まことに、あなたがたに言うが、彼らの大半がこのように行っている。　そして彼らは、残りの同胞にも真理を知らせようと熱心に勤勉に努めているので、日々彼らの仲間に加わる者が多い。ヒラマン書１５：６

Yea, I say unto you, that the more part of them are doing this, and they are striving with unwearied diligence that they might bring the remainder of their brethren to the knowledge of the truth; therefore there are many who do add to their numbers daily.  Helaman 15:6

In the 5th chapter of Helaman, the prophet Samuel, a Lamanite, continues his message to the Nephites.  At this point in the Nephite history, the Nephites have become wicked. It is now the Lamanites who are righteous.  Before, it was the Nephite missionaries who were preaching to the Lamanites. Now, the Lamanite missionaries are preaching to the Nephites.

ヒラマン書5章でレーマン人の預言者サムエルがニーファイ人に続けて教えています。ニーファイ人の歴史のこの時点でニーファイ人は邪悪な民になり、今や正しい民はレーマン人だけになっていました。以前はニーファイ人の宣教師がレーマン人に教えを述べていました。そして今、レーマン人の宣教師はニーファイ人に教えを説いています。

Samuel points out something very important.  He reminds the Nephites that his people, the Lamanites, have a long history of wickedness.  The Lamanites have rejected the gospel for many generations and have tried to kill all the Nephites and destroy the Church.

サムエルは何か非常に重要なことを指摘しています。彼は自分の民であるレーマン人は長い間邪悪であったことをニーファイの民に思い起こさせています。レーマン人は何世代にもわたり福音を拒絶しニーファイ人を殺し教会をつぶそうとしてきました。

But now, just five years before the birth of the Savior, it is the Nephites who have left the Church and become wicked.  The Lamanites, who were converted by the preaching of the Nephites, are still faithful and are now trying to help the Nephites.

しかし救い主の誕生の5年ほど前に、ニーファイ人は教会を離れ邪悪になっていました。一方レーマン人はニーファイ人の伝道を通して改宗し、未だに忠実であり、今はニーファイ人を助けようと努めていました。

One important thing that Samuel talks about is significant for us.  Samuel says that the Lamanites who have been converted are working hard to teach others about the gospel.  

サムエルの教えの中でひとつ私たちにとって重要なことがあります。サムエルは改宗したレーマン人が福音を教えるために熱心に働いていることを述べています。

Samuel says they are “striving with unwearied diligence” to teach others the gospel.

彼らは福音を教えるため「熱心に勤勉につとめている」とサムエルは述べています。

Like those Lamanites, we have been taught the gospel.  Like those Lamanites, we have a duty to share the gospel with others.  

レーマン人のように私たちも福音を教わっています。レーマン人のように私たちも他の人に福音を分かち合う義務を持っています。

Are we trying to share the gospel with others with “unwearied diligence”?  

私たちは「熱心に勤勉に」他の人に福音を分かち合うよう努めていますか？

Do we talk with friends, neighbors, or people at our work about our love for the gospel?  Do we share with others the positive things that the gospel has brought into our lives? Do we share the hope that the gospel brings to us in our trials and troubles?

友達や隣人、職場の人に私たちが感じている福音に対する愛について話しますか？他の人に私たちの人生に福音がもたらしてくれた良いこと事を分かち合いますか？私たちが試練や苦難に会うときに福音がもたらしてくれた希望を分かち合いますか？

Do our friends, neighbors, or people at our work even know that we are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

私たちの友人や、隣人、職場の人は私たちが末日聖徒イエス・キリストの会員であることを知っていますか？

Each of us needs to consider the example of those righteous Lamanites.  Think what a blessing it would be to our own wards if we too were “striving with unwearied diligence” to introduce others to the great Plan of Happiness.  Think of the lives that would be blessed by our sharing simple positive experiences that the gospel has brought into our lives.

私たちの誰もがこの正しいレーマン人の模範を考えてみる必要があります。私たちも大いなる幸福の計画を他の人に紹介するよう「熱心に勤勉に努める」ならば、ワードにとってどんな祝福となるか考えてください。福音が私たちの生活にもたらした良い経験を分かち合うことで生活がどのように祝福されるか考えてください。

It all starts with just being friendly.  As we become friends with others, opportunities to share a short experience, a positive experience, a “tender mercy” experience with others will happen.

すべては友達になることから始まります。誰かと友達になることで、簡単な経験やポジティブな経験、「豊かな深い憐れみ」の経験を誰かと分かち合う機会があるでしょう。

We don’t have to know all the answers.  We don’t have to be a ward missionary. We don’t have to be a full-time missionary.

すべての答えを知る必要はありません。ワード宣教師である必要はありません。専任宣教師である必要もありません。

We just need to be friendly.  

ただ友達になればよいのです。

As we go through this next week, take time to be friendly, to smile, to help someone.  Let’s do better at following the examples of the righteous Lamanites. If we cannot do this with “unwearied diligence”, maybe we can at least do it with a little bit of effort.  Let’s look for opportunities to be friendly, to share gospel experiences, to talk about the good things that the gospel brings to our lives.

来週を送る時、友達になり、ほほ笑み、誰かを助ける時間を取ってみましょう。正しいレーマン人の模範によりよく従いましょう。もし「熱心に勤勉に努める」ことが出来なくても、少しの努力をしてみることは出来るでしょう。友達になり福音の経験を分かち合い、福音が私たちの生活にもたらしてくれたよいものについて話す機会を探してみましょう。
