しかし、あなたがたは主の御前にへりくだり、主の聖なる御名を呼び、自分が耐えられないような誘惑を受けないように、目を覚ましていて絶えず祈りなさい。そのようにして、聖なる御霊の導きを得て、謙遜、柔和、従順になり、忍耐強くなり、愛に富み、限りなく寛容になって、さらに主を信じる信仰を持ち、永遠の命を得る希望を抱き、常に心の中に神の愛を持って、終わりの日に上げられて神の安息に入れるようにしなさい。アルマ１３：２８－２９

But that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear, and thus be lead by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering; having faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest.  Alma 13:28-29

In this scripture, Alma and Amulek are teaching the people in Ammonihah.  The people in Ammonihah were wicked people.  Alma and Amulek were teaching them the simple truths of the gospel.

これはアルマとアミュレクがアモナイハの民に教えている聖句です。アモナイハの民は邪悪な民でした。アルマとアミュレクは福音の簡単な真理を彼らに教えていました。

At the end of his message, Alma tells the people what they need to do.  This scripture is a good guide for us too.  It is short and simple, but has great counsel.

アルマはメッセージの最後で彼らが何をすべきか民に教えました。この聖句は私たちにとっても良い教え導きとなります。短く簡単ですが素晴らしい教えです。

Alma teaches us that the most important thing we need to do is to be humble.  Without humility, we cannot learn about Jesus Christ.  Without humility, we cannot repent.  Without humility, we cannot receive blessings.

アルマは私たちがすべき最も重要なことは謙遜になることだと教えました。。謙虚さ無しに私たちはイエスキリストについて学ぶことはできません。謙虚さ無しに私たちは悔い改めることはできませんし、祝福を受けることもできません。

Once we are humble, then we need to take action.  We need to call upon the Lord.  We need to pray continually.  

一旦謙遜になったら次に行動をしなければなりません。主を呼び求めなければなりません。祈り続けなければなりません。

Why?

なぜでょうか？

Alma teaches us that if we are humble and pray continually, we will be “lead by the Holy Spirit”.  We will not be tempted above that which we can bear.  We will be able to progress and grow.

アルマは私たちが謙遜で祈り続けるならば「聖なる御霊の導きを受ける」と教えました。また私たちは耐えられない誘惑に会うことはないでしょうし、私たちは進歩し成長することができるでしょう。

We will grow in many important characteristics.  Alma says we will “become humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering”.  These are all important qualities that a follower of Jesus Christ needs to develop.  

私たちは多くの大切な特質を見につけ成長します．アルマは私たちは「謙遜、柔和、従順になり、忍耐強くなり、愛に富み、限りなく寛容になる」と言っています。これらはキリストに従う者が培うべき重要な性質なのです。

As we develop these qualities, we become more like our Savior.  As we develop these qualities, we become better people.  As we develop these qualities, we increase our faith.

これらの性質を培うとき、私たちは救い主のようになるのです。これらの性質を培うとき、私たちはより良いものになるのです。またこれらの性質を培うとき、私たちは信仰を増すのです。

As we do these things,  we are promised that we will have greater faith.  We will have greater hope for eternal life.  We will have greater love for God.

これらのことを行うとき、私たちはより大きな信仰を持てると約束されています。私たちは永遠の生命へのより大きな希望を持つのです。私たちは神へのより大きな愛を持つのです。

Most importantly, as we do these things, we will “be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest”.  This is the greatest blessing of all.

最も大切なのはこれらのことを行うならば、私たちは「終わりの日に上げられて神の安息に入る」ということです。これがすべての祝福の中で最もすばらしい祝福です。

As we come to the end of another year, this is a good time to think about our own progress.  How did we do this year?  Did we make progress?  Did we improve ourselves?

また一年の終わりが来ようとする今、私たちは自身の進歩について考えてみることはよいことです。今年の自分はどうだったのだろう？前進したのだろうか？自分自身が進歩したのだろうか？

In a few days, we will have a new year.  May we work hard in the new year to improve ourselves.  May we be more humble.  May we be better followers of Jesus Christ.  May we have greater faith.  May we all “be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest”.

後わずかで新しい年がやってきます。新しい年も自分自身が進歩できるよう頑張りましょう。より謙遜になれますように。イエス・キリストのより良い従者となれますように。より強い信仰を持てますように。私たち全員「終わりの日に上げられて神の安息に入れ」ますように。
