あなたは謙遜でありなさい。そうすれば、主なるあなたの神は手を引いてあなたを導き、あなたの祈りに答えを与えるであろう。教義と聖約１１２：１０

Be thou humble; and the Lord thy God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers.  Doctrine & Covenants 112:10

This revelation was given through the Prophet Joseph Smith to Thomas B. Marsh.  Thomas Marsh was the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.  In this revelation, the Lord gave instructions and counsel to Thomas.

この啓示は預言者ジョセフ・スミスを通してトーマス・B・マーシュに与えられたものです。トーマス・マーシュは十二使徒定員会の会長でした。この啓示で主はトーマスに指示と教え、助言、忠告を与えました。

We can learn from these instructions, too.

私たちもその教えから学ぶことが出来ます。

In this scripture, the Lord teaches us about the importance of humility.  

この聖典では主が謙遜の重要性について教えておられます。

Humility is a character quality that the world does not respect.  The world thinks humble people are weak.  The world thinks humble people are not important.  The world thinks humble people are foolish.

謙遜は世の人々が尊敬する性質、資質ではありません。世の人々は謙遜な人は弱いと考えています。世の人々は謙遜な人は有力な人間ではないと考えています。世の人々は謙遜な人はおろかだと考えています。

But the Lord knows that humility is a very important character quality.  

しかし主は謙遜はとても重要な性質、資質であることをご存知です。

King Benjamin taught us that the “natural man is an enemy to God”.   Just as in this scripture, he taught us that humility is important.  He taught us that we must become humble like a child.  (Mosiah 3:19).

ベニヤミン王は「生まれながらの人は神の敵である」と教えています。この聖句にあるように彼は謙遜は重要であり、私たちは子供のように謙遜にならなければならないと教えています。（モーサヤ3:19）

Humility is a difficult character quality to learn.  As “natural men”, we want to be important.  We want to make all the decisions.  We want to do things our own way.

謙遜は身に着けるには難しい特質です。「生まれながらの人」としての私たちは重要な人になりたいと望んでいます。私たちはすべての決断をしたいと望んでおり、自分の方法でことをなしたいと思っています。

But if we want to receive the blessings from the Lord that we need, we must learn to be humble.  

しかし主から私たちに必要な祝福を受けたいのなら、謙遜になることを学ばねばなりません。

In this scripture, the Lord tells us about two important blessings we will receive if we are humble.

この聖句では私たちが謙遜であれば受けられる二つの大切な祝福について主は教えておられます。

If we are humble, we are promised that the Lord will “lead us by the hand”.  

謙遜ならば私たちは主が「手を引いて導いて」くださると約束されています。

A small child is led by the hand by their parent.  This keeps them safe.  This keeps them from danger.  This helps them stay on the right path.  We will be kept safe and on the right path if we are humble.

小さな子供は両親に手を引いて導かれます。そうして子供たちは守られます。危険から守られるのです。そうして子供たちを正しい道に留めてくれます。

Even more importantly, the Lord promises us that if we are humble, he will give us answers to our prayers.  

さらにもっと大切なことは、もし私たちが謙遜ならばお祈りに答えてくださると主は約束してくださいました。

Sometimes, when we are praying about something important, it seems like no answer comes.  This is not because the Lord does not hear our prayer.  It is not because the Lord does not want to answer our prayer.  It is not because the Lord does not love us.

私たちは何か大切なことについてお祈りしているとき、何も答えられないと感じるときがあります。それは主が私たちの祈りを聞かれないからではありません。主が私たちの祈りに答えたくないからでも、主が私たちを愛しておられないからでもありません。

There are experiences in this life that we need to have so we can grow.  Those experiences are difficult.  It is sometimes hard for us to learn the lessons of this life.  If the answer to a prayer comes too soon, we will not have enough time to learn the lessons we need to learn.

この世では私たちが成長できるよう必要な経験があります。それらの経験は難しいものです。この世のレッスンを学ぶのは時折難しいものです。もしお祈りの答えがすぐにやってくると私たちは学ぶべきレッスンを学ぶ十分な時間がありません。

But, if we are humble, the Lord has promised us that the answer to our prayer will be given to us.  That answer will come.  There is no doubt about that.  It will come when the time is right.  It will come when the Lord feels we are ready.  It will come after we learn to be humble.

しかし、もし謙遜ならば主は祈りの答えをくださると約束してくださいました。答えは来ます。それは間違いありません。（神から見て正しい）時がくればやってきます。私たちが準備できていると主が感じられるときにやってきます。私たちが謙遜であることを学んだときにやってきます。

May we work hard this week to be more humble.  May we learn about the great blessings that will come as we are humble.  

今週ももっと謙遜でいられるよう頑張りましょう。謙遜であるときにやってくる偉大な祝福を知ることが出来ますように。

I know that we can overcome the “natural man”.  I know that we can be humble.  I know that by being more humble, the Lord will be able to give us greater blessings.  I know that these things are true.

私たちは「生まれながらの人」を克服できると知っています。私たちは謙遜になれると知っています。更に謙遜になることで主はもっとすばらしい祝福を私たちにくださると知っています。これらの事が真実だと知っています。
