さて、悔い改めて、わたしの名によってバプテスマを受ける者はだれであろうと、満たされるであろう。そして最後まで堪え忍ぶならば、見よ、わたしはその者を、わたしが立って世の人々を裁くその日に、わたしの父の御前で罪のない者としよう。 第三ニーファイ２７：１６
And it shall come to pass, that whoso repenteth and is baptized in my name shall be filled; and if he endureth to the end, behold, him will I hold guiltless before my Father at that day when I shall stand to judge the world. 3 Nephi 27:16
This scripture is taken from the Savior’s ministry to the Nephites after his resurrection. It contains the basic components of the gospel plan. It is just as meaningful to us today as it was to those Nephites, some 2,000 years ago.
この聖句は主が復活された後にニーファイ人に教えらたものです。それには福音の計画の基本的なことが含まれています。二千年ほど前、ニーファイ人にもそうであったように今日の私たちにも意味がある教えです。
In this single sentence, the Savior beautifully and simply summarizes the gospel plan for us.
この一節で救い主は福音の計画を美しく分かりやすく要約されています。
One of the great blessings of the gospel is that the promises of happiness are available to everyone. It does not matter when a person lives, if they are rich or poor, if they are famous or completely unknown. The same blessings are available to everyone.
福音の大きな祝福のひとつはすべての人に幸福の約束が用意されているということです。いつ生きていたか、裕福か貧乏か、有名人か無名かということは関係ありません。同じ祝福がすべての人に用意されています。
We are all sons or daughters of Heavenly Father. He loves us more than we can ever imagine. He wants us to be happy. He wants us to return and live with him.
私たちは皆、天父の息子娘です。天父は私たちが想像する以上に私たちを愛しておられます。私たちが幸せになり、そして私たちと共に暮らすことを望んでおられます。
For us to return and live with him, we must obey the commandments. To obey the commandments, we must first know what they are. To know what the commandments are, we must study, ponder, and pray.
天父の元に戻り共に暮らすためには、私たちは戒めに従わねばなりません。戒めに従うには、それが何かを知らなければなりません。戒めが何かを知るには私たちは学び、熟考し、祈らねばなりません。
As we come to learn of the Savior’s love, we will want to follow him. We will want to take the first step, as given in this scripture. We will want to repent of our sins.
主の愛が分かるようになると私たちは主に従いたいと思うようになります。この聖句に書かれているように最初の一歩を踏み出します。私たちは自分の罪を悔い改めたいと思うようになります。
As our faith in Heavenly Father grows, and as we repent, we will want to be baptized. We will want to receive this important ordinance that starts us on the straight and narrow path back to heaven.
天父への信仰が増し、悔い改めると私たちはバプテスマを受けたいと思うようになります。私たちは天に戻る真っすぐで狭い道を歩み始めるため、この重要な儀式を受けたいと思うようになります。
Most of us have already achieved those goals. We have been taught about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have repented of our sins. We have been baptized by one holding proper priesthood authority.
私たちの殆どはこのゴールにたどり着いています。イエス・キリストの福音を教えられていますし、自分の罪を悔い改めています。正しい神権の権能を持った者からバプテスマを受けています。
Now what?
さてこれから何をすべきでしょう？
Notice the phrase “if he endureth to the end”. Repentance is not just a one-time event. It is a daily way of life. We all make mistakes. We all commit sin. We all fail some days.
「最後まで堪え忍ぶ」という句に注目してください。悔い改めは一度限りの行いではありません。それは日々の生き方です。私たちは誰でも間違いを犯します。誰でも罪を犯します。誰でもいつかは転びます。
Luckily, through the great Atonement of Jesus Christ, and through the ordinance of the sacrament, we have the opportunity to repent each week. It is by daily pray, scripture study, and personal reflection that we are able to become better followers of Jesus Christ.
幸いなことにイエス・キリストの偉大な贖いと、聖餐の儀式を通して、私たちは悔い改める機会が毎週あります。日々の祈りや聖典の勉強、個人的な反省を通してイエス・キリストの従者となれるのです。
It is this daily effort to follow our Savior that will eventually qualify us for the greatest of all blessings. As the Savior teaches us in this scripture, it is those people who repent, are baptized, and then endure to the end that will be held guiltless before the Father.
救い主に従おうという日々の努力により、すべての祝福で最も素晴らしいものを受けるにふさわしい者としてくださいます。救い主がこの聖句で教えられてるように悔い改め、バプテスマを受け、最後まで堪え忍ぶ者が父なる神の前に罪のない者とされるのです。
That day of judgement will come to each one of us. No one is exempt. No one can avoid it. Now is the time for us to prepare for our own judgement day, by following the principles given by the Savior in this scripture.
裁きの日は誰にでもやってきます。誰も例外ではありません。誰も逃れることは出来ません。今こそこの聖句にあるように、救い主によって与えられた原則に従うことで自分の裁きの日に備える時なのです。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember that there will be a judgement day. Let’s remember that, through the great Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven of our sins. Let’s remember that a daily effort to repent and to do better will lead us back to our heavenly home.
裁きの日がいつかやって来ることを忘れないよう来週を過ごしましょう。イエス・キリストの偉大な贖いを通して私たちの罪が赦されることを覚えていましょう。悔い改め、良くなろうとする日々の努力がやがて天の家に私たちを導いてくれることを忘れないようにしましょう。
