まことに、まことに、わたしはあなたに言う。あなたがわたしに望むことが、あなたにそのとおりになるであろう。もしあなたが望むならば、あなたはこの時代に大いに善を行う仲立ちとなるであろう。教義と聖約６：８
Verily, verily, I say unto to you, even as you desire of me so it shall be unto you; and if you desire, you shall be the means of doing much good in this generation. D&C 6:8
In the 6th Section of the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord teaches Oliver Cowdery about many things. In the 6th verse, the Lord gives Oliver an important instruction, one that applies to us as well.
教義と聖約の6章では主が多くの事柄をオリバー・カウドリーに教えておられます。６節で主が私たちにも当てはまる大切な指示をオリバーに与えておられます。
There are two important concepts in this short scripture.
この短い聖句には二つの重要な概念があります。
First, the Lord says, “even as you desire of me so it shall be unto you”.
最初に、主は「あなたがわたしに望むことが、あなたにそのとおりになるであろう」と言われています。
In other words, the blessings that Oliver will receive will not be random. They will not be unexpected. They will not be given without a reason.
言い換えれば、オリバーが受けるだろう祝福は不特定ではないと言うことです。それは偶然、理由もなく与えられるものではありません。
The blessings that Oliver will receive will be due to his faithfulness and obedience. As Oliver is faithful, he will receive the promised blessings. It will take effort on the part of Oliver before any blessings will be received.
オリバーが受ける祝福は忠実さと従順によるものです。オリバーが忠実な時は約束された祝福を受けました。どのような祝福を受けるにしろ、まず自分のなすべきことを行う努力が必要です。
It is the same for us. We cannot expect to receive blessings if we do nothing. That is not how the plan works. We need to take action. We need to keep the commandments. We need to show the Lord that we desire to receive those promised blessings.
それは私たちも同じことです。私たちは何もしなければ祝福を期待できません。それは主の計画とは違います。私たちは行動を起こす必要があります。私たちは戒めを守り、それらの約束された祝福を望んでいることを主に示さねばなりません。
As we are faithful, as we keep the commandments, as we show the Lord that we truly desire to follow him, the Lord will give us the promised blessings in his own time.
私たちが忠実であり、戒めを守り、心から主に従いたいことを主に示すなら、主がふさわしいと思うときに祝福をくださいます。
Next, the Lord tells Oliver that if he wants to, he can “be the means of doing much good in this generation”. Oliver is once again told that it will take action on his part. “If you desire” is the key phrase.
次に、主はもし彼が望むなら「この時代に大いに善を行う仲立ちとなるであろう」とオリバーに言われています。それにはオリバー自身の行動が必要だと再び言われました。「もしあなたが望むならば」はキーフレーズです。
Just like Oliver, we too can be the “means of doing much good” in our generation.
まさにオリバーのように、私たちも「この時代に大いに善を行う仲立ちと」なれるのです。
The Lord has need of every one of us. There is work for everyone. No matter what our individual situation is, there are things that we can do to help the work of the Lord.
主は私たち一人一人を必要とされています。すべての人にはなすべき業があります。私たちが個人的にどんな状況にいようと主のみ業を助けれる何かがあります。
We do not have to be famous prophets like Nephi or Alma or Joseph Smith. We do not need to be the Bishop or the Relief Society president. We do not need to be a full-time missionary.
私たちはニーファイやアルマ、ジョセフ・スミスのような著名な預言者である必要はありません。ビショップや扶助協会の会長である必要もありません。専任宣教師である必要もありません。
There is work all around us. There are people who need help. There are people who need to have their testimony strengthened. There are people who need a kind word and a smile. There are people who need to know that someone cares about them.
私たちの周りには出来ることがあります。助けの必要な人がいます。もっと強い証が必要な人がいます。親切な言葉や笑顔が必要な人がいます。誰か彼らを気にかけていることを知る必要のある人がいます。
Even in these “small and simple things” like these, we are the “means of doing much good”. As we serve faithfully in our callings, as we minister to those around us, as we help to gather scattered Israel on both sides of the veil, we are the “means of doing much good”.
それらの「小さく簡単な事」で私たちは「大いに善を行う仲立ちと」なれるのです。自分の召しに忠実に奉仕することで、周りの人にミニスタリングすることで、幕の両側でイスラエルの集合を助けることで、私たちは「大いに善を行う仲立ちと」なれるのです。
As we go through this next week, let’s show the Lord that we desire to be the means of doing much good. Let’s show the Lord that we desire to receive the promised blessings. Let’s show the Lord that we really love him and want to keep his commandments.
さて新しい週が始まります。大いに善を行う仲立ちとなりたいと望んでいることを主に示しましょう。約束された祝福を望んでいることを主に示しましょう。主を愛しており主の戒めを守りたいと望んでいることを主に示しましょう。
