare his word” by sharing our testimonies and beliefs with others. Sometimes, we are able to “declare his word” by serving in the Temple or by doing family history research.
まず、私たちは専任宣教師になることで「主の言葉を告げ知らせる」ことができます。ミニスタリング兄弟または姉妹として仕えることによって「主の言葉を告げ知らせる」ことができます。 証をして信条を他の人と分かち合うことで「主の言葉を告げ知らせる」ことができます。そして神殿で奉仕し、家族歴史の探求を行うことによって、「主の言葉を告げ知らせる」ことができます。
It really doesn’t matter what we do to help teach others about Jesus Christ and his gospel. What matters is that we do our best to always be good disciples of the Savior. Any time we are serving others, helping other people, or just being a good example, we are “declaring his word”.
イエス・キリストと福音を他の人が学ぶために私たちが何をするかはそれほど重要ではありません。重要なのは、常に救い主の良い弟子であるように最善を尽くすことです。私たちが他の人に仕え、助けたり、模範であるだけでも、私たちはいつも「主の言葉を告げ知らせ」ているのです。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember that we, like Mormon, are disciples of Jesus Christ. Let’s remember that we have a sacred responsibility to “declare his word”. Let’s remember that others are watching us to see how a disciple of Jesus Christ acts. Let’s remember that we can “declare his word” in many different ways.
