見よ、わたしは主に関することに喜びを感じます。わたしの心は、これまでに見聞きしたことを絶えず深く考えている。それでも、主が深い慈しみを、大いなる驚くべき業の中でわたしに示してくださっているのもかかわらず、わたしの心は、「おお、わたしは何と惨めな人間なのだろう」と叫ぶ。まことに、わたしの心はわたしの肉のために苦悩し、わたしの霊はわたしの罪悪のために嘆く。

ニーファイ第二書４：１６―１７

Behold, my soul delighteth in the things of the Lord; and my heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have seen and heard.  Nevertheless, notwithstanding the great goodness of the Lord, in showing me his great and marvelous works, my heart exclaimeth: O wretched man that I am!  Yea, my heart sorroweth because of my flesh; my soul grieveth because of mine iniquities. 2 Nephi 4:16-17

Nephi was one of the greatest prophets that ever lived on the earth.  Think of all the things that he did for us. He obtained the Plates of Brass.  He got food for his family while they were traveling in the wilderness. He built a ship that allowed them to cross the ocean.  He taught the doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ to his family and to his followers. Without his work, we would not have The Book of Mormon.  

ニーファイはこの世に存在した最も偉大な預言者の一人でした。彼が私たちのために成し遂げた全ての事を考えてみてください。彼は真鍮版を手に入れました。荒野を旅している間家族のために食料を手に入れました。家族が大海を渡ることができるよう船を作りました。イエス・キリストの福音の教義を家族と彼に従う人々に教えました。彼の働き無しに私たちはモルモン書を手にすることはできなかったでしょう。

Because of his faithfulness, he was given many special spiritual experiences by the Lord.  He was shown in vision many things, including the birth of the Savior, the history of his people, and their eventual destruction.  

彼の忠実な信仰のために、彼は主から多くの特別な霊的な経験を与えられました。彼は示現で救い主の誕生や、彼の民の歴史と最終的な破滅など多くの事柄を見せられました。

Yet, even with all his hard work, all his faithfulness, all his efforts to be righteous, he still felt that he was failing.  He felt that he still committed sins. He felt sorry for his mistakes.

それでも彼の熱心な働き、忠実さ、義となる努力にもかかわらず、彼は失敗していると感じていました。まだ罪を犯している、自分の過ちを悔いる気持ちがありました。

There is an important lesson for us in this scripture.

この聖句には私たちにとって大切な教訓があります。

Many of us feel that we are not good enough.  Many of us feel that we have committed too many sins.  Many of us feel that we are not worthy of blessings from Heavenly Father.

私たちの多くは自分が充分ではないと感じることがあります。私たちの多くはあまりにも多くの罪を犯していると感じ、天の御父からの祝福を受けるにはふさわしくないと感じています。

If Nephi, one of the greatest prophets, felt that he was unworthy of blessings, it is reasonable for us, who are not prophets at all, to feel unworthy of blessings.

最も偉大な預言者のひとりであったニーファイですら祝福を受けるにふさわしくないと感じるならば、預言者ではない私たちが、祝福に値しないと感じることは理にかなっています。

But, where do those feelings come from?  Do they come from Heavenly Father? Do they come from Jesus Christ?  Or do they come from Satan?

しかし、それらの感情はどこから来るのでしょうか？天の御父からでしょうか？イエス・キリストからでしょうか？それともサタンからでしょうか？

Satan wants us to feel unworthy.  Satan wants us to feel useless. Satan wants us to give up.  Making us feel unworthy is one of his favorite tricks.  

サタンは私たちにふさわしくないとか、役に立たない、諦めたいという気持ちを持たせたいのです。自分には価値がないと感じさせるのはサタンの好む罠のひとつです。

On the other hand, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ want us to be happy.  

一方、天の御父とイエス・キリストは私たちに幸せであることを望んでおられます。

They know that we are not perfect.  They know that we all make many mistakes.  They know that we sometimes feel useless. But they love us perfectly.  They stand ready, with the arms of mercy, to comfort us, to strengthen us, and to help us through the hard times.

御二方は私たちが完全でないことをご存知です。私たちの誰もが多くの間違いを犯し、自分が時々役に立たないと感じることもご存知です。しかし、御二方は私たちを完全に愛しておられます。御二方は私たちを慰め、私たちを強め、そして辛いときを助けるために慈悲の腕を広げて準備して待っておられます。

Feeling unworthy is a common situation for us here on this earth.  We need to recognize where those feelings come from, though, and not be fooled by Satan’s tricks.  Even Nephi had those feelings sometimes. We need to follow the example of Nephi and learn to trust in the Lord.  We need to go forward with faith. We need to be good followers of our Savior Jesus Christ.

この世で私たちがふさわしくないと感じることはよくある事です。私たちはそれらの感情が何処から来るのか悟り、サタンの罠に騙されないようにする必要があります。ニーファイでさえ時々そうした感情を持っていました。私たちはニーファイの模範に従い、主を信頼する事を学ぶ必要があります。信仰を持って前進し、救い主イエス・キリストの良い従者となる必要があります。

As we go through this next week, when feelings of sadness or frustration come to us, let’s remember the example of Nephi.  Let’s not fall for Satan’s tricks. Let’s center our testimonies on the Atonement of Jesus Christ and make that the foundation of all that we do.  

来週、私たちが悲しみや不満の感情を持つ時ニーファイの模範を思い出しましょう。サタンの罠に落ちないようにしましょう。イエス・キリストの贖いに私たちの証を中心に持ち、私たちの行いのすべての基をそこに持ちましょう。
