And now, if I have no authority for these things, judge ye; for ye shall know that I have authority when ye shall see me, and we shall stand before God at the last day. Ether 5:6
The 5th chapter of Ether is interesting. It contains some of Moroni’s comments on the Jaredite record. Most importantly, it contains instructions especially for the Prophet Joseph Smith.

For example, Moroni tells Joseph not to translate the sealed portion of the record. Moroni also tells him that three witnesses are to be chosen to view the plates and to testify about them.

Finally, Moroni gives all of us an important warning. He knows there will be people who will not accept his words. He knows that there will be people who will reject the gospel. He knows that there will be people who will not believe that he has any authority.

To these people, Moroni gives a very clear warning. This warning is to all of us as well.

Moroni warns all of us that we will all stand before God someday, to be judged of our works. Moroni, and all the other prophets, will be there on that judgement day. They will stand and testify of the things they taught.

There will be no question in anyone’s mind about whether or not Moroni had authority to give instructions. Everyone will know and understand that Moroni was a prophet of God. Everyone will know and understand that he did have authority to teach. Everyone will know and understand that his words were true.
モロナイが指示を与える権能があったか否かについてだれも疑うことはないでしょう。誰もがモロナイが神の預言者であったことを知っており理解しています。誰もが彼が教える権能を持っていたことを知っており理解しています。誰もが彼の言葉が真実だと知っており理解しています。
For many, that knowledge will come too late. For the wicked, the rebellious, the proud, those who rejected the things that Moroni taught, it will be too late.
その知識は多くの人にとって手遅れとなるかもしれません。邪悪な人や反抗的な人、高慢な人、モロナイの教えを拒絶した人には手遅れとなることでしょう。
They were given the opportunity to repent but they refused. They were given the opportunity to accept the gospel but they refused. They were given the opportunity to receive forgiveness of their sins through the great Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ, but they refused.

Are we sometimes like those people?

We have modern day prophets and apostles that teach us the word of the Lord. We are given instructions in General Conference. We are given instructions through our Stake and Ward leaders. We are given instructions in the scriptures.
私たちには主の言葉を教えてくれる現代の預言者や使徒がいます。私たちは総大会で教えを受け、私たちのワードやステークの指導者からも教えを受けます。聖句を通して私たちは教えを受けます。
Do we believe that those who teach us have authority?
私たちに教えを与える彼らには権能を授けられていることを知っていますか？
If we believe that they have authority, do we follow their counsel exactly? Do we do the things that they teach us? Do we recognize their authority to speak for the Lord?
彼らが権能を受けていることを信じていれば、あなたは彼らの勧告のままに従いますか？彼らが教えることを行いますか？主に代わって語るという彼らの権能を認めますか？
We have been given some new instructions recently. For example, we have been instructed to use the additional time we now have on the Sabbath to study the “Come, Follow Me” lessons, both as individuals and as families.
最近私たちは新らしい教えを受けています。例えば安息日に集会が短くなったことで生れた時間を個人や家族として「私に従ってきなさい」のレッスンを学ぶために使うよう指導を受けています。
Do we believe our leaders spoke with authority when they gave us that instruction? If we believe that, are we following their instructions?
私たちの指導者から教えを受ける時、彼らが権能を持って話すことを信じていますか？もしそう信じるならば彼らの指示に従っていますか？
Let’s prepare now for that great judgement day. Let’s follow the counsel that our leaders have given us, as they have been directed by the Lord. Let’s remember that the Lord’s prophets and apostles speak with authority and will teach us correct doctrine.
その大いなる裁きの日のために今、備えましょう。私たちの指導者が主から導かれて与える勧告に従いましょう。主の預言者や使徒が権能を持って話し、正しい教義を教えることを忘れないようにしましょう。
