それゆえ、同胞よ、主に助言しようとしないで、主の手から助言を受けるようにしなさい。見よ、あなたがたは、主が、造られたすべてのものに知恵と公正と深い憐れみをもって助言を与えられることを知っているからである。ヤコブ書４：１０

Wherefore, brethren, seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take counsel from his hand.  For behold, ye yourselves know that he counseleth in wisdom, and in justice, and in great mercy, over all his works.  Jacob 4:10

In the fourth chapter of Jacob, Jacob explains that they searched the scriptures and believed in the prophecies about the coming of Jesus Christ many hundreds of years before his birth.  Jacob teaches the people about the how the Law of Moses helped them have faith in Christ. He also reminded the people that the Lord had created the world, and man, and everything that exists.

ヤコブ書4章ではヤコブは民に彼らが聖典を調べ、イエス・キリストの生誕の何百年も前に預言された降誕を信じるよう説明しています。ヤコブはモーセの律法がキリストへの信仰をどのように助けたか民に教えています。彼は主がこの世界と人間、その他にも存在するすべてのものを創造されたことを人々に思い起こさせています。

He then shares this scripture with us, which is a reminder to us of the vanity of the natural man.

更にこの聖句を私たちにも分かち合い、生まれながらの人のはかなさを思い起こさせています。

In this scripture, Jacob tells us that we should not try to tell the Lord what to do, but should listen to what the Lord wants us to do.

この聖句では、ヤコブは私たちが主に何かをしてくれと言うのではなく、主が私たちに何をして欲しいのか聞くべきだと述べています。

The natural man does just the opposite.  Many people in this world think that they know what should be done better than the Lord does.  They think they are smart. They think they are wise.

生まれながらの人はそのような間違いを犯します。この世の多くの人は主より自分の方がどうすべきかよく知っていると考えます。自分が頭がよく賢いと考えています。

Even members of the Church sometimes fall into this trap of Satan’s.  

教会の会員でさえ時折、サタンのこの罠に落ちています。

When the prophets and apostles give us counsel in General Conference, or when they teach us doctrine, or when they announce a change, do we follow the counsel we have been given?  

預言者や使徒が総大会で勧告を私たちに与えられる時や教義を教えられる時、変更を発表される時にあなたは与えられた勧告に従いますか？

When the bishop gives us a new assignment to serve in the Lord’s kingdom, do we follow the counsel of the Lord?

ビショップが主の王国で奉仕する新しいアサイメント与える時、主の勧告に従いますか？

When we are told to study The Book of Mormon every day, do we follow the counsel of the Lord?

毎日モルモン書を学ぶように言われる時、主の勧告に従いますか？

When we are told to attend all of our Sunday meetings, do we follow the counsel of the Lord?

日曜日のすべての集会に出席するよう言われる時、主の勧告に従いますか？

When we are told to hold Family Study Time on Sunday, do we follow the counsel of the Lord?

日曜日に家族の時間を持つように言われる時、主の勧告に従いますか？

Or do we “seek to counsel the Lord”?

それとも「主に助言しよう」としますか？

It almost seems funny that we should ever try to counsel the Lord.  It is like a small child trying to tell his parents what to do. The child may be right, based on his limited experience in life, but his parents have much more experience and wisdom than does the child.  Just because medicine tastes bad, the child doesn’t want to take it. But the mother knows that, even though it does not taste good, there will be a good result for the child if he takes the medicine.

主に助言しようとすることなど考えるととてもこっけいに思えます。丁度小さな子供が親に向かってあしろこうしろと言うようなものです。その子供の意見は正しい事もあるかもしれません、でも両親の方が子供よりより多くの経験と知恵を持っています。薬が不味いというだけで子供はその薬を飲みたがりません。しかし母親はそれが不味くてもそれを飲めば良い結果になることを分かっています。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember to follow the counsel of the Lord as given to us by his appointed leaders.  We are never expected to follow counsel blindly. We each have the responsibility to ponder, to study, and then to pray about the counsel that we receive.  We each have the duty to find out for ourselves, through earnest prayer, whether or not counsel is from the Lord.  

来週は主が召された指導者が与える主の勧告に従うことを覚えて過ごしましょう。盲目的に勧告に従うようには決して望まれていません。私たちは熟考し、学び、受けた勧告について祈るつとめがあります。私たちはその勧告が主からのものか真剣な祈りを通して自分自身で知る義務があります。

Let’s do better at following the counsel of the Lord.  Let’s remember that the Lord knows each of us and knows what “medicine” will be best for each of us. 

よりいっそう、主の勧告に従いましょう。主は私たち一人一人をご存知であり、どの「薬」が最良なのかご存知であることを忘れないようにしましょう。
