And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father. Doctrine & Covenants 18:15
This verse, which was given to the Prophet Joseph Smith by the Lord in a revelation, is usually used when we talk about missionary work. However, it applies to all of us as we serve in the Church.
この節は主が預言者ジョセフスミスに啓示を通して与えられたもので通常、宣教師の働きについて話すときに引用されます。しかし教会で奉仕する私たちすべてにも当てはまるものです。
This scripture is very short and very clear. It teaches us about our duties. It teaches us about our responsibilities. It teaches us about our rewards.
この聖句は非常に短くかつ明瞭で、私たちの義務、私たちの責任、私たちの受ける報いについて教えています。
What is the most important word in this revelation?
この啓示でもっとも大切な言葉は何でしょう？
Many important words could be chosen. “Labor”, “all your days”, “crying repentance”, “one soul”, “joy”. These are all important words.
沢山大切な言葉が選べるでしょう。「力を尽くす」「生涯」「悔い改めを叫ぶ」「（たとえ）一人でも」「喜び」。これらはすべては大切な言葉です。
Perhaps the most significant word, though, is “with”.
しかし、おそらくもっとも意義深い言葉は「ともに」でしょう。
All the other words relate to things that we need to do or that we will receive.
他のすべての言葉は私たちがすべきこととか享受することに関わることです。
The word “with” is significant because it teaches us why we will have such great joy.
「ともに」という言葉が意義深いのは、私たちが何故そのような偉大な祝福を受けるのかを教えているからです。
We will not have joy just by ourselves. We will not have joy all alone. We will have joy with all those whom we have served.
私たちは自分だけでは喜びを得ることはできませんし、一人だけでは喜びを得ることはできません。私たちは仕えた人々と、ともに喜びを得るのです。
We have all had callings and assignments in the Church. We have worked with many people in those callings and assignments. Some of those callings may have been as a missionary, teaching others about the gospel. Some of those callings may have been in a ward assignment, teaching a class or visiting members in their homes.
私たちには皆、教会での召しや責任があります。それらの召しや責任の中で多くの人と共に働いてきました。いくつかの召しは宣教師であったり福音を他の誰かに教えることだったかもしれません。またワードの責任やクラスを教えたり会員のお宅を訪問するといったことだったかもしれません。
In all these assignments, the greatest happiness we have had has been when we have been able to help someone else gain a testimony of Jesus Christ and his gospel.
それらの責任の中でもっとも幸福を感じたのは他の誰かにイエスキリストと福音への証を強めさせる手助けが出来たときです。
Over time, as we are released as a missionary, or as wards and stakes are divided, we sometimes no longer have an opportunity to serve those same people.
時間が経てば、いつかは宣教師から解任されワードやステークが分割され同じ人々に仕える機会はなくなります。
In this scripture, the great promise is that we will be able to have “joy with him”. We will be able to serve together with them again. We will be able to feel that great love again.
この聖句の偉大な約束は「主と共に喜ぶ」ことができるということです。主と共に働けるということです。その偉大な愛を再びまた感じることが出来るのです。
This is the great promise of the gospel. We have the opportunity to have great joy, not just in this life, but for eternity. We have the opportunity to have great joy with others, not just for a short time in this life, but with them for eternity.
これは福音の偉大な約束です。私たちはおおきな喜びをこの世だけでなく永遠に得る機会を持っているのです。他の誰かとともに偉大な喜びを短い期間だけではなく永遠に得る機会を持っています。
I know that these things are true. I know that we will be greatly blessed as we serve, not just in this life but in the life to come. I know that we have struggles and difficulties in this life, but the rewards that are promised to us are wonderful.
私はこれらが真実だと知っています。私たちが奉仕するとき多くの祝福をこの世のみならず、来る世でも享受できると知っています。この人生では苦闘や困難がありますが、すばらしい報いも約束されていることを知っています。
May we do our best to serve others, in whatever calling or assignment we have. May we go forward with faith in Jesus Christ. May we go forward remembering the great blessings that will come if we faithfully serve “all our days”.
私たちの召しや責任が何であろうと、最善を尽くして他の誰かのために働きましょう。イエスキリストへの信仰をもって前進しましょう。「生涯」を通して忠実に尽くすとき与えられる偉大な祝福を覚えて前進しましょう。
