そこで主は、わたしに言われた。「わたしがこれから示す方法に従って、一隻の船を造りなさい。この大海を越えて、わたしがあなたの民を連れて行けるようにするためである。」それでわたしは、『主よ、お示しくださった方法に従って船を造るための道具を造るには、どこへ行ってあらがねを見つけたらよろしいでしょうか』といった。ニーファイ第―書１７：８－９

And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto me, saying: Thou shalt construct a ship, after the manner which I shall show thee, that I may carry thy people across these waters.  And I said: Lord, whither shall I go that I may find ore to molten, that I may make tools to construct the ship after the manner which thou hast shown unto me?  1 Nephi 17:8-9

In this scripture, Nephi gives us a great example of following the commandments of the Lord.  Nephi and his family had traveled for 8 years in the wilderness.  They came to a place called Bountiful that was by the ocean.

この聖句ではニーファイが主の戒めに従うことについてすばらしい模範を私たちに示しています。ニーファイとその家族は８年間荒れ野を旅し、海の近くにあるバウンテフルとよばれる土地にやってきました。

As Nephi was praying, the Lord told him to go to up to a mountain.  When Nephi went to the mountain, he prayed.  While he was praying, the Lord gave him an important assignment.  The Lord told Nephi to build a ship.

ニーファイが祈った時、主は山に行くように言われました。ニーファイは山に行き、祈りました。祈っている時、主は大切な課題を与えられました。主はニーファイに船を造るように言われました。

I am sure that Nephi was surprised.  He had never built a ship before.  He did not know how to build a ship.  He had no tools.  He had no lumber.  He had no supplies.

ニーファイは驚いたに違いありません。彼は今までに船など造ったことなどありませんでした。彼は船の造り方など知りませんでした。道具もありませんし材木もありません。他にも必要なものは何もありませんでした。

Nephi could have said: “Lord, I don’t know how to build a ship”.  He could have said: “Lord, that is impossible”.  He could have said: “Lord, I can’t do that.  I don’t have any tools and I don’t have any wood”.

ニーファイはこのように言うことも出来たはずです、「主よ、私は船の造り方など知りません」と。またこのようにも言えたはずです、「主よ、それは不可能です」とか「主よ、そんなことはできません、私は道具も木材も持っていません」と。

But Nephi had faith that he could do whatever the Lord commanded him to do.  He did not complain.  He did not argue.  He did not doubt.

しかしニーファイは主がするよう命じられたことは何でも出来るという信仰がありました。彼は文句を言いませんでしたし、口論もしませんでした。彼は疑いませんでした。

He knew he needed tools to make a ship.  That was the first important task.  To make tools, he needed to have ore.  So having faith, he asked the Lord where he should go to find ore.  

彼は船を造るには道具が要ることを知っていました。それは最初の重要な仕事でした。道具を作るには鉱石を手に入れる必要がありました。それで信仰を持って主にどこに行けば鉱石を見つけれるか尋ねました。

After he had ore, he could make tools.  After he had tools, he could cut down trees to make lumber.  After he had lumber, he could start building a ship.

鉱石を手に入れた後、彼は道具を作りました。道具を手に入れた後、彼は材木を作る木を切り倒しました。材木を手に入れた後、彼は船を造り始めました。

This is a great example of faith.  

これは信仰の偉大な模範です。

Many times in our own lives, the Lord gives us assignments.  

私たちの人生でも何度も主は私たちに課題を与えられます。

None of us have ever been asked to build a ship.  We may be asked to teach a class.  We may be asked to be a home teacher or a visiting teacher.  We may be asked to be a Primary President, a Young Women’s President, or an Elder’s Quorum President.

私たちの誰も船を造るようなことは頼まれたことがないでしょう’。私たちはクラスで教えるよう頼まれるかもしれません。ホームティーチャーや家庭訪問教師になるように頼まれるかもしれません。初等教会の会長や、若い女性の会長、長老定員会の会長になるよう頼まれるかもしれません。

Just like Nephi, we are surprised when these assignments come.  

丁度ニーファイのように、私たちはそれらの課題、任務が来ると驚きます。

When an assignment comes from the Lord, we need to follow the example of Nephi.  We need to go forward with faith.  We need to trust in the Lord.  We need to take action to complete the assignment.  We need to ask the Lord guide us. 

主からの任務が来るとき、私たちはニーファイの模範に従う必要があります。信仰を持って前進しなければなりません。主を信頼しなければなりません。私たちは任務を完遂する必要があります。私たちは主に導いていただくよう頼まなければなりません。

I know that if we do these things, we will receive all the promised blessings.  I know that it requires faith to go forward with a difficult assignment.  But, I know that the Lord will show us where we “may find ore” so we can be successful.  I know that the Lord will never give us an assignment that we cannot complete, with his help.

これらのことをすれば私たちは約束されたすべての祝福を享受できると知っています。困難な任務をなすには信仰が必要だと知っています。しかし、主は私たちが成功できるよう、どこに行けば「鉱石を見つける」ことが出来るか示してくださることも知っています。主は完遂できないような任務（主の助けをもって）は私たちにくださらないと知っています。

Let’s all try to follow the example of Nephi this week.  With the Lord’s help, we can all “construct a ship” and do whatever the Lord requires of us. 

今週もニーファイの模範に従うよう努力しましょう。主の助けがあれば私たちは皆「船を造る」ことや主が要求されることは何でもできるのです。
