さて、わたしはこれらのことを知っていながら、どうして自分の召された務めを果たすこと以上に多くのことを望んでよいだろうか。アルマ書２９：６

Now, seeing that I know these things, why should I desire more than to perform the work to which I have been called?  Alma 29:6

The 29th chapter of Alma is a chapter of rejoicing.  It begins with the well-known scripture, “O that I were an angel”.

アルマ 書29章は「喜び」の章です。 有名な「私は天使であって」という聖句から始まります。

Alma is rejoicing in the missionary success of the sons of Mosiah, who spent 14 years teaching the gospel to the Lamanites.  We are told that thousands of the Lamanites accepted the gospel and became a very righteous people.

アルマは、モーサヤの息子たちが宣教師として成功を収めたことを喜んでいます。彼らはレーマン人に福音を教えるために14年間も働いたのです。何千人ものレーマン人が福音を受け入れ、非常に正しい民になったと言われています。

Alma is also rejoicing in the missionary success he and his companion, Amulek, had among the Nephites.  They had brought many to repent of their sins and accept the gospel.  Only in the city of Ammonihah were they rejected and cast out.

アルマはまた、ニーファイ人の中で彼と同僚であるアミュレクが宣教師として成功を収めたことを喜んでいます。 彼らは多くの人が罪を悔い改めて福音を受け入るよう導きました。彼らが拒絶されて追い出されたのは、アモナイハの町だけでした。

Alma is filled with joy and gratitude to the Lord for the great blessings that he has received.  His wish is to be able to teach everyone, everywhere, about the gospel.  

アルマは、彼が受けた大きな祝福のため主への喜びと感謝に満ちていました。彼の願いは、世界中のすべての人々に福音を教えることです。

But, he recognizes that he is just a man and that he “ought to be content with the things which the Lord hath allotted unto me”.  He understands that the most important assignment for him to fulfill is the assignment that he currently has.

しかし、彼は自分がただの人であり、「主が私に与えられたものに満足すべきである」ことを認識していました。 彼が果たすべき最も重要な務めは、彼が現在受けている務めであることを理解していました。

So it is with each of us.  We all have assignments. We all have callings.  We all have opportunities to serve those around us.

Sometimes, we think that our particular calling is not very important.  We think that other people have more important callings.  We think we cannot do much to serve in our own calling.

時々、私たちは自分の召しがそれほど重要ではないと考えます。 他の人にはもっと重要な召しがあり、自分の召しはそれほど重要ではなく、奉仕する機会が少ないと考えます。

Alma teaches us that this is not the correct way to think.

アルマは、これは正しい考え方ではないと教えています。

The Lord is not as concerned about which particular calling we have as much as he is concerned about how we serve in that calling.  Every calling and assignment in the Church is an important assignment.  The Lord values how we serve much more than where we serve.

主は私たちがどんな召しを受けているかではなく、私たちがその召しにどのように仕えるかについて関心を寄せておられます。教会での召しと務めはすべて重要です。主は私たちが仕える場所よりも、仕える方法をはるかに高く評価されるのです。

In every assignment given to us, we have the opportunity to strengthen testimonies.  We have the opportunity to lift burdens.  We have the opportunity to increase faith.

与えられるすべての務めによって、私たちは証を強めることができます。また重荷を取り除き、信仰を深めることもできます。

Sometimes it is the smallest of acts that have the greatest impact on someone’s life.  A simple smile, a warm greeting, a thoughtful act of kindness, all these have amazing power to lift burdens and to let others feel the love of our Savior Jesus Christ.  Lives can be changed by simple acts list these.  

時には私たちの小さな行いが、他の誰かの人生に大きな影響を与えることがあります。 ほほ笑み、温かい挨拶、思いやりのある親切な行い、これらすべての行為が、重荷を取り除き、他の人に救い主イエス・キリストの愛を感じるさせる驚くべき力があります。小さな行いで他の人の生活が変えれるのです。

The best thing is that we all can do these small acts of kindness.  It does not require a special calling.  It does not require a direct assignment.  It does not take a great knowledge of the scriptures or many years of service in the Church.

最も良いことは、私たちの誰もがこのような小さな親切な行いができるということです。 特別な召しは必要ありません。 聖典の深い知識や教会での長年の奉仕は必要ではありません。

All it requires is that we share our love of the Savior with those around us.  

必要なのは、救い主への愛を周囲の人々と分かち合うことだけです。

As we “perform the work to which” we have each been called, we too will feel the same joy that Alma felt.  We too will be able to change lives by our small and simple acts of kindness.  We too will be good followers of Jesus Christ.

自分の召された「務めを果たすこと」で私たちもアルマが感じた同じ喜びを感じます。私たちも小さく簡単で親切な行いにより他の人の人生を変えることができます。そして私たちもイエス・キリストの良い従者となれるのです。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember what Alma has taught us.  Let’s remember that the most important assignment in the Church is the assignment that we currently have.  Let’s remember that we can change lives by letting others see that we are true followers of our Savior.  Let’s all have a great week!
