目覚めよ、わたしの霊よ。もはや罪の中でしおれるな。喜べ、おお、わたしの心よ。もうわたしの敵に場所を与えてはならない。わたしの敵のことで二度と怒ってはならない。苦難のために力を弱くしてはならない。喜べ、おお、わたしの心よ。主に叫び求めて言え。「おお、主よ、わたしはとこしえにあなたをほめたたえます。まことに、わたしの神であり、わたしの救いの岩であるあなたをよろこびます。ニーファイ第二書４：２８−３０

Awake, my soul!  No longer droop in sin.  Rejoice O my heart, and give place no more for the enemy of my soul.  Do not anger again because of my enemies. Do not slacken my strength because of mine afflictions.  Rejoice, O my heart, and cry unto the Lord, and say: O Lord, I will praise thee forever; yea my soul will rejoice in thee, my God, and the rock of my salvation.  2 Nephi 4:28-30

This scripture is from the end of the verses that are called “the Psalm of Nephi”.  

この聖句は「ニーファイの詩篇」と呼ばれる文節の最後の部分にあります。

In the earlier verses of chapter 4, Nephi laments his many weaknesses and sins.  He wonders why he gives in to temptation, even after he has received so many blessings from the Lord.  He wishes that he could be more obedient to the commandments.

第4章の最初の部分でニーファイは自分の弱さと罪を嘆き、悲しんでいます。彼は主から多くの祝福を受けた後ですら、なぜ誘惑に屈するのだろうかと考えています。彼はもっと戒めに忠実でいることができればよいのにと望んでいます。

But, as he ponders over these things, he realizes that he must be strong.  He realizes that temptations come to all of us. He realizes that he must do his best to overcome challenges.

しかし彼がそれらの事を考えているとき、自分自身が強くなければならないと悟っています。彼は誰もが誘惑を受けること、チャレンジを克服するために最善を尽くさねばならないことを悟っています。

He teaches us that we too can overcome our challenges and trials, with the help of the Lord.

彼は私たちも自分のチャレンジや試練を主の助けによって克服できると私たちに教えています。

We are the most blessed of all people.  We have received the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We have The Book of Mormon. We have living prophets and apostles to guide us.  We have the “Come, Follow Me” program to help us study the scriptures. We have the Holy Ghost to guide us in our lives.

私たちは最も祝福された者です。私たちにはイエス・キリストの福音とモルモン書があり、私たちを導いてくれる生ける預言者と使徒がいます。私たちには聖典勉強の手助けとなる「私に従ってきなさい」のプログラムがあります。私たちの生活の中で導いてくれる聖霊もあります。

Yes, we all have difficult trials at times.  We all have tests and temptations. We all have challenges to endure.  We all make mistakes and need to repent.

私たちには誰でも困難な時期があります。誰でも試しや誘惑を受け、忍耐を試されます。私たちは誰でも間違いを犯しますので悔い改めが必要です。

But, those trials and difficulties are all part of this mortal life.  They are necessary for us to grow and to gain experience. Without opposition, as Lehi teaches us, we cannot progress.

しかし、それらの試練と困難はこの死すべき世には必要なものです。それらは私たちが成長し、経験を得るためのものです。リーハイが教えるように反対のものが無ければ私たちは進歩できません。

As Nephi instructs us, we must not feel depressed or sad.  We should not feel like we are failing. We must not give up.

ニーファイが教えるように、私たちは落ち込んだり悲しんだりしてはならないのです。私たちは失敗しそうに感じたり、諦めたりしてはならないのです。

We know the great Plan of Happiness.  We know that we can repent of our sins.  We know that the Lord will always help us with our trials.

私たちは大いなる幸福の計画を知っています。自分の罪を悔い改めることができ、試練の中にあっても主が常に助けてくださることを知っています。

We have been given great blessings.  We have been promised even greater blessings in the future.  We have been promised eternal joy and happiness with our families and with our Heavenly parents.  

私たちは素晴らしい祝福を受けてきました。将来、更に大きな祝福も約束されています。家族と天の両親と共に受ける永遠の喜びと幸福が約束されています。

All we have to do is to try our best to do good.  We are not expected to be perfect. Only our Savior Jesus Christ was perfect.  We just have to do the best that we can in our own circumstances and situations.

私たちがすべきことは、ただ最善を尽くして良い行いをするだけです。完璧である事は期待されていません。完璧なお方は私たちの救い主イエス・キリストだけです。私たちは自分の置かれた状況下で最善を尽くさねばならないのです。

So like Nephi, we should say, “Awake my soul!  No longer droop in sin. Rejoice, O my heart”.

そうです、ニーファイのように私たちは「目覚めよ、わたしの霊よ。もはや罪の中でしおれるな。喜べ、おお、わたしの心よ」と言わねばなりません。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember the great blessings that are in store for us.  Let’s remember that we are not expected to be perfect. Let’s remember to turn our thoughts and our hearts to the Lord in all that we do each day.  Let’s rejoice with Nephi.

私たちに用意された大いなる祝福を覚えて来週を過ごしましょう。私たちは完璧を期待されていないことを忘れないようにしましょう。毎日の行いの中で私たちの思いと心を主に向けるようにしましょう。ニーファイと共に喜びましょう。
