さて、アミュレクはかつて自分の友であったものたちから拒まれ、また自分の父親や親族からも拒まれたので、アモナイハの地にある自分の金、銀、貴重の品々を全て神の言葉のために捨てた。

アルマ書１５：１６

And it came to pass that Alma and Amulek, Amulek having forsaken all his gold, and silver, and his precious things, which were in the land of Ammonihah, for the word of God, he being rejected by those who were once his friends and also by his father and his kindred;  Alma 15:16

Amulek was an important and successful man in the land of Ammonihah.  He knew about the gospel, but tells us that he was “called many times but I would not hear”.  When the prophet Alma came to Ammonihah, the Lord directed Amulek to find him and give him food.  Luckily, this time, Amulek did hear.

アミュレクはアモナイハの地では重要な成功した人物でした。彼は福音を知っていたものの、「幾度となく呼ばれたが、私は聞こうとしなかった」と述べています。預言者アルマがアモナイハに来たとき、主はアミュレクが彼を見つけ食物を与えるよう導きかれました。幸いなことに、この時はアミュレクは「聞いた」のです。

Alma spent many days teaching Amulek and called Amulek to be his junior companion. As Alma began teaching the people of Ammonihah, he instructed Amulek to testify to the people.  

アルマは幾日もアミュレクを教え、後輩同僚として召しました。アルマがアモナイハの人々に教え始めた時、彼は人々に証しするようアミュレクに指示しました。

Both Alma and Amulek were persecuted by the people of Ammonihah and endured many hardships and trials.  

アルマとアミュレクの二人はアモナイハの人々から迫害を受け、多くの困難と試練に耐えました。

Amulek, like Lehi and his family, left everything he had to be a missionary.  Like Lehi, Amulek was a wealthy and successful man, but he gave up all those riches.  He understood that having a testimony of the gospel was more precious than all the gold and silver.

アミュレクはリーハイとその家族のように宣教師となるため、すべての財産を置いてきました。リーハイのようにアミュレクは裕福で成功した人物でした。しかし、彼はそれらすべての富を放棄しました。福音の証は金や銀より価値のある事を彼は理解していました。

Many of us are like Amulek.  As we begin our journey along the covenant path, we quickly realize that we need to make sacrifices.  

私たちの中にもアミュレクのような人がいます。聖約の道を歩み始めると、犠牲を払う必要があることに気が付きます。

Walking the covenant path is not always easy.  It tests our faith and our patience. Yet we know that the Lord is always there to help us and will send down the blessings that we need.

聖約の道を歩むのはいつも容易とは限りません。信仰と忍耐が試されます。しかし、主がそこにおられ、私たちを助け、私たちに必要な祝福を与えてくださることを私たちは知っています。

Those who are converts to the Church understand the trials that Amulek faced as he began to walk the covenant path.  He was rejected by those who were once his friends.  

教会に改宗する人はアミュレクが聖約の道を歩み始めた時に直面した試練を経験するかもしれません。彼は一度は友達だった者から拒まれたのです。

As we each begin our journey on the covenant path, we too are sometimes rejected by those who were our friends.  They don’t understand why we have changed, why we don’t live the same life as we did before, why our habits have changed.

私たちもそれぞれ聖約の道を歩み始めるとき、友達であったものからも拒まれることがあるでしょう。彼らは私たちが何故変わったのか、何故以前のような生き方をしないのか、何故私たちの習慣が変わったのか理解できないのでしょう。

Amulek was even rejected by his own father and his own family.  Some of us have had similar experiences.  This can be a great trial.  We love our families and want them to be happy, but we understand that the gospel is more important than anything else.

アミュレクは自分の父や親族からさえも拒まれたのです。私たちの中にも似たような経験をした人がいるでしょう。それは大きな試練です。私たちは自分の家族を愛し、彼らにも幸せになってほしいと願っています。しかし福音は何よりも大切なことを知っています。

One of the great blessings of the gospel is that many, or perhaps even all, of those people who rejected us because of our conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ will have an opportunity someday to hear and understand the gospel.  Hopefully, they will then choose to accept the gospel, just as we have, and will be able to receive all the promised blessings.  

福音の祝福のひとつは、私たちがイエス・キリストの福音に改宗したことで私たちを拒んだた多くの、またはおそらくすべての人が、いつの日か福音を聞き、理解する機会があるという事です。彼らが私たちと同じように福音を受け入れることを選択し、約束されたすべての祝福を受けることを願っています。

Walking the covenant path is not always easy.  There are many lessons that we need to learn as we progress.  The Lord presents many opportunities for us to grow and gain greater faith.  We show our love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ by making choices, by choosing those things that will keep us on the covenant path.

聖約の道を歩くことは必ずしも容易ではありません。私たちの進歩の過程では、学ぶべき多くの教訓があります。主は私たちが成長し、より大きな信仰を得るための多くの機会を与えてくださいます。聖約の道にとどまることを選択することによって、私たちは天父とイエス・キリストへの愛を示すのです。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember the example of Amulek.  Let’s remember what is really important in this life.  Let’s remember that the blessings of eternal life are much greater than money or fame.  Let’s remember that walking the covenant path requires choices.

新しい週が始まります。アミュレクの模範と、この人生で一番大切なことを忘れないようにしましょう。永遠の命という祝福は、お金や名声よりもはるかに大きいことを覚えておきましょう。聖約の道を歩くには選択という過程が必要であることを忘れないようにしましょう。
